I think they have been described already....One point I like the small head...it reminds me of my Martin Backpacker...

Sound : 10
Wow...this sounds great. It has a very bright sound...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The neck is the real suprize...it reminds me of my Les Paul...kind'a. 14th fret gives you plenty of room...this is a great lead guitar. The set-up was fine...size I think one of the guys at the guitar store said it was his favorite...I didn't notice any flaws...over craftmanship was very good for a factory line guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is for song writing and acustic jammming...I'm not sure about live applications yet...maybe. I wound't hessitate to use it.

Ok...I'm more of a blues Strat kind'a of player. I guess if I were a real blue grass/country/folk player I would go for something more traditional like a Martin or a Gibson, but this guitar does the trick for me for the money. Excellent buy...

Bluegrass in my music style. Loud, rich and full sound with great sustain. Own this guitar for over a year now and it gets better every day. Top is opening up.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is nice and low with no fret buzz. Well made guitar with no flaws. Stays in tune. I added Ebony bridge pins.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Solid Guitar! Owned it for over a year with no problems.

Customer Support : 9
Have not delt with Saga, but have a great Dealer. One year warranty from Saga, but lifetime from the dealer.

Overall Rating : 10
Own a Gibson and a Fender drednought. If it was lost or stolen, I'd cry like a baby and buy another.

Thin neck, which is good for small hands like mine. Butterbean-remake tuners are probably not the best, but seem to be fine. Bone nut & saddle? On a guitar of this price? Get outta here!!

Sound : 9
This was also my knockaround guitar, but the big sound of this thing is a continuous marvel. It keeps bringing the best out of me - my wife now lets me play in the house. :-)

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Nice, even GLOSS (not @#!# satin) finish. Seems like it will wear fine. Nice, consistent work throughout.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I've only had it for a month.

I did a lot of research to get the best I could for under $400, and I palyed a bunch of guitars in this price range before I went to Carmine St., my favorite store. Rick always has stuff for every budget & honest opinions. I played the BR40 & he started laughing at my expression. Apparently, a lot of people react the same! I preferred this to its bigger brothers, and it's going to make me a better player. Weird for less than $400.00! It'll be agood friend. Just wish it didn't have to be made in China to get this kind of guitar.

Blueridge Model BR-40 Solid tight grain Sitka Spruce Top Drednaught. Laminated Mahogany Sides and Back. Thin Mahogany neck. Bone Nut and Saddle. Scalloped Bracing. Rosewood finger board and Bridge. Well polished frets. Gloss Finish.

Sound : 10
I play Bluegrass and bought it for a knock around jam guitar. Have owned it for 6 months and the top is opening up. Unbelivable sound for a laminated back and side guitar! This thing is not supose to sound this good! Loud with a deep rich tone. Excellent sustain! Perfect Bluegrass guitar. Stays in tune!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is low. Tight grain bookmatched spruce top. Fit is perfect no mismatch or sloppy gluing. Finish is very good. I made a slight adjustment to the thrust rod. No fret buzz any where up and down the neck. Straightes neck I've seen on a guitar. First thing I did was replace the cheep D'Addario strings with Martin SP lights. Also replaced the plastic bridge pins with Ebony. It Stays in tune! Have had no problems with the tunners. You do have to take your time when changing strings, because of the narrow peg head.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Guitar is durable and reliable. It will last with my playing. I also take care of my instruments.

Customer Support : 9
Bought it from an established Blueridge dealer. Don't see any forseeable problemes with this guitar. Not worried about customer support. Do most repairs myself.

Overall Rating : 10
Have been playing off and on for 40 years. Own Martin HD-28 and a Gibson Hummingbird. Have owned Ibanez, Washburn and Sigma guitars and got rid of them. Bought this one for a knock around guitar for bluegrass jams. Quickly becoming my favorite. If it was lost or stolen, I'd buy another, but I probably won't find one that sounds this good. You won't find any guitar better than this for the money!

Blueridge Model BR-40. Solid Top Dreadnaught Style....Laminated Sides and Back..Gloss Finish. First, let me say that I've been playing for 40 years...I have a "High-End" Takamine and a Martin. I had head alot of Positive things about Blueridge Guitars. I bought the BR-40 on the internet...brand new with hardshell case for $280.00..I figured at least I'd have a "Knock- Around" guitar..and at that price I wasn't expecting much more...BUT WAS I SUPRISED!!!
The finish was "flawless". The Guitar was beautiful!!! I had to do "Minor" set up...I like my action fairly low...When I started to play it reminded me of a Taylor 310 I used to have...A kind of shimmering "crystal-like" sound...but still had pretty good low end...Not Gibson "low end" More Like a Taylor. Bottom Line...This is a Really Good Guitar...Sustain is Excellent....Neck is very Playable (Not a Taylor Neck, but what is???) The only negitive are the tuners...they look "retro-cool" but are not high end quality...My advice...Swap Them!!!! For the price...I'd buy another Blueridge BR-40, no doubt...they blow away anything in the price range!!!!

Sound : 8
Soiund great for Flat[ick and Fingerpicking...Again Not much "Low-End" I paly Country, Some Bluegrass...Good For that...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Finish Very Good...Top was "Matched" well....Tuners are "sub-standard"

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is Lightweight...Similar to a low end martin...Like a DM or something like that...Yes, I'd paly it "live"...without a backup??? no way...I'd never play without a backup...that's why I have (3) acoustics...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Just got it...I'm sure the Guitar will last awhile...factory warranty is (1) year...Who wants to send a guitar to the factory, anyway?...I assume it will last, if properly taken care of...

Overall Rating : 9
No other Guitar will touch this...For the Money!!!!

Copy of a pre-war Martin D-18 drednought 20 fret 14 clear, made in China sometime in 2003. Solid Sitka Spruce top and laminated Mahogany sides and back. Thin Mahogany neck dovetail neck/body construction. Forward X-pattern scalloped bracing. Martin style bridge. East Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Bone nut and saddle. Polished frets.
Chrome 14:1 Kluson style tuners with butterbean knobs. Mother of pearl position dots and peghead inlay. Five ply body binding (black/white/black/white/black) and double seven ply Rosetta(black/white/black/white/black/white/black). Black plastic pickguard and bridge pins. Natural high-gloss finnish.

Sound : 10
Returning to my roots in old age. Love bluegrass!
Unbelievable sound for a laminated back and side guitar. Very loud with full deep rich tone. Sounds best with Martin SP strings. The sound is going to get even better with age.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The craftsman did a good job building this guitar. Every thing set up properly. No over glueing or loose glue inside. No mismatch bracing. Frets are well polished. The finish is near perfect except for a run that setteled on the inside of the sound hole and a couple of sawdust specks on the back which were finished over. The peghead should be a little wider to keep the strings from contacting the first and sixth tuning pegs. Guitar should come with better strings than the D'Addario light gage.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Solid build and will stand up to my playing. May want to replace the tuners at some point of time.

Customer Support : 8
Internet said one year warranty, but Bulldog music told me its a life time warranty. If I have any problems, I'll take it back to Art and Kevin and they will make it right.

Overall Rating : 10
Easy to play with a great sound. Well built. Beats my Washburn and the Martin Sigmas I've played. Researched many guitars in the $300 to $400 price range and the Blueridge is the best suited for bluegrass style.

This guitar comes with solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and neck....rosewood fingerboard...dreadnought design in a Martin D series...bone nut and bridge....Made in China, which keeps price low (paid $279.00w/casefrom musicbrokers.com new) Has pre-war old style scalloped and parabolic x-bracing...laminated slick ....gorgeous old-timey inlay on headstock...old style butterbean tuners....to come out of box w/ bone nut and bridge, I rate this highly, yet, the case it came with is ok as cases go, but it does not seem to fit this guitar.I do not know that this is the one that comes from the Blueridge manufacturer or the seller used one he wanted to get rid of...do some shopping and ask questions about the case before you buy, but the guitar itself is the issue here.

Sound : 10
I'm into all kinds of music, and the sound can handle all.....it is VERY LOUD, full, rich, there are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe the amazing tone....great bass and brightness, as I'm sure the bracing coupled w/the bone nut and brige enhances the sound threefold....In doing research before I bought, I notice that many bluegrass pickers are using and recommending them, which was enough to spike my interest...I am still amazed every time i strum it...could not be more satisfied w/sound.....believe me when I say that I tried many name brands that cost hundreds of dollars more before this purchase whose sound in many cases did not compare.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
the tuners could be better,,,coming new from the factory required an hour or so to get the new strings to stay in tune, along with minimal truss rod adjustment, it has stayed in tune from then on to present....came factory equipped with D'addario strings, don't know what gauge but Ive read that Martin light/medium work best and will soon try those...action is moderately low and good...the only thing I've encountered on the fretboard is on the 12th fret it is for lack of a better term somewhat dead, but any and all others ring very fine...remember...under $300.00 !!!

Reliability/Durability : 8
At this review time, I have owned/played tis thing a couple months and have not encountered any breakdowns, but again, time will tell

Customer Support : 5
I am still looking for customer support just in case......

Overall Rating : 10
I also owmn a Takemine ES 530.....this guitar sounds better....shopped and searched my ass off in search of a good sounding guitar to bang around at home and feel confident enough to take this one out of the house as it can backup anytime...again, the case that came with mine is questionable as far as properly mating with this model and may soon get a new one I would definitely replace this thing with the same if lost or stolen, for under $300.00, hell, yes I would....

The BR 40 has a solid top and laminated mahogany (or sapele) back and sides. Typically this inhibits the huge and full sound that comes out of this guitar. I bought this instrument having (and currently) owning Martins. This is a good knock around instrument that I won't worry about taking to gigs, camping, etc.

There is not a lot of fancy work except for the headstock, which to me is a liitle overboard...I actually laminated a burled wood veneer over the fancy inlay work, because I don't think it suits an otherwise plain mahogany instrument.

Sound : 10
The sound of this instrument is the selling point...it is unbelievable for the price. It is fuller and richer than the D18, due to the scalloped bracing. Great for fingerstyle and light strumming. it cuts through a mix, so I'm sure it would also be a good bluegrass lead instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Mine was set up well from the dealer. The nut is a little narrow, so I made a new nut and widened the string spacing just a little...makes a big difference in playability.
The headstock design is a bit strange. The headstock needs to be a little wider, allowing the strings to take a straight approach to the nut without touching the tuner below it...this is a functional and asthetic design issue in my opinion.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Don't know yet...these are pretty new on the market and come with only a one year warranty...time will tell (literally).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know about this either...I would recommend buying from a reputable dealer who will back up the instrument.

Overall Rating : 8
I ahve been playing guitars for the past 40 years. I would replace it if stolen...and the guys in my group are considering stealing it from me...Other than the headstock design

Standard Dreadnaught copy of Martin D-18, Mahogony back and sides. Spruce Top. Non-locking, somewhat cheap tuners. Very shallow and thin C-neck, best for small to very small hands.

Sound : 9
Sound is the best and most amazing aspect of this inexpensive Martin copy. Quite deep and rich.
Would give a ten for price, but also have a Guild D50 which costs many times more and is my reference!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action was good, and finish was good overall. Some glue fell out of sound hole and upon closer inspection joints that were glued were somewhat lacking. Tuners are O.K.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Everything seems fairly durable.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I am an intermediate player and flatpicker primarily. I would not hesitate to recommend this guitar as a great value for tone in this price range, having tried many.

That said, I would give the guitar a careful lookover, before buying, which excludes internet buying.

Eventually, you may want to upgrade tuners since the sound warrants any and all upgrades!
