10. adirondack spruce top, beautifull mahogany sides, waverly tuners, snakehead bone nut and saddle fossilized walrus ivory strap pin!

This is the best sounding slope shouldered dread out there. The balance is phenomanal. The collings I a/b 'd it with was more open and had a more disco smile( scooped eq) sound, It was wonderfull but the slope D was even across the board. This guitar makes the Gibsons true vintage and vos j45's sound like two by fours, I kid you not. After I played this guitar the 3000 dollars I was going to pay for a true vintage gibson j45 vos custom shop felt like throwing money away. The 3600 I paid for this guitar is simply the best bargain Ive ever gotten, this guitar is an extension of me, It defys words

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Absolutley the most playable neck Ive ever played. Dana gets the angle of the neck perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Hand made guitar of the finest quality, the fit and finish is stunning

Havent dealt w them yet

Overall Rating : 10
After playing this guitar I cant believe the money people are throwing away on gibbies and martins. This slope d is a better guitar with better appointments than a luthiers choice j45(7 grand)he and marquis martins. This is the best money ive ever spent.

Brazilian/Adirondack Slope D, built in 2002. Square headstock with nickel Waverlies. Ridiculously beautiful wood selection, Brazilian is straight-grained and Adirondack is nice and even.

Sound : 10
Sounds astonishingly good. Some guitars sound good when you strum a G chord with a pick, some sound good for single-note flatpicking, and some sound good fingerstyle. This one sounds phenomenal across the board. Just wants to be played. Super intonation in every position. Even plays in tune going from an open G chord with the 2nd string open to an E major chord. I have never owned a guitar that can do that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Plays great. I use mediums with a medium-high action. Screwed together flawlessly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems solid. I bloody well hope I never drop it!

Customer Support : 10
Bonnie over at Pantheon is wonderfully helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
Silly good sounding and playing guitar. I am a Slope D junkie. I think they are the absolute bomb as far as versatility/recordability/volume/timbre are concerned. I've owned all the usual suspects (Goodall, Collings, etc.) and this one is the only keeper.

Just about perfect finish and fit.

The wood is sublime.

Reliability/Durability : 10

been playing 33 years, several martins, gibson acoustic, a 1965 Alvarez proto type D-35 knock off w/Spruce/rosewood that is just getting aged to perfection.
Too early to tell if it is the dream guitar, but sure seems like it.
Have '69 D-28 and ' 56 Gibson archtop so wanted something new and always admired the Slope D.

1999 Bourgeois Slop-D, 20 fret, solid sitka spruce top, brazilian rose wood sides and back, L.R. Baggs Dual Source pickup with remote harnes, snake head style headstock, ebony fret board, soft shouldered dreadnought, neck is incredibly flat with a fantastic feel, its exactly how i want a neck to feel. bone nut and saddle.

Sound : 10
i'm a folk kind of player mostly, but i do vary quite a bit, and this guitar will do anything i want it to, incredibly versitile. with the rather expensive (but well worth it) L.R. Bags Dual Source pick up in it, and all its lil features, you can get quite a range of sound of this guitar, but keep it unlpugged and it still sounds just amazing. lows and highs are in perfect sync with eachother, great hand made choices in wood. no dislikes what so ever, its perfect for me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the action is nice and low, not low enough to distort or buzz or anyhting, just right. there is one pickup located directly under the bridge, and one down by the amp plug in (i think). bookmatched front and back, bridge is perfect, no flaws at all...hand crafted to perfection.

Reliability/Durability : 9
this particular was once owned by stephen bruton at one point, and i know that the dixie chicks guitarist, and many others play bourgeois, so i know that they can wistand live playing, though i've never had any personal experiance. the hardware seems like its quite bullet proof as well. finish is there to withstand the test of time, and my playing. if i played a gig with this guitar, all i'd bring is a tuning fork and a second set of strings.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to use any.

Overall Rating : 10
this guitar is basically everything i like in a guitar, the soft shoulder dreadnought design, the dual source pickup, the headstock design, the neck radius, tone and sound, everything. and after around 9 years of playing, i know what a guitar is supposed to sound like, and this is it, plugged or unplugged. if this guitar ever was stolen, i think i'd break down and cry, then hunt down the lil theif, and see how durable the guitar is *evil laughter here*. i think my fav feature is the neck radius, so flat and wonderful. it is pretty expensive, but the guitar is hand crafted, and painstakingly made, and it shows. all other guitars from this point on will be compared to this guitar. its all i need.

Mine is a gorgeous sunburst, Luthier's Choice II (LCII) Slope D (#2 of 30). It is amazingly simple in its decoration, but the sound is where the action is. Mahogany back and sides and neck, slightly bearclawed Sitka top, Gotoh nickel tuners (wish they were engraved Waverly's), rosewood veneer headstock, square peghead with binding and MOP logo. I thought I'd never own a sunburst acoustic guitar until I played this one. The slope shoulder is much more comfortable to play than a standard dreadnought in my opinion. The mahogany makes this an extremely lightweight guitar to hold and play.

Sound : 10
This guitar suits my musical style perfectly. I fingerpick, flatpick, strum, and jam down hard at times. The bass and treble are well balanced, but the overall warmth of the guitar is what makes it so special. The guitar has a slightly brighter sound versus an overall Martin-esque bassy sound, so in my opinion, it is much more versatile for fingerstyle playing than any dreadnaought I've played. Dana Bourgeois owns one as his personal guitar, so I suppose I made a good choice with this one (although I was unaware of that fact when I purchase it).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I prefer the action to be a little lower than most factory settings, so Jimmy Steilberg set it up to my liking. The 1-11/16 nut is right for me. The finish and the bindings are all beautiful ivoroid - much more appealing than white, but I did see an nick in the binding around the headstock apparently before the finish was applied. This really tells me that the guitar is more hand-built than mass produced, and I have no complaints about the apparent "flaw."

The sunburst finish is just beautiful. It really blends nicely with the mahogany woodgrain. I can't imagine a nicer mahogany guitar.

The edges of the fretwire could have been filed a bit better as I can feel a little burring from the edges. The frets extend past the binding which is not something I prefer. Goodalls are good example of a well-finished fingerboard. But I love the overal feel of the neck and the playability of the guitar - better than Goodalls or Martins. Bourgeois guitars play similarly to Collings and Taylors.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar will live a long and pampered life. The instrument is too nice to abuse.

Customer Support : 9
Dana and his shop staff are always available to answer questions and provide advice. I have 3 Bourgeois guitars and I'm very pleased with their customer service and support.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for over 30 years now, and I own 2 other Bourgeois guitars, a terrific Collings OM2H-Cutaway, and a Goodall. I may sell one or more of these as time goes on, but my LCII Slope D, will be with me until I'm older and greyer and more in the way. The LCII Slope D is my first choice for gig and jam situations. Simply put, it's just a great guitar. If it were stolen, I would probably ask Dana to build me another one with Waverly tuners. I might even ask for the snakehead headstock, but I don't want to think about it. On the day this guitar was made, the guitar gods and angels were singing in tune. You owe it to yourself to play a Bourgeois Slope D. Dana may be making them better than anyone out there, and that's say a whole lot.

Features : 10
Custom Slope D with Adirondack spruce top (lovely straight grain) and beautiful Ziricote back that has to be seen to be believed. "Snakehead" style headstock with beautiful black ebony facing with very classy gold waverly open gear tuners. Satin finished, wide neck, fairly deep and beautifully done sunburst top.

Sound : 10
The top will take a while to open up, but at the moment the sound is wonderfully balanced, with a bass that reminds me of a Martin HD28 I once had the pleasure of trying, but with much better trebles. Slightly boxy sound that I like and that compliments my Taylor dread very nicely. I think it will be much easier to record with this guitar than my Taylor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Medium action, but very easy to play, though I have strung it with light gauge strings. I love the fingerboard width, which makes fingerpicking an absolute breeze. No problems over finish.

The only thing I didn't like is the strap button, which Dana leaves unfitted when the guitar is shipped. I found this a bit fiddly to get in securely and would have prefered a sturdier screw type button.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Haven't dared gig with it yet as I think the top will be very easy to scratch. The Gloss finish is a LOT thinner than my Taylor. However, it does seem fairly robust and survived a 3 1/2 hour journey home on two different trains on one of the coldest days of the winter !

Customer Support : 10
The case that came with it was damaged along one of the seams. I e-mailed Dana who is going to send me a replacement. He also answered a lot of questions I had about the guitar before I bought it, and I know he is a VERY busy man. I am slightly worried about the history of the company and the fact that they seemed to go bust back in 2000, but everything seems to be OK now and Dana is producing some truly stunning instruments.

Overall Rating : 10
I also own a Taylor 810B LOTF and this guitar compliments my Taylor perfectly. With its awesome Ziricote back and sides this is a unique instrument, and one that I would find almost impossible to replace. However, if the unthinkable happened I would trust Dana Bourgeois to build and equaly beautiful looking and sounding guitar. It is difficult to know how it could be improved. I'm not a great fan of coloured tops and prefer to see natural wood, but there is something about sunburst finishes that just say "Rock'n'Roll". I would also have liked an abalone rosette, but overall there are a sensible number of upgrades on this guitar to make it worth every penny I paid for it

Features : 10
2002 Bourgeois made in Lewiston Maine through Pantheon Guitars. This Slope D is inspired by the classic Gibson Advanced Jumbo which Dana has adpated. All solid woods, Indian Rosewood back and sides, sunburst Adirondack top, mahogany neck, snakehead style peg head with ebony overlay, ebony fretboard and bridge, waverly tuners with ivoroid buttons, gloss finish, bone nut and saddle, 14 frets clear of body, small dot inlays. All adirondack braces. Grained Ivoroid binding on body, neck, and peghead. White, black, white purfling. Came with case, strap, and extra strings.

Sound : 9
This is a bluegrass cannon, but is suitable for many other styles of playing. Great tone and all the volume you need to beat down those banjos. Big woody tone with medium strings. This one is set up for bluegrass, so it has a medium high action which won't suit some players. Only reason that I rate the sound a 9 is that the Adirondack top will need a while to open up. It should be an 11 when it does.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is medium high. Top is very high grade Adirondack with beautiful sunburst going from dark maroon to yellow without hiding the wood underneath. Gloss finish is excelent. Inside is as clean as the outside. No stray glue or rough surfaces.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Top quality parts and woods. Wonderful stage guitar. The finish is very good, thin as it should be while protecting the wood. Some care is required, as is true for all solid wood guitars, for heat, cold and humidity. Very dependable and I would not hsitate to use it without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
Pantheon is a pleasure to work with both by e-mail and by phone. Very helpful with knowledgable staff.

Overall Rating : 10
I've played guitar for over 25 years. This guitar joins a Martin HD 28, Bourgeois Ricky Skaggs Signature Model, Larrivee D19M and D10KK, and Breedlove C12MP. This guitar would be replaced by the same thing if lost or stolen. The sunburst and peg head say this guitar is special and the sound is exceptional. I'm not real fond of the pick gaurd shape but that is really minor. I compared it to a Gibson AJ in brazilian and the slope D was much louder and had better tone.
