Features
:
West Coast Series La Jolla Passive Single coil soundhole P.U. & under saddle Barstow Combo.
Instrument
:
Baby Taylor & 1970 alvereze yari 12 string. No mods were required on the yari bur P.U was too big for the Taylor. Needed min filling to fit sound hole & brackets re moved from the single coil. I wanted to amplify for Junyor recording and playing out.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Out put level is great, but I wish I would have spent the extra for the volume knob type.I'm using a fender acoustic 2-10 , My Yari is a little too bassy for it but the Baby Taylor Sounds great!I play eagles ,Orig., Michel Branch ect... It was a cheep way to amplify. You can adjust the poles but you better oil them first.

If it were stolen I would spend the extra to up grade to the triology with volume control. Ive been playing for about 10 years and just starting to get into acoustic playing due to wife & brat?"% Ahhh!!! Kid I own a Martin GTE-16 LOVE IT NO PROB WITH SOUND THERE but too much invested to risk playing out ( THEIFS) Martin E-28 1980 Electric solid Mahognay Plays great I'll never let it go. I use a Marshell GUVNOR 1980 & a fender hot rod 2-12 (won't use fenders dist Blaa) Sorry got carried away ,I compared the Taho to the seymor Duncan Maveric Didn't like it, A Fishman Single Coil (used & Abused) I returned it(not fishmans fault) and a vintage Japan made single coil (sold it to the first taker)this P.U. blew them away.By the By I got this P.U. for well under $100.00 on sale at a guitar store and not a prob with it.

You musical style(s): Fingerstyle, SInger/songwriter
Reason for pickup change: I was getting feedback with the K&K trinity system. Just didn't cut through as well as the trilogy
Sound
:

Perceived output level: Out put is very crisp, usually don't have to use much gain at the board
Tone: excellent sounding, is very close to whatever guitar it's in
Sonic evaluation: It is outstanding, very simply put it does what it's supposed to. allows amplification of your fine guitar at concert levels, retaining the character of the instrument and allowing you the NO FEEDBACK delivery. I use this in conjunction with a full blown p.a and also with a powered speaker for smaller functions
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play fingerstyle, also do singer/songwriter as well as experimental music.

Comments: I would hate for it to be stolen, it's wonderful does everything you want it to and with the 3 sources you can dial in a myriad of tone.

Pickup features: Three-pickup blender
Impedence or other specs:
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Inexpensive Taylor copy
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Cheap piezo pickup
Other pickups on guitar: None
Artists using this pickup: No idea
You musical style(s): Various
Reason for pickup change: The piezo pickup wasn't picking up the more percussive elements of my playing.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level:
Tone: A little treble-shy all round
Sonic evaluation: The different pickups all give a slightly different quality to the sound. The piezo alone sounds better (more even and closer to the acoustic sound) than the cheap piezo that it replaced, and the magnetic pickup has an electric-like evenness to it as well. The mic pickup does exactly what I need as far as percussiveness goes, and it didn't take me long to dial in a sound that I was happy with, that would reproduce all the silly stuff I do to my guitar.
The one other thing I've found is that the pickup is a little dark sounding, even with the piezo (the brightest of the three pickups) soloed. I run the pickup into a Boss GT3 for a bit of delay and reverb, so I have simply used the onboard EQ to compensate and I am very happy with the sound now.

Comments: My regular gigging acoustic is an inexpensive Korean-made copy of a Taylor 312ce, with a cheap piezo pickup and a no-name onboard preamp with 4 band EQ. I decided to look for another pickup system, firstly because the piezo was starting to give crackling noises whenever i accidentally hit the saddle, and also because it wasn't doing a good job of picking up percussive sounds (taps on the top, slapping the strings etc) anyway.
I also didn't want to spend too much money since the guitar, while great value and a good instrument, isn't worth that much and I didn't want the cost of the pickup to be disproportionate as I would like to upgrade in future.
Decided to go for the Trilogy, it was VERY easy to install and took me all of half an hour including taking off the strings and removing the old piezo pickup.
It is very easy to use - four thumbwheels for piezo and mag pickups on the left, and mic and master on the right (this pickup will work for left handed guitars too, if you adjust the pole pieces).
The mic does make the guitar more prone to feedback, so I cut up the soft plastic lid from an old snack tin and fit it around the pickup to shield the mic from monitoring, and it works great.
Because the pickup clamps onto the top, you do lose some of the natural acoustic resonance of your guitar (and it is noticeable when playing unplugged), but virtually all my playing is plugged-in, so it wasn't an issue for me and a small price to pay for the improvement in the amplified sound.
It would be nice if it had some kind of EQ adjustment, but it's easy enough to do offboard and the design is so neat and effective as it is that it would probably simply spoil it.
Overall I'm delighted with how good it sounds, especially for the money (the Seymour Duncan Mag Mic for example is much more expensive). I don't think I will be trying other pickups in this guitar, but if i do upgrade to a better instrument I will have a look at what else is available.
