Model of guitar or bass: '86 Regal resonator, "spider style" bridge.
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: none
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: none that I know of
You musical style(s): delta blues
Reason for pickup change: looking for low cost alternative to the expensive "brand name" piezo resonator p/ups.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: medium to hot, even without a preamp.
Tone: good resonator reproduction
Sonic evaluation: Used an outboard pre amp to buffer the pick up and scoop a little low mids from it, directly into an Amek console. Very good result compared with McIntyre & Fishman that I have heard on other guitars , especially for $8.00. I experimented with all kinds of ceramic piezo elements, and discovered that the film, having no resonant frequency of it's own, was the least harsh. I attatched it under the rear leg of the spider, and wired it to an endpin jack.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Delta blues, blues rock. Good for attatching to spider or cone in a resonator guitar.
Overall Rating
:

Comments: I plan to order more of these, at the price you can't go wrong. If you're a resonator guitar player and are comfortable experimenting, this is great value and very musical. Comes with good instructions and data sheet.
