I can hardly read the label anymore. I think it was made in '76 or '77. It is, quite simply put, the best guitar ever. I traded some guy a Hohner Les Paul copy I bought for 85 bucks for this guitar 11 years ago. It had a big hole in it, still does, and I don't know how it got there. I used to be a person who didn't care that much about my gear, and didn't have a case for a long time. I took this guitar everywhere, no case, and it got beat to shit. Now I take better care of it, but I've never had it set up professionally. It still has super-low action and sounds soooo sweet.

Has the most mellow, yet loud sound I've heard from an acoustic. You've heard about Alvarez guitars, they can hold their own with the big boys. Well this one beats the big boys. I've never seen another 5049, on ebay or anywhere. Do they exist? 'Cause I would buy one on the spot if I ever saw one. If I lost this guitar I'd probably quit playing!

It's a beauty. Has a wide center stripe running down the back of a different wood. Abolone inlay on the headstock. Nice tortoise-shell pickguard and matching "SLM" truss rod cover. The hole in mine adds character.

Good lord I have not taken good care of this guitar and it still sounds wonderful. I'm serious folks, if you ever see one pick it up (or better yet email me and I will!).

This was my second guitar, and my first acoustic. It has been my main guitar ever since. I have accumulated much gear over the last 12 years or so but this is the one piece I would grab if the house was on fire. Seriously folks, it would next in line behind my girlfriend and the pets.
