Probably a 1981. Made in Korea. Full sized dreadnaught guitar with 20 frets. It has a mitered neck, laminated top, white gloss finish, black double binding, black pick-guard, standard pin mahogony bridge, black nut, grover style tuners, and x-bracing. The fret wires are nice and fat like an electric guitar, the neck is wide and flat like a classical -- so this thing was designed for fast action, speed, easy bar-chords, slides, and deep bends.

Sound : 7
The advantage of laminates is that they are never cranky when the weather changes -- and this one is no exception. It has a bright, loud, consistent, tone that is consistent from high to low and responds well to different playing styles. It works well with an SM-57 on stage with a standard rig. It can sound very rock-and-roll, or ballad-y. Best of all it stays in tune. And it looks cool too. It deserves a 10 in the laminate category -- but overall it is a 7 for sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I have no idea how it was set up at the factory. I put a compensated bone saddle in it and I do my own set-ups. I'm using 80/20 strings -- .12 - 54 and it is perfect. This guitar just feels good in the hand -- very smooth and easy to play. It looks cool and much more expensive than it is. Amazingly enough for all its obvious play time -- it only has two minor cosmetic flaws -- both of which are surface bumps that are not visible from 5 feet away.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This was really well made. Forget everything you think you know about Cort guitars. I'm not sure if they went through a better faze in the past -- but this guitar has been played and it is solid.

I contacted Cort to find out more about this guitar and they completely ignored me.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing almost 30 years and I am a trained luthier. This guitar was one of those pleasant surprises I bought on a whim. I couldn't find anything about it anywhere, and that irritates me so I wanted to see what it was like -- and then review it. I had expected something shoddy -- and instead got a really very well designed, solidly constructed, good sounding instrument. Way to go Cort.
