Model of guitar or bass: 1965 Fender Malibu acoustis/1972 Fender Stratocaster. Position: neck Pickup being replaced: not a replacement Other pickups on guitar: Stock Stratocaster Artists using this pickup: Hendrix and many more from the 60's & 70's You musical style(s): Rock, blues, jazz, fusion. Reason for pickup change: My Stratocaster did not have the sustain that I wanted. After a long search I found a Hot Dot and screwed it to the bottom of the neck under the pick guard. It provided fabulous sustain and stayed clean. It was a perfect inhancement. I also used it on my Fender Malibu which is an acoustic flat top with a telecaster bolt on neck. Screwed to the end of the neck it sounded just like my strat. On the bridge it sounded much more acoustic. Moving it to other locations provided several sounds. All of which were supurb.
Sound
:No Opinion
Perceived output level: As it is called a Hot Dot. That is exactly what it is. It is a small dot shaped transducer that is REALLY HOT!! It does need a pre-amp. Barcus made the best one for it. Tone: It can provide any sound you want from long, clear, electric sustain to well ballanced acoustic depending on where it is installed on the guitar.t is Sonic evaluation: I used the Hot Dot with the corresponding pre-amp into a studio setup most of the time. In live proformances I used a Marshall 45 and a fender dual reverb. Sometimes I went direct to a PA.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This is the Hendrix sound that people covet. I don't think it is available any longer. It picked up the vibrations from the wood grain in the neck and amplified them. Worked well in the bridge position too but sounded more acoustic.

Nothing compares with it.
