Amazzinnnggg clarriityyyy!! Even if you run it through the worst PA system or amp, there's nothing that a little EQ could do to make it sound BEAUTIFUL!

Will this give you the sound of a Martin small body or the Taylor Expression system? No.
But realize, .. . how much does this thing cost?? And how much labor do you have to go through to install this product?
.. . PRACTICALLY NOTHING!!!
Like many people, I work with sound equipment for church and worship. I wanted to get a pickup so that our church will have the convenience of whoever was leading worship for that time with WHATever guitar they have, we will be able to work with it. We could just slap it on any guitar we want and take it off whenever we so please. Also, since it will be used by the filthy hands of many people (church members don't always take the best care of their equipment, church volunteers/co-workers, you guys know what I'm talking about:) ), I didn't want to get something too expensive. So if this thing were to break, it wouldn't be much of a loss, which is why I got this instead of the humbucking or the single pole's model.
That being said, I was literally BLOWN away when I played this through a Roland KC-150. This fulfilled all our church's needs and MUCH MORE. I honestly wasn't expecting much and was planning to have major EQ mods to make it sound nice, but that was definitely NOT the case.
By far the BIGGEST bang for the buck, if you're considering buying this item because money IS a factor for you, BUY IT NOW!!!
You will NOT be able to find anything close to this for the price.

This pickup is a pasSingle Coil pickup, with a wood casing. Slips into Acoustic Guitar's sound hole without use of tools. Has rubber type of flanges that will not damage the sound hole when install / uninstalled.
Cable on mine says VTG low noise cable. To note VTG is a good audio cable manufacture. Also the cable is made in the U.S.A.

I installed this pickup on a very cheap Aria Baja Acoustic Guitar.
Very easy to install and uninstall.

Output level is what you would expect from any magnetic pickup.
One observation is that you can lower either the bass string side of the pickup or terble side like the manufacturer instructions say, but I just take some of the mids down when I am recording or playing live with this pickup. Other then the mids need to be tweaked a bit lower, the pickup is balanced nicely.

I would buy this again in a second if it was lost or stolen.
I've been playing for more the 20 years now, I have a bunch of low to mid range guitars and other equipment. (It's not the price, but how well you can play. a little tip ;-) )
I love this pickup, it has very low noise, and it sounds awesome when either I am recording or in a live performance.
For the price of the pickup, I highly recommend it, it's that good.

As the name suggests, its a Single Coil, Passive Sound Hole Pickup, and is relatively low impedance, so its quite resistant to feedback and 60 cycle hum, and doesn't lose signal strength when using long cables. Its housed in an attractive maple or beech casing, that looks pretty good when fitted. It doesnt ruin the aesthetics of your guitar. It comes with a fitted 14'' cable, which is handy, however it can be a nuisance and a danger sometimes.
Instrument
:
I installed this onto a Washburn D10S Acoustic Guitar. However, i decided to have the cable cut and connected to an input jack, and had it fitted into the guitar body. Allows for greater ease of use - 'plug and play' - and also prevents any risk of you or anyone else tripping over the cable when your playing, or when transporting your guitar (while the pickup is fitted).

The tone was quite warm. However, the treble strings are amplified slightly higher than the bass, due to the fact that the windings on the bass strings hav a lower magnetism, than the solid treble steel strings. It did sound a little electric though. (Keep reading for easy tips on how to rectify this)
I play mainly contemporary, classic and everything really, and this pickup is a good 'all rounder'. A few tips would be to, on the amp or pre-amp etc, remove the mid-range totally, and slightly reduce the treble. Just slightly. Then leave or alter the bass to taste. This is a really simple technique to create a much more 'acoustic' sound.

If it got stolen or damaged, I'd probably get another one because its great value and, with a bit of the tweaking I mentioned above, sounds brilliant.
I've been playing for a few years and I've got a number of different guitars. I've got a, Washburn X12 Electric, Fender Stratocaster Electric, Washburn D10S (modified - permanent SD Woody SC Soundhole pickup installed and wired to standard input jack - as mentioned above), Washburn C64SCE Classical (with built in B-Band Electronics).
Some of them arent premium goods, but here in Australia, guitars cost more due to the exchange rates etc. So guitars such as the D10S (and its variants) are considered pretty good - although definitely not top quality. They're just a good guitar thats easier for people to get hold of.
I compared the SD Woody SC, to several other sound hole pickups (e.g. comparable Dean Markley models) and I chose this one because of its good value, good sound (equivalent or better than all the others), and better appearance (maple wood casing).

Single Coil "slip-in" housed in wood. It slides into most soundholes on flat top acoustics.

I have two steel string acoustics I wanted to amplify through my small Peavey and Ross amplifiers, a 1967 Guild F212 and a 1974 Espana 6-string. It was relatively easy to install with no mods to the instrument and just a bit of fiddling with various types of foam used in the slots to secure the pickup.

I found the output quite adequate as is but for a decent size room gig you might want to mic the guitar in addition to the Woody. I didn't find it harsh at all and it definitley let through the "acoustic" sound I was looking for.
I play a bit of everything from blues, jazz, southern rock & country to folk (hence the 12-string) and this pickup was pretty much spot on for my needs. As I said, in a large and noisy room you MIGHT want to mic the guitar but in most other situations, if you've goty a Jumbo or Dreadnought (which I do) the guitar's volume along with the Woody is more than ample.

This pickup was an absolute steal! I was browsing Musician's Friend and saw it listed as a "blem" for $30.95 plus 5 bucks for shipping. I ordered it and waited to find out if there was more than one or if I was lucky. Needless to say, it arrived and my first thought was "this is a blem???" I have since THOROUGHLY inspected it and can not find one single mark, nick, dent, or anything to indicate it was blemished. My guess is they gave me a brand new one since it came packaged in like-new packaging. Maybe the frayed strings on the carry-bag made it a blem?
I would recommend the SD Woody to anyone looking for a decent pickup on a budget. And yeah, if it was stolen, I'd probably pay full shot to replace it (only $40)

Output level and sound is decent for a passive, but it is far from any active pickup. It does not sound fully acoustic (as expected for single coil) but it is ok for general use. I would not recommend it for live solo or recordings because it is too dull and neutral.

It is convenient since it does not require any permanent installation and will not damage a standard acoustic guitar. It is built to last but it is no match for any active pickup I tried. The absence of volume and tone control can be partly compensated by using a EQ pedal. This is a good choice as a spare or occasionnal use or if you definitely don't want to go spending a little more for an active pickup because of installation cost or permanent guitar alterations. It is better than a mike on stage because it is fairly resilient to feedback.

Reason for pickup change: I hit the wrong key and submitted an incomplete review. Sorry 'bout that!
Installed this so I could go to open mics without the sound person having a fit because they had to mic a guitar.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Decent output, probably akin to my Fralin Vintage Hots (6k ohms). Sounds fine thru either a PA channel or my amp.
Tone: I think this has a very balanced tone. Not too bassy, which I happen to like.
Sonic evaluation: I haven't really used this thing a lot, but that's about to change. I originally bought it for open mic use. Normally I play electric guitar with my 3-piece blues/rock band. But I'm taking the necessary steps to obtain solo acoustic gigs.
The 2 or 3 times I've used this at open mics, I've been very pleased. Obviously, it's not 100% acoustic guitar sounding. But it's very clear and clean and I've been pleasantly surprised, and it enabled me to "plug and play" with ease.
Now the REAL pleasant surprise. In recording the demo to put in my acoustic promo kit, I've plugged this into a JoeMeek VC6Q "British Channel" processor...mic pre/compressor/EQ unit. The sounds I got playing slide on this guitar with this pickup are amazing. It doesn't sound like a mic'd acoustic guitar...but it doesn't sound real "electric," either. The tone is a magic place in between those two. High notes sound sweet and clear but have good bite...but not at all shrill or quacky like piezos sound. The middle strings have very good definition and girth. The E and A strings actually sound very acoustic like. Here's the kicker: I recently bought a Takamine EG523SC, a nice acoustic/electric jumbo style. It sounds awesome plugged in for standard tuning stuff. But no way can I use it for slide styles...too bright and quacky. The old Tak F-310 is about 30 years old...spruce top and mahogany back/sides. This guitar sounds so sweet and warm and combined with the Woody, is now a blues machine deluxe. I feel like I just discovered gold (or oil) in my back yard.
A nice surprise was an original instrumental I was recording in open D tuning...just some nice strumming stuff with an arpeggiated lead in the middle. The F-310 with the Duncan totally outshined the newer Takamine. The piezo guitar was too harsh and bright, while the Woody picked up a lot of the middle frequencies in a very pleasant way. I'm just thrilled with the recording results I've had so far.
I plugged this guitar with the Woody into my Peavey Classic 50/410, dialed in just a bit of tube overdrive. Holy smokes!! Talk about righteous blues slide tone!! I was stunned and amazed. I can't wait to get working more to use this guitar/pickup combo. It's gonna be used a lot, I can tell you that.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues, rock, country, pop, originals. This pickup is a God-send for open tuning slide styles. It is THE slide tone I've always wanted.

Comments: I would definitely buy another if this one grew legs and walked away or one of my dogs chewed it up.
I've been playing a real long time (30+ years). As I said, primarily an electric player to this point, but branching out into acoustic land. I have a MIM Strat with Fralin Vintage Hots, the Classic 50, a nice Samick SG, the aforementioned new Takamine, some el cheapo recording gear, a Yamaha PA.
The only thing I guess this product would need is a volume control on it...but it's not really an issue with me. The only thing I really dislike is the attached cord. I'd like to get this modified so that I can "unplug" the pickup...and also have it wired to an endpin jack, so I can avoid dealing with the attached cable and still remove the pickup from the guitar.
I have the new Takamine for really nice amplified acoustic sound...and I will use that guitar a lot. But for open tuning and all my acoustic slide work, I'm DONE. This is THAT SOUND.
If you want an acoustic guitar pickup that sounds truly acoustic, this probably isn't what you want. But it sounds better than some low end acoustic/electrics I've heard at open mics. If you want something you can place in the guitar to attend open mics without modifying your guitar, this is the ticket. And if you are serious about playing acoustic slide blues, you'd better check one of these things out.
For what I paid for this, the ease of use, and now the awesome SOUND for acoustic slide, this is the ultimate thing. I've owned it about 2 years but haven't used it much...until now. Seymour hit a grand slam with this product.

Comments: I would get another one for sure. I am getting another pickup either mini mic or external SM57 just to add a little accoustic feel to a stereo mix. I'm making a lap steel guitar for blues and a Woody SC is going in. By the way if you put the SC really close to an amp it can hum, but that scenario wouldn't happen when playing.

Comments: If it were stolen I would definately buy again. I have been playing for over 30 years on and off. I love the fact that it turned a relatively middy toned guitar into a nice treble sound. Although there is not a lot of bass. But an equalizer will take care of that. I checked out sites like this and compared opinions. I am very satisfied with the sound the pickup produces for my guitar.

Sonic evaluation: The pickup slots into the soundhole. I cut the 14 foot cable that is attached to the unit and then rewired to a standard input I added to my guitar body , so that I can connect a standard guitar cable and unplug when I need to. This also adds versatility by allowing connection to an external preamp to tailor sound according to room etc.
