Gloss finish, Classical 5011 BARDO is one of the low end economy models. Basic tuners, gold plate/pearloid or silver/white depending on year made. Rosewood fingerboard. Neck is Nato Mahogany as are the back and sides which are laminated. Top is Spruce (laminate) with fan type bracing. Celluloid binding. Soundhole inlay butterfly design.

Made in 1976, Japan.

Sound : 5
Not too bad for a bottom level classical, sounds pretty good considering. Certainly not equal of one of the higher end Alvarez. No where close to one made by Kazuo Yairi, but a good student model.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Didn't purchase new, so have no idea how it came from the factory. Finish seems well done, bridge/saddle well done. Action could be better, think it is from the top slightly warping.

Reliability/Durability : 5
This is a beater guitar, wouldn't use it otherwise.

Customer Support : 9
Not under warranty so never contacted them. Have dealt with Alvarez Customer support for other guitars~ always got fast answers and help.

Overall Rating : 5
Playing since the early 1960's~ Own many Alvarez and Yairi models, so if this one were to be stolen, not a problem and I probably wouldn't bother to buy another.

Rosewood back & sides, cedar top, full binding, pearl(oid?) tuners, inlaid headstock, back, rosette, & bridge.

This is a handmade guitar circa 1975 & it's beautiful. For the price I paid, I could never have bought another guitar as beautiful as this one.

Sound : 10
I'm a sucker for the tone of rosewood backs/sides & cedar tops... This one has been mellowed to perfection... It sounds as good as any classical I have ever played... The low E sounds with thick BOOM undertones & yet I can get the bright tones when I need them...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought it used from a local dealer... It needed new strings, but was otherwise perfect... The action is flawless... The finish is still shiny & the original bridge, tuners, etc. are in mint condition...

Reliability/Durability : 10
It has already lasted 30 years & looks practically new... I think it will probably be here long after I'm gone... I wouldn't gig with it because an acoustic-electric is so much easier than mic-ing an old guitar, but this one is my hands-down favorite for playing at home...

Overall Rating : 10
A HANDMADE classical made of ROSEWOOD/CEDAR with REAL inlay work & FULL binding for $175 including tax... It doesn't get any better than this... The only drawback is that there is so little information out there on this model... But then I guess if the rest of the world knew how amazing these guitars are, it would have cost a lot more than I got it for...

I should say that I got an especially good price for the dealer I boght it from, since we bought it and a Strat Plus at the same time...

I brought my Alvarez 5011 off ebay. I took a risk that paid off big time.
The finish was satin, and had few scratches that looked more like sticker glue.
Quite a nice finish for a guitar of it's age.
Body is concert size, not grand concert.
Neck is scale for classical and easy to move on without interfering with other strings.
I was fortunate to receive an Alvarez hardcase with my guitar, very plush interior.
I was told the the guitar was made in the 70's. More than althing I love the sound of this guitar.

I just brought 2 vintage Giannini, made in different years. Both are made of wood and one needs to be restored. I was looking for a certain sound that I felt could only come from a vintage old wood. The Alvarez has the size and sound that I have been looking for. The sound is rich and full. The note seem to linger and their is good seperation in the notes. I love classical and Brazillian music. I plan on getting better quality strings to get the best sound from it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Label say handmade all wood construction.
This quitar was truly loved before I was fortunate to get it.
I see no signs of warping, spilting wood or cracking in the finish.
It looks like it was made a year or two ago.
It's amazing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This quitar can withstand many more years of playing and loving.
I plan on playing it for years.

This guitar was made in 1977, I'm guessing, based on the inspectors number. It is an excellent of Japanese made guitars, at the time, I think. It appears to have a solid cedar top and mahogany sides and bottom. It has all it needs to be a classical guitar and since it was used, I was surprised to get a free hard case....it's not pretty; but, all we want to do is protect our "babies", right?

Sound : 9
Being a classical, it does what it's designed to do, the tone is clear, mellow and rich. I can't imagine I would change anything about this beauty, when I compare it to my others, it has it's own unique personality.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
This guitar looks like it came right off of the rack. Hardly even a ding or dent. If it were not for the full rich sound, I would say this guitar had been built within the past 12 months. I think I'm in Love....(G)

Reliability/Durability : 10
I see all classicals as a little bit delicate; but, then, what do I know, I'm still learning and still very careful of my "babies". I honestly believe, by virtue of making it almost 30 years, in this condition, it has to have an excellent rating..

Haven't had to deal with anyone.

Overall Rating : 10
Comparing this with my other Alvarez (3), my Washburn (3),epiphone (1)and my Cordoba C-5, I think this is as good as any of them; and, honestly, I think they really do their own personalities and it's hard to say one is better than the others; but, one thing for sure, I like this one.
