Features : 10
it has a sound all of its own and when i`m with friends they love playing my guitar with the aluminum fret board because the sound is crisp

Sound : No Opinion
when the nuts wear out they make humming vibrating sound but the nuts and frets can be repaired with some careful work and bring that sound back nice and clear

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
well the finish on the nuts is hard to find and i`ve been searching for two months to find something shinny and hard

Reliability/Durability : 9
the guitar is sound but has cheap mechineheads and you have to use light strings or the nuts wear out quick strap bottons are hard to tighten if you have big hands

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : No Opinion

I have no clue when it was made ofr where, but it is at least 20 years old. It says Apllause Model No. AF14
This is a acoustic guitar entirely made of non wood materials, except for the body top which is laminated and it has 20 frets and weirdly enough a Aluminum fretboard.
The guitar has a passive built in pick up so it can be used amplified. A volume know is on the side of the body and a normal jack at the bottom.
The bridge is a nicely red wood shaped piece and still has a good action. The tuners are quiet good since they are able to hold their tune after 20 years of playing, but now they are showing their age.
I got this guitar 2nd hand and a Ovation Hard case was included.

Sound : 6
I use this guitar to play accoustic at home, and it suits very well.
I don't use it regulary but from time to time.
I don't use it amplified anymore, since one of the contacts on the jack got loose and I need to get it fixed some day.
The guitar sounds nice, but not as nice as a full wooden simelar guitar. It has a somewhat strange sound but not bad.
It can be played pretty hard and still sounds o.k. There is a lot of variation possible, but all depends on the player.
I use to like the sound more, but having been playing on a full wooden simelar Washburn recently, I don't like it as I used too.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I have no clue how it was set up at the factory, it had been played about ten years when I bought it. But the previous owner kept it well preserved, so it was playable without making any adjustments.
The brigde set up is nice and very solid.
I haven't found any flaws so far appart from the fretboard.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I would use the guitar live as a backup, bacouse of the worn out aluminum fretboard. I don't know if the fretboard can be replaced, but is will be costly since the frets can't be removed seperatly, so the entire arm has to be replaced.
I still can depent on it as a study guitar and use it for light entertainment when playing together with my father in law at familly barbeque's.

I heve never dealth with the company.

Overall Rating : 6
I have been playing guitar for 12 years now, playing different styles of music, but mostly electric.
If it were stolen or lost, I would get another guitar, but not an Applause. I would choose a full wooden made guitar for it's warmer sound.
The fretboard is the guitars biggest bad feature. It is so worn out now (well 20 years of playing, normal wear I think) but the frets can't be replaced nor can the fretboard since it is a single piece glued onto the "plastic" arm. So I'm afraid I would have to replace the whole arm. I don't intend too, because it won't be possible and should it be possible after all it would be too costly.
I have a few other guitars (all electric) and prefer these over the Applause. Should I ever buy a new acoustic guitar, I would probably buy a Washburn.

This is not a review, and I hope the admininstrator of Harmony's webpage will forgive me, but posting to their forum/becoming a member is a MAJOR pain in the butt (Are you listening, Harmony?) I just bought a Applause guitar on ebay, and it's got an ALUMINUM FRETBOARD, at least according to the seller. Haven't seen it yet, but I am very curious. Has anyone ever seen such a thing? I don't mean alum. neck, I mean fretboard. How wierd! Please email me ASAP if you know anything. Once I have had the thing for a while, I will update this, I promise, and let you all know how such an oddity works.
