Perceived output level: Output level was unbalanced but adequate.
Tone: Again, the tone was unbalanced creating a muddy jazz like tone.
Sonic evaluation: Installed the pickup in my Guild D-30 and connected straight to my board. I also hooked into my Fender Vibro-King. This pickup seemed to take a nice full sparkly acoustic guitar tone and turn it into a horrible muddy bad-jazz trip tone. It exploded the mid tones in the guitar and completely supressed/erased the highs and lows.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Does one want to amplify a natural guitar tone or rather just get an amplified signal whatever its characteristics? The latter works.

Comments: I'm returning mine tomorrow. I've been playing 10 years solid although I first started at 7 years old. I mostly play electric but do enjoy the natural sound of a nice bassy acoustic (aside from Ovation). My recommendation is to avoid this pickup if you are a picky listener. I will continue to mic my acoustic with even an SM-57 if not a condensor mic.

Comments: OK...this is an update to the first one of mine...
After a while owning this thing...I've come up with new conclusions....
first-unlike many piezo pickups, the guitar you play really matters. If your playing a new Santa Cruz or Martin or something, chances are, you'll be able to score a nice sound. Play one of those high-action sears things, and you'll smash your guitar on the spot.
Second, the amp or PA also matters a lot. If you plug into a P.A. straight or with a direct box, make sure that it has a lot of gain because the pickup is weaker (not-active) and that your board has good eq. Second, you will be able to make an accustic sound huge if you have some nice speakers that won't make the bass get mushy.
Third, get an EQ. Preferably an active EQ, and it will help it 90%.
Fourth, after reading all this, do you really still want it? A. Maybe, but make sure that you satisfy the first three (or at least two) specifications above. If you do, this may be a quick and easy fix for those who are going the cheapo-magnetic sound-hole way.

Perceived output level: Not to hot
Tone: Not to bad, try it first, can adjust the poles to balance the tone. I would like an eq though
Sonic evaluation: I am using a variety of acoustic guitars with this pickup along with
a lot of amps and sound systems. It works well with an eq through
PA's and quite well through most amps. Some amps make it all wierd
though, especialy ones made for electric guitar.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: All, it is suitable

Comments: I might but it again, but probably a piezo. I am satisfied because
am not very discerning about my accoustic. The guitars are sometimes
to blame as well.
