Features

New WaveLength Dual Source .. which add's secondary mic to standard Wavelength UST pickup
Instrument
:
Yamaha Acoustic.
Replaced existing system which was very poor ..
Install was very easy ..
Only complaint/sugestion is if they could figure out a way to make the Mic with some sort of adjustment for postioning with a neck like K&K or Baggs which lets you place it where ever. but really its fine , just would have liked to try it at different spots

1) No quacking , very smooth response . Tone was a bit bassy as it comes from factory +3db on Bass .. I fixed onboard pre amp to Flat and fixed it..
Very warm .
With most pickup systems you have to do allot of fixing signal via the EQ's .. This I pretty much leave flat even at the board and sound is very even.
Only feed back issue I had was with mic at 100%... and thats with PA going full blast ..

This is my go too UST pickup .
Mic add's just enough air so sound is not totally that "pickup" sound .. it does make a difference.
This thru a Mamabear and a good tube PreAmp is pretty close to sounding like a Mic'ed Guitar as you'll get on stage at volume.

The Dtar is an undder the saddel pickup with an active 18 volt inboard preamp.

The Dtar was fairly simple to install. I did it myself and it took me about two hours...mainly because I was drilling holes in my guitar...something I don't do all that often. The instillation instructions included contained a lot of detail and were helpful. If you have installed a pezo before then it should not be a problem. If you aren't comfortable with tools then by all means pay some one!

The out put level on this thing is amazing! Instead of the conventional 9 volt preamp that is found in other active systems the Dtar has an 18 volt preamp...thats more then double the power of a typical system. The result is clear tone with no distortion. You can strum as hard as you like...you could hit the strings with a sledge hammer and it still would not distort.
When I first installed it I was getting some low end clipping every time I palmed the bridge. The preamp is equipped with a bass and treble pot. I lowered the bass pot and it went away.
The actual sound quality is amazing. It sounds so good that I am selling my other Alvarez with a factory preamp in it because I will probably never use it on stage again.
I still suggest a preamp for the reason that after market pickups of any brand are not tuned to the guitar that you put them it. A good preamp really helps to provide the source with a bit of shape.

Great pick up... its comparable to Baggs but with much more power and top end clarity and definitely better then anything put out by fishmen.

This is an active UST pickup. It runs on an 18v preamp powered by 2 AA batteries rather than 1 9volt like most UST's. This gives you a higher headroom so your heavy strumming doesn't distort and "get quacky" like some other UST's. It has an endpin jack preamp with a bass and treble boost.

Professionally installed in my Larrivee D-05, Mahogany. I tried a Baggs M1, and it was okay, but the cord kept coming loose from the pickup. Ultimately, it didn't sound as great as I thought it would based on all of the reviews and hype I had read, and I didn't really want to permanently mound something in the soundhole. Plus, it was a little goofy looking, non-technicaly speaking, to mount it there.

The sound is incredible. Plenty of output. I lead worship in church settings, and also do some home recording through my computer. Ultimately, I wanted to go with something that would reflect the natural sound of my guitar better, but didn't want to mess with something that was a mixed system of a mic and ust or a soundboard transducer and a ust due to the potential for feedback, so I decided to just try this alone based on reviews and feedback on dtar.com. The sound is perfect. Of course, it doesn't sound exactly like my acoustic unplugged, but it has a very full, warm sound. I boosted the bass on the preamp just a little, and it's perfect. I have a Fishman Pro EQ Platinum, and a Sans amp direct box. I've tried this pickup through both of them, but they actually make the sound worse. The guitar sounds best plugged straight into the sound system through a direct box. I did, however, just order a DTAR Equinox Equalizer/preamp, to see if that adds another level to the tone or not.

I don't know how it would get destroyed or lost, unless my guitar was lost with it. If that happened, though, I'd instantly replace both. I've been playing in church for around 10yrs, and this is the best tone I've heard in a long time. A professional preamp would help even more. The only thing I don't like is that you have to remove the preamp and reach into the guitar to adjust the tone. But once you get it set, you leave it alone anyway. I compared it to a bunch of other systems. I almost went with a Baggs Element, as that also sounds great from what I've heard, but I definitely made the right choice. It was a great price too on Shorelinemusic.com. Don't get conned into paying too much somewhere else.

This is an active UST (Under Saddle Transducer) with a thin woven metal coating surrounding the active element. 18v onboard preamp with bass and treble adj. Uses two AA batteries.

Installed in a Collings D1A (Adi/mahogany dread). Minimal mod to drill hole for UST and install battery pack on neck block. Replaced a K&K mini as an experiment. (LOVE THE K&K!) Made this change as an experiment to test the Wavelength and compare it to K&K. I wanted a pickup option that sounded good and would handle REALLY loud situations where the K&K might have problems.

Output is unbelievable. Very strong, but not distorted in any way. I run through a Boss AD-8, and add a K&K Pure preamp if I'm playing any of my K&K equipped guitars. Tone varies with string guage. With light strings tone is VERY Balanced and amazingly natural for a UST. With mediums, the tone gets a bit bass heave an less natural. Still pretty good for a UST, however. I play with thumbpick and bare fingers. Folk, Blues, country blues, gospel, ragtime, roots, and rock. This pickup works well with all styles. The dynamic range of the Wavelength is unrivaled in USTs.

Would I replace if stolen? Not sure. Maybe. I understand the Wavelength can be made to sound much better with the D-Tar Mama Bear modeling preamp. At $350 it's not on my immediate list. Without the Mama Bear it still sounds better than any UST I've ever heard. The K&K mini sounds more natrual and is still my favorite, but the Wavelength is a great option for LOUD playing situations.
