I love this guitar. It was a replacment for a 20 yr old mexican classical that I broke when I was 15, My dad bought me this one the same week. I was skeptical at first, had never heard of Alverez. Got a b stock Only one minor run in the clearcoat on the next which is totally gone now from 14 yrs of playing. This is my favorite guitar and my prize posession. If I could find another I would buy it in an instant. Just as good as the famed yari and in my opinion with Martin strings I can't tell the difference from a Martin. Guitar is just as beautiful as when I got it, more so now that the spruce has aged. Fantastic guitar for the price, I don't have any experience with the onboard electronics as I have never plugged it in. Not too thrilled it didn't have two strap buttons but thats ok

I have owned an Alvarez 5224 since 1997. Bought it new in Cedar Rapid, IA. The older it gets the better ir sounds. I also play a 000-15 Martin, which is easier on the fingers, but the Alvarez sounds richer and deeper.
I have a GIbson SJ 100 which sounds really thunderous, but is much harder to play. the Alvarez is a nice in between feel and sound for a much better price. Joe Weiland

Bought this guitar off ebay pretty cheap. I was told it was made sometime in the late 80's. Hard to find information on these older Alvarezes. Inside label just says professional series with serial and model #. Came with the original case. This particular guitar has held up well through the years and is in great shape. The top is solid spruce, back and sides I assume are laminated mahogany. Rosewood fretboard, bridge, and headstock overlay. Black and white binding on top and black binding on back. Chrome sealed Alverez tuners. A pretty simple but nice looking guitar. Mother of pearl double A logo on headstock and MOP fret dots and 12th fret inlay.

This guitar sounds like a 20+ year old spruce/mahogany should. The top has aged well and has the full broke in sound I was looking for. Very balanced, not overly bright or boomy. Really sweet. A tone well worth what I paid for it and more. Better than any new guitar you will find at Guitar Center for under 500 bucks. Don't be misled, its no Martin D18 but we're not talking about $1500+ guitars either.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Wow does this guitar play easy. Whoever set it up before I had it did a heck of a job. Very easy on the fingers. Neck is a little fatter that my Martin D16. Tuners work fine and it stays in tune. This guitar is built very solid with no flaws that I have found. Just average grade wood but serves its purpose well.

Reliability/Durability : 8
As stated before a solid guitar. Finish is in excellent shape after all these years.

Don't know.

Been playing for years and have gone through a lot of guitars. Currently own a Martin D16, Taylor 110, Morgan Monroe M20, Seagull S6 and 2 mandolins, so I know a little of what I'm talking about. I would have paid a hundred dollars more for this guitar. Its nothing spectacular, it just is what it is, which happens to be an old guitar in good shape with a sweet tone. I would recommend it to anybody.
