Singlecoils for strat, supposed to give the from mid sixties to early seventies strat sound. I am surprised not a lot of manufacturers do this pickup since it is a great member of the strat family. Tommy Bolin, Gilmour, Hendrix, Mayfield and Edie Hazel liked it's flavour.

My black '82 Dan Smith came with Hausells, a german boutique thingy. Like most of those boutiques, they are good strong pickups with to much mussels and miss the point of less is more. I had some '83 pickups lying around -minus the x-1 bridge the same pups- that I put in. That gave me a sweet poppy Fender sound, very Kula Shaker. But I am a big fan of that britisch delicate oomph and already having the Duncan Surfers (that ate the CS '69 alive and the Kinmann Woodstocks don't even try to sound like a late sixties pickup) I orderd these Chubtones.

Well, at last someone who knows what he is talking about. It's like the '83 pickups got on some weight but all in the right places. Sparkle & Chime all over the place. The best thing is, the high strings still sound clear but not thin because of the scooped thing.
My favorite Duncan Antiquity surfers had a Antiquity Texas hot in the bridge because that alnico 2 solves a lot of problems there but these Chubtone '69's are wonderfull in all positions.

Funny thing about the boutique thing is, it all started when the late seventies strat couldn't deliver an early sixties sound but I think all has it's place. Hell, I even love the grey late seventies bobbins for that matter. These Chubtones never try to overpower the competition but just do a good Fender and add a little more signature in the process. Very dynamic, not sterile
but euh.. chubby. But hey, this guy always like that sweet girl next door better than any supermodel.
