Comments: I would definitely buy another one!
I've been playing a long time - NOT a great guitar player but I really like GOOD sound.
I really like the ability to make the signal out of phase to help with feedback and the XLR output.
The Fishman pre-amps. I liked the sound and features of the L.R. Baggs better but there's not a huge difference - it's really a personal choice.
Can't think of anything else it needs.
Who doesn't want that studio condensor mic sound, but hey......
THE Best place to buy this from is Maury Rutch Music.

Sonic evaluation: I'd been playing a magnificent Gibson Blues King Electro with a marvelous SWR California Blonde acoustic amp. Then I bought an Aria Sinsonado travel guitar (like a SoloEtte). It needed some help. I also needed a direct box so I could plug the Sinsonado into an XLR outlet for a P.A. system. The user reviews here recommended the Para Acoustic D.I. Boy, were they right! It made the Sinsonado sound MUCH more acoustic. If I turned up the volume on the guitar, it went from sounding like an acoustic guitar to sounding like an electric. If I turn up the volume on the Para Acoustic D.I., however, I can keep the acoustic sound at higher volume. It even made my Gibson sound better, and I didn't think that was possible. This is a terrific product, and because it's only about 3x4", weighs less than a pound, and is built like a tank, I can take it on the road without difficulty.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Fingerpicking.

Comments: This is a must have if you plan to plug your guitar into a P.A. system. Besides giving you more control of the sound and volume, it has a good notch filter to stop feedback.

Reason for pickup change: NEEDED SOMTHING OTHER THAN A MIKE TO PRODUCE THE SOUND OF THE ACOUSTIC and I didn't want my guitar to have that fishman quack! Yeach!
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Plenty of volume, no distortion
Tone: I can get the sound of the guitar unamplified only louder and no feedback
Sonic evaluation: I noramally go directly into a PA but I also use an ultra sound. This set up Ibeam and the Para Di is excellent. Has killed all my feedback and consistancy problems. Pull it plug it in and get what I want.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I can't see any problems no matter what style you play

Perceived output level: This baby can boost your output on any type of accoustic p/u system!
Tone: see below
Sonic evaluation: I play a Gibson J-200 with the L.R. Baggs Dual Source through this, but, as I understand it, you can play any accoustic p/u through this direct box. This little unit makes a great sounding p/u sound even better. It allows you, with a little experimentation, to really tailor your sound. It also has a great notch filter. With this box, I am able to use a microphone based p/u system in a jumbo bodied accoustic guitar with accoustic drums, electric bass, electric guitar and keys at suprisingly loud volumes without feed back problems. I have to say that I have been totally amazed at the levels at which I can play without feed back. And I don't have to sacrafice the quality of my sound to achieve this. Sound quality is much better then a stomp box equalizer and it is dead quiet.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This would be great no matter what style you play. In fact it would allow you to tailor your sound to your style.

Comments: I would never willingly play accoustic guitar (at least amplified with some sort of pickup system) again without this box. It allows you to e.q. your signal before the board, and eliminate feed back with a very effective notch filter (actually it has two notch filters, one for lower mids and one for higher mids). It also has a phase inverter for those times when you can't eliminate feed back with the notch filter. To be honest, I have never had to use this. I have not experimented with the stereo effects loop yet but I am intending to try some digital and analog chorus and digital reverb soon. Actually, the sound that I have been getting out of this system (J-200/Dual Source/Para Accoustic D.I.) has been so full, clear, and warm that I have not had any desire to add anything at all to it. I find it totally inspirational. It is a sound or tone that makes me want to sit down and write songs for hours, or just simply explore new styles or techniques that really stretch me. This hasn't happened for me in quite a while. I can't say enough about Bagg's products. For me, the dual souce is an inspiration, and the Para Accoustic D.I. helps me get that sound out and tailor it to the setting in which I am playing without feed back problems. Don't go to the coffee shop without it!!!
