Features
:
Fishman Passive Resophonic Guitar Pickup for psider and biscuit bridge instruments.
No onboard pre-amp.
Instrument
:
Fitted to a Dobro Houd Dog Standard round neck with spider bridge.
First pickup fitted to instrument.
Fitting was exteremly easy, the pick-up simply screwed to the bottom of the cone.
I also drilled a hole for the jack socket which was no problem.
Less than 1 hour to fit and re-assemble the guitar.

The sound from this pick-up seems pretty good.
I am using a cheap instrument but overall this amplifies with quite an authentic bluegrass dobro sound.
The sound tends towards the treble but with a bit of an EQ tweak it seems to be pretty versatile.
I've gigged it a few times and it has been fine.
I have experienced a slight feedback problem but this is just as likely to be my pre-amp / PA EQ settings.
The output of the pick-up is incredible low so do not expect to be able to just plug it in and gig with it.
Fishman do state this though on their website.
Overall Rating

This pick-up has a very low output and so it is essential that you have an external pre-amp. This is quoted on the Fishman website and by most retailers but I would personally recommend the active version.
The extra cost is marginal and it essentially gives you a plug and play instrument which is far more convenient.
Incidentally I have fitted one of Fishman's active biscuit-style only pick-ups to a brass bodied Ozark.
Although this is a physically different pick-up I assume they are using the same technologies here, probably the same pre-amp.
This is much better than the passive an sounds great. A totally usable sound and high output.
I would therefore not recommend the passive pick-up but the active version is awesome.
