I've got a 2003 guitar. It has a solid spruce top and also a solid mahgony back. I think it's very rare to find a guitar at this price range that has a solid back. Also equipped with Fishman electronics. It's a Jumbo-like guitar. Great Satin finish! Over all, it's the most beautiful guitar i've seen in the past years!
When i've entered the guitar shop, I immediatly approached the Cort NTL20. It just "jumped" to my eyes due to its beauty!
It also came with Elixir strings.

Sound : 8
When i've played the guitar in the shop it sounded wonderfull! balanced tone, good bases, rich and full sound! I prefered its sound over the sound of other Tacoma guitars! I played guitars that cost twice as the cort, and not even close at the sound!
I bought it, asked for a NEW guitar, and got a guitar right from the box. when i took it home it had POOR sound! the sound was to bright to my taste! yuck...!
So, anyway, i've talked to some people and they told me that on solid guitar tops it can take some weeks/monthes for the guitar to "open" and reach its full potential. anyway, today, after a few months of playing i can tell you these:
1) The cort is very loud! It can fill a room just like a piano!
2) The guitar is very balanced! full rich sound! great mid-tone!
3) The tone is just bright! just fine!

for conclusion, i can say that i haven't played a guitar that cost less than 500$ and sound so loud, rich and full!

As for the Fishman electronics - PERFECT.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great action!
Great Finish!
Just like a 2000$ guitar!

Well, i surely recommend this guitar! its great sound, its beauty are all touched me!
Of course, i've played better guitars than that one, but all cost at least twice than the cort!
I think that you can buy this one with your eyes closed!

The previous reviewer (Paul 11/01) did an excellent review of this section. One thing I would add is that this guitar is very solid and has weight similar to the Taylor or Guild jumbo lines. The Grover tuners are Imperials and do an excellent job. Gold Rotomatics might enhance the "eye appeal", but the silver looks good! Shoppers should check www.cort.com for a good analysis of the design details.

This is where the Cort stands out most in this price range. I have played most of the major brands on the market; the Cort has the sound qualities of a Taylor or Larrivee! Very solid base tones and crisp bright highs make this an excellent choice for stage or studio. I have played it finger-style as well as flat-picked; both styles were excellent in tone and clarity.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Bought this one used, but it appears to be a factory set-up. Action is fairly low off the nut and remains low throughout the neck. Fretting is smooth and consistent. The finish is glassy smooth with a little abalone inlaying done on the head-stock and the fingerboard. This guitar looks VERY sharp at any price range!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Solid as a rock! This thing was built to last for a very long time. The scalloped bracing is superb. The base woods are choice materials with excellent bookmatching on the front and back. The strap button is well mounted for good pick-up contact with sound cords. The Fishman pickup is sweet with a five control EQ (bass, mid, high, tone(bright/mellow), and volume).

Haven't has to use them so far; frankly I don't expect to have to!!! Potential buyers should check Cort's website for info at www.cort.com.

I've been playing for 10 years. I've been playing mostly acoustics for the last 5 years, Martin's and Robelli's. I chose this Cort as my first "jumbo" style based on playing over a dozen jumbo's at Mar's and Guitar Center over a three month "audition period". The Cort can hold its own against any jumbo, or dreadnaught for that matter, below $2000. I don't let a headstock logo sell me on a guitar and neither should you. Look, listen, and let the guitar do the "talkin".

Made in Korea. Solid top and Back. Laminate mahogany sides.
Fishman pickup installed. Gloss top and satin neck. No cutaway. Rotomatic tuners very nice. The appearance of the guitar from the first is very good. The fit, materials, some abalone, trim and feel make this guitar worth considering from the start.

Sound : 7
Play a Taylor. Write down the price. Play this Cort. Look at the price for the comp. Taylor. They sound similar, with the Taylor taking the overall award for a more full and louder sound. But both can handle heavy strumming as well as delicate finger picking.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action seems a bit high from the saddle. I intend to have it taken in to see about lowering it. Th Fishman pickup is really nice. I also own an American made deep bowl Ovation Balladeer and the EQ in this Cort isn't as flashy, but is close. I didn't find any flaws in the construction worth mentioning.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar sounds very good on stage. With the Fishman EQ, feedback is non-existant and the controls are a breeze to work with. The tuners are Grover. Excellent. The finish is top notch to me. In fact, didn't notice any difference between the Taylor I had next to it. Strap button is just fine. Very dependable. Again, I compare this guitar to a jumbo Taylor.

This is one of the better guitars I've owned. As I play more live, I've been buying and then selling or trading like mad. I'm down to three. This Cort, my Ovation Balladeer and my Seagull 12 string, no pickup installed. For 419.00, and for the great tone, clarity and sustain, you can't go wrong. Comp. guitars would be the Takamine 330, at 419.00, the Martin oox1 (?) no pickup, around 400.00 or the Tacoma Chief. Again, around same price. As I play more guitars when I get to different music stores, the expensive acoustics seem to sit an awfully long time with no owners. The process of making a fine quality acoustic guitar these days has been terriffic for the buying public. Be frugal, and smart.
