Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: strong clear tone, not sentive to feedback
Tone: calssic peizo sound, somewhat brittle w/o pre-amp
Sonic evaluation: CAn be plugged staright in, but modern (non-tube) amps do not the impedance properly. Gives the harsh, brittle sound characteristic to peizo saddle pickups. However, with an outboard pre-amp (Fishman model G) I get much mellower more realistic tone, plus belt mounted volume and tone controls. Obviously, not as good as micing, but avoids all of the mic problems. I looked at these piezo pickups for years before I finally found a knowledgable shop that taught me about the pre-amp impedance problem. Not equal to a quality studio mic by any means, but very serviceable for bars, band settings, and similar situations.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: anything needing a natural acoustic sound
Overall Rating
:
8
Comments: Will be buying identical units for each of my other acoustics, both six and 12 string. Using one pre-amp, I can get good tone from each for about $65 per guitar.
