It's pretty much your standard southern jumbo style guitar, modelled after the Gibson J-45's and J-50's of a by gone era, with the 14th fret at the body and sloped shoulders. The Blueridge features a solid spruce top and sports laminate mohogoney back and sides, rosewood fretboard, bridge and bridge plate. The tuners are a standard lot, open back, but hold tune fairly well. The dovetail joint neck also helps in the guitar's tone, once again, something that other guitars lack.

This guitar sounds AMAZING. It's got a nice, deep, rich jumbo tone reminiscent of early Dylan. It's still got plenty of sparkle and snap in the high end, but if you want something a little brighter, there is a rosewood model, as well.

The setup from factory is pretty decent, luckily I got mine from a local shop where set-ups are included on ALL guitars, so it plays beautifully. The frets are all level, crowned and ended beautifully, no bad ends or anything. The fingerboard and headstock also feature VERY striking inlays. The finish is flawless and takes a beating pretty well, I actually bumped it into my desk a few times already, and it still hasn't got a mark on it. The finish around the soundhole, neck and binding is fairly nice. There is a bit of an inconsitancy around the upper bout on the bass side, nothing too bad, but if you run your finger over the binding, you can feel it. The sunburst is a bit disapointing in pictures, as well. In person, the guitar looks beautiful, but in photos, it always looks more like a 3-tone sunburst or like a red to black burst. Not many big deals, but there are a few things.

This thing feels like a tank. I'm more confortable with this guitar than I am any of the other guitars I was considering (Epiphone EJ-160e, Masterbuilt AJ-500e, Hummingbird, Carlo Robelli BWJ424, Ovation Ultra 5021 and Martin 000X1) in terms of finish and feel. Most of the other guitars either felt cheaper in terms of materials or finish or just didn't play or sound as nice as the Blueridge. The Blueridge's body feels solid, the tuners seem suprisingly nice for how they look and the guitar as a whole is just genuinely better than any of the other choices. I'd like to say that my taking this to gigs as my only guitar we by choice, but, right now its my old acoustic guitar, but I would trust this guitar.

This is my favorite question: if this guitar were lost or stolen, I would almost definately get another one. It's just so nice. I love almost everything about the guitar. Compared to my other choices, this one had all of the components: rich, full tone, a beautiful finish and great feel. This was something that none of the other guitars that I looked at all had. The one thing I do wish that the blueridges had as an option was an electronics system, but I guess that's what my Pro-mag is for, down the road, I'll probably be adding a Fishman Rare Earth to the guitar. Even with the Pro-mag, though, it sounds pretty good. Just did an open mic with the pro-mag and got GREAT tone from the PA system. All in all, this thing is just a fantastic guitar... I mean AMAZING.

Great on the finish, construction and playability. Solid spruce top and laminated mahogony sides and back. Good looking copy of the Gibson J-45 with a 24-3/4" scale. Very easy to play.

This guitar is loud and well balanced. I love sitting on the couch and playing it. Has a nice ringing tone that cuts through just about anything.

I can find no fault with this guitar other than the pick guard which I removed because it looked a little cheesy. this is a very well constructed guitar that plays extremely well.

I'm going to replace the tuners with some Grovers since the Grovers are much easier to use. Would definitely gig with this as a main squeeze.

Unless you have a lot of money to spare or are a guitar snob (like I used to be) you owe it to yourself to get one of these blueridge guitars. Get any model because they are all good. Really. I had a Brazilian D28 for almost 3 decades and an inexpensive blueridge pried the Martin out of my hands. I can't belive I'm saying that or did it but it's true!!! You can't go wrong with oneof these, any model. I am particularly fond of the BG-40 due to the scale length, the sunburst and slope shoulder ala Gibson. Love this thing!

This is a "new old stock" 2004 BG-40. solid Sprice top, laminate back and sides. Rosewood fretboard and bridge, multi-piece mahogany neck. Vintage tuners with ivoroid buttons.

KILLER sound for the money (can almost drop the "for the money" part). Loud, upfront, full tone with lots of sustain. Great bass response. Great for the commbo of rock, pop and folk. Hard to argue with this much sound for this little money. Haven't played the solid back and sides version of this (the BG140), but I'm not sure I'd hear a big improvement over this. I've owned and played over 20 acoustics and this is surely a fine guitar.

This is an exceptionally nicely put together insrument. Really nearly flawless construction, clean as a whistle inside and out. The finish, though sprayed onto the whole instrument after construction (it is afterall, a cheap guitar), is very thinly and evenly applied.
the only problem with this guitar is the tuning machines. they are a nice try, but some are pretty good and some are really stiff... tried lubricating and working them in, but didn't make much difference. I replaced them with a $35 set of grovers, and now it's all set. I've heard the tuners are better on later models, don't know. Aside from the tuners, I'd have to give it a 10, especially after having played many mid-priced guitars over the past few years...

Again, apart from the tuners, it seems very well-constructed, though still very light. Since it's new old stock and therefore already 2 years old, I'm encouraged...
I would (and will) gig with it for sure. Tuners are a weak spot.

I've been playing for 30+ years. I've owned many guitars, Martins, Tacoma's Larrivees, Gibsons, Taylors, Blueridge's, Seagulls, etc. This guitar (like many Blueridge's) brings new meaning to "bang for the buck". this is a guitar that your guitar officianado buddies will say "wow!" to, and only later on get around to asking you what you paid. Tremendous as a second guitar and worthy of being your main squeeze!
