Features : No Opinion
5009 PROFESSIONAL ROSEWOOD CLASSIC - classical style, solid spruce top, round soundhole, bound body, wooden inlay rosette,
rosewood back/sides, nato neck, 19 fret rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge, rosewood veneer on peghead, 3 per side gold tuners.
Available in Natural finish. Disc. 1998.

Came with a decent hardcase~ nothing fancy, but it does the job of protecting it well.

This one is a 1990 Alvarez 5009 Professional Classic (Japanese). No electronics.

Sound : No Opinion
To be honest, I didn't expect much from this guitar~ and was surprised to see and hear how good it actually was. I was also glad to find that the strings weren't too high, as my prior classic was terrible in that regard.

I don't play any one style, and so far this one seems to sound good, regardless of what I play.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
As I said, I was surprised to find the action was a lot lower than my prior classical guitar~ which makes it much nicer to play.. I got it used, so I don't know if the action came setup like that from the factory, or someone did something to make it that way. Everything seems to be how it should.. and I haven't yet found any flaws (have only had it a month). The prior owner must have taken very good care of it, for it to be in such great shape after 15+ years!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I was happy to find that the tuners on this guitar seem to be much better than some of the other classicals I've had~ really didn't expect them to be as smooth and solid as they are. The finish is well done, and that may attribute to it's still appearing like new. Being a classical there are no strap pins~ I can't talk about gigs and backups.. as I don't play for the public... just family and friends.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to need customer support, but have dealt with Alvarez before, and they have been very helpful (even when they didn't need to be)... bought it used, so no warranty.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing, on and off, for 20 years~just for my own amusement. I collect guitars, mostly Yairi~ and have a wide variety of models~ the latest, a CY140, and a DYM95V.

If this were lost or stolen, I wouldn't specifically head out to replace it~ but, if one came along, at a good price~ I would replace it. Mostly I love that it is easy to play~ I don't feel like I'm straining to make a chord, like a few other classicals I own.

I would love to find a DY92 Lute Back Yairi!
