Features :
Simply "pops" into the sound hole, dont even have to slack the strings, its lead sorta hangs out the sound hole. I have to take the lead round the back of the pickup and out the "neck" side of the pickup or I get my right hand (picking hand) tangled in the lead.
Single coil and pretty good.
Can really crank the shadow with almost NO feedback, it only "reads" the strings and not the acoustic body.

Instrument :
My Yamaha LD has a very good active bridge & piezo pickup system.
I got this for stand'by when I read a few older LD's have pickup problems (mines 16 years old and still good). I use the shadow "with" my LD's system, jacked into 2 seperate channels of my stereo mixer.

Sound : 9
Output is medium, but the 3 thin strings get a "sorta" boost, so acoustic rock & roll is a doddle and very effective when doing lead and rythm and together.
I play/sing Irish ballads/jigs, reels, H'pipes, waltzes & polka's on harmonica, while backing myself on guitar, later in the evening I ease into 60's/70's rock & roll/blues, finishing with AC/DC sorta stuff.
I use this pickup in channel 4 on my mixer, with my guitars built in system in chanel 3, slowly easing the ballance over from acoustic sounding guitar to the shadow's electric sound.

Overall Rating : 8
Stolen-maybe I'd go for the hum bucker shadow, but I like the permanently attached lead on the 330 and no fidgety T M B V controlls.
I been playing for fifty years this September, school rock band etc, long hair is almost a shiny top now?
I am very surprised to get what I was looking for when I expected to be returning it as a piece of junk.
Very easy to set up at the mixer too, just level the eq's at 12 o clock (a-la-studiomaster and gigrac 1000).
I was ripped off, prices in Ireland are rediculas. Shop promissed same day delivery, it took almost 2 weeks???

Model of guitar or bass: very old, beautiful acoustic
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: none
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): irish ( not celtic, but I like that, too)
Reason for pickup change:

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: same as I expected
Tone: too electric sounding, not mellowed acoustic
Sonic evaluation: running straight to mixer without pre-amp with solid results, but cannot bring bad correct acoustic sound.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Need more 'wood' sound on guitar, so much switch, probably to piezo

Overall Rating : 7
Comments: I won't buy another in hole pickup. Too many cords.

Comments: I'm returning it today. There's nothing wrong with it, it gives a beautiful sound and I would recommend it to anyone. A lot of people say that soundhole pickups don't give you the 'true' acoustic sound and they're right. But that doesn't mean its a bad sound. I quite like the sound from the Shadow, my only problem is that because its a magnetic pickup, it doesn't pick up things like tapping the wood of the guitar which is something I do a bit of in my playing to compensate for not having a drummer on some songs. I also overcame my fear of drilling and am installing a Martin Thinline. I also figure, I bought an acoustic guitar so that I had an acoustic sound in my arsenal and to buy a single coil type pickup was really defeating the purpose of the instrument.
Nevertheless, the Shadow gives a great sound, and takes FX really well. Its a beautiful sound, like a blend between an acoustic and an electric. Its a shame I can't keep both the Shadow and the Martin pickup but I don't have that much money.

Features :
Pickup features: Single Coil Passive
Impedence or other specs: Sound Hole Model.

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Epiphone AJ-15
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: None..
Other pickups on guitar: None
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Folk, Rock.
Reason for pickup change: It had none before.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Above average for a single coil
Tone: Generally balanced.
Sonic evaluation: This is a pretty normal woody sound hole pickup. Stick it in the hole under the strings and plug it in.. hooray!. I put in in an Epi AJ-15... Jumbo acoustic.. nice rich tone. The pickup sounds nice.. a bit buzzy through a cheap-o amp, but sounds nice VIA a direct box. I tried it out on a direct box with headphones so I could hear just the pickup, and less of the guitar... It doesn't sound electric... which was my real goal. There's a bit more attack than I'd like, and a bit midrange biased, but overall pretty darn close. The AJ has a really bassy tone to it, and the pickup doesn't catch that.. Makes most acoustics sound alike

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Good match for my acoustic guitar playing.. should fit in nicely.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: If it was lost, stolen or destroyed, I'd get another one.. It's much cheaper than replacing the guitar with an A/E. I don't know if this pickup captures the ultimate in acoustic tone, but it's pretty balanced decent sounding pickup... at this price, complaints are for dummies. The only real concern I have is if the cable got ripped out of the wood block... not sure I could solder it back... guess I have to be careful not to step on it. :-) If someone were to ask me, "What's the best soundhole pickup?"... the answer wouldn't be the Shadow... but if the question was "Know of any good Soundhole Pickup Bargains??".. this pickup would be at the top of the list. Great buy.. MusicYo is making the deals again.
