The finish is vintage sunburst. The body style is Dreadnought. The tuners are Grover. The neck is sorta thinish. There's a rosewood fretboard on it. It didn't come with anything. Made in China, set up and inspected in the US. 20 frets. Solid top. Probably spruce. Not an AE guitar.

Sound : 8
It's very rich and full. It's a typical dreadnought. There's nothing really special about it though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Action was very high. The bridge and top are fine, but the bridge isn't compensated. Yuck. Other than that, everything was fine.

Reliability/Durability : 6
It seems pretty durable, but the action is so high that I don't think I would use it live because it can't do anything past the 5th fret until I get it set up somewhere, which I don't think is worth.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 6
It's okay, but for the price, you can probably get something a lot fancier. It's just a run of the mill acoustic dreadnought with no pickup and nothing fancy at all. Will probably have to get the thing set up. After that it would be nicer.

Transparent finish, advanced jumbo body style, gotoh tuners.
Made in 1999 in Korea, mahogany back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck and rosewood fret board
Onboard Fishman passive piezo pickup.

Sound : 8
I play mainly acoustic - fingerpicking, but I think this guitar gives the best of herself when played with a pick.
The sound is rich and full, I really like it..very good on mids and basses frequencies (the advanced jumbo body helps a lot), not too bright on trebles, which is exactly what I was looking for.
I also own a Maton 225, which I like very much indeed, but when I need to get a hard strum I get this one on and can't stop playing.
Even the piezo sounds really good and I can record directly through my Saffire with no need for preamps or equalizers.
I'd give it a 7.5. Really nice sound, considering the price range.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Great action and set-up..I bought it used and the tuners were replaced with gotoh (maybe original grover tuners weren't doing their job so fine).. so I can't tell how it came out of the factory.
Really no complaints at all about it.
Easy to play and, in my opionion, an amazingly beautiful look.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems like built like a tank and reliable.
I really take great care of my instruments though..

Customer Support : 10
No need so far.
Lifetime warranty. ;)

Been playing acoustics for 3 years. Been playing guitars since a long time ago. I own lots of acoustics, electrics, classical guitars.

This guitar was a big deal, since I got it for 180 euros used (kinda cheap here in italy).
I like it a lot and I feel like playing it all the time. i think i have a crush on her! :)

A great sounding guitar for the cost! I'd give a 9, excellent value at that price!

I think it's a 99, as I bought it in the summer of 2000. Made in Korea, set up shoddily in the US. Tuners are sealed and grover-like, but they seem stable for being cheapies. AJ body style, and a vintage sunburst finish that has actually aged quite well, as the nasty gloss it had at first (a bit shiny for my tastes) has dulled in a way that compliments the sunburst. Not much else to say that hasn't been said already here..Just six strings, a chunk of wood and an empty box.

Sound : 6
Truth be told, I was looking for a two-hundred and below acoustic so that I could learn some acoustic Neil Young. To my ear, this guitar sounded the best of the guitars in its price range of $250 and below that were at the store. The sound was quite tinny in the mids and highs, and had precious little Martin thump. Never ran it through a pickup. However, after seven years, the tinniness has disappeared, leaving a warm woody tone--but with a mid to high voicing with little bass. Even so, it sounds much better now for both fingerstyle and picking. It even seems as though the sustain is much better as well--single note lines are no problem. But if you're looking for Neil Youngisms, look further.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
High action. It went to my tech first thing. Mainly because the bridge was as high as Keith Richards. Other than that, not so bad.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Never had occassion to use it on stage, but it has taken a beating as a songwriting tool, camping accessory, and drunken wankstick at three in the morning. It's only broken once--that being when my bastard half-brother cranked the piss out my tuners and cracked the bridge. Got it fixed. It's ok. My two-year old daughter also gets to take shots at this guitar. It's taken more than it's fair share, so I do have a grudging respect for it.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 6
Been playing seriously for eight years. Have plenty of electrical guitars, effects, and amps--some vintage and spendy, some pawn shop treasures, and some stuff that was once simply ok until I pimped it out. Only own one other acoustic--a Martin of some sort that I bought used. This guitar was worth what I paid for it. And it's tone has aged well--I've even taken it to my monthly Wall O' Martins bluegrass/jazz workouts. It managed to hold its own in that environment, so it can't be all bad.

Bought in 2003 from Musician's Friend. Close out deal for $99. Man, I love closeout deals. It's a pretty standard dreadnought, and other's have described it's features, mahogany back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck and rosewood fret board. Unlike others. mine did not come with a scond strap button, which I would've liked, but I'll live. Grover tuners, which I was surprised at, work superbly. amd I for one, like the foil "e" on the pickguard, I guess I'm a sucker for shiny things.

Sound : 10
Oh my, its one of the nicest sounding acoustics I've played in the price range. And just as nice as some more expensive ones. It is seriously a good sounding guitar. I've since played other beginner and similarly priced models, and still think this one sounds better.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The finish is stunning. I'm a sucker for sunburst guitars, and this one is beautiful. The binding is good, fret ends aren't too shabby. The Nut is fully functional and not too tight or too lose. The factory set up was horrendous though. The saddle was just way too high, and it needed to be sanded down. I took off at least 2mm and loosened the truss rod (didn't have enough bow for my taste, infact, it had none), but I think I'm still gonna take it into the shop and see if they can lower it more. it loses points for the bad set up. But wins for the finish.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I'm kinda clumsy when it comes to handling guitars. They're always bumping against something or other. This guy seems solid enough.

limited lifetime warranty. Never had to deal with epi....

Overall Rating : 8
Fantastic value. I love it. I might've opted for the A/E one, but alas for $99 I have no complaints. All it needed was a good set up and it was ready to go. It really is a superb guitar for the money.

I just bought this instrument brand spankin' new in 2003. The guitar was made in China, but don't let that disuade you. The Chinese are fine craftsmen and their workmanship is reflected in this guitar. It was set up and tested in the US before being sent to the distributor. This guitar has all of the features that one would expect to find on a good quality dreadnought; solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. The tuners are chrome Grovers and they work beautifully, nice and smooth.

Sound : 10
I cannot get over the sound of this guitar. I'm playing mostly for myself these days or at informal jams, so it suits me just fine. The lower strings are full and deep and the uppers have very nice projection.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It played well right out of the box. No buzzing, great intonation throughout the neck. There was one small (< 1mm) dimple in the finish on the back, and the Epiphone "E" which was glued to the pick guard fell off immediately. I wouldn't complain about either. If Epiphone really cared, they would inlay or print their logo on the pickguard.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Having just purchased this guitar, I can't say how it will hold up. It does seem to be made well enough to stand the pressures of a smoke filled bar. Actually smoking will be banned in all bars in my state in a few months, so this guitar should live a nice long healthy life.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Limited lifetime warranty, which is incredible considering the price.

I have been playing on and off since 1967, but mostly electric. This is only my second accoustic. (my other instruments are a 1967 Fender Mustang, a 1971 Ovation hollow body electric, a ZETA JV5 violin, and several accoustic violins) When my son sat on my old Harmony and rendered it kindling about 10 years ago, I gave up playing guitar. I have played Guilds, Ovations, and Gibsons in the past and this guitar is a match for any of them. I would venture to say that 30 years ago, you could not buy a guitar this good for twice the price. As far as I know, Epi is no longer making the AR-15, so if this one is stolen (or sat on), I'd have to start looking again from scratch, otherwise I'd buy another in a flash.

Pretty basic Jumbo Dread. 1998 Model made in Korea. Laminated top, nice wood. Triangle neck (hate the thing). Very high action when bought but fixed that.

Sound : 8
Put a set of Martin 11's on it and hold on to your ears! Very thick lows but the highs are tinny. Mids are at home on this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Bridge separated from the neck the day after I brought it home. Dealer sent it to Epi and they repaired it. Looks better the 2nd time around. Looks Awesome, excellent finish, very tight(except the bridge).

Reliability/Durability : 9
Other than the bridge fiasco, this beast can take a hit as well as deliver one! Very tight and well built...kinda like Jenna J.

Customer Support : 10
Fixed it up lickity split. Industry standard warranty.

Overall Rating : 7
Been playing for 3 years and this is the only accoustic I've owned. I'm a lefty and there's not much of a choice of well made accoustics for us (unless you break the bank for a Martin). Have a 96 Epi Les Paul Standard which I love, and a Team faux strat.

Korea. 1999. 20 frets, 14 playable. Spruce Top, Mahogany back sides neck, rosewood fretboard. Advanced Jumbo body. Finishes: Natural, Ebony, Vintage Sunburst. Chrome Hardware. Nice solid tuners with epi icons. Cool pickguard with engraved epi icon. TWO strap buttons!!!! (most acoustics only come with one).

Sound : 9
This guitar sounds full, rich, and just wonderful. I'm a songwriter/singer, so my musicianship isn't that great, but I can tell you this is a great jumbo for any music style. It's so playable, the body is so big and glorious, you'll love playing it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything came great. No flaws at all. Mine was a vintage sunburst, and it looks really good. It looks just like a Gibson J-160E, which costs, oh, 16 times as much as this one.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar seems to be able to last a while, and if it doesn't, you''ve got the lifetime warranty. Hey, it's basically made by the fine folks at Gibson, and they don't make shit. Did I mention the two strap buttons? They are great. Finish looks solid.

Customer Support : 10
The lifetime warranty is hard to beat.

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar. I mean, I just love it to death. It' sounds, looks, feels, and plays exceptionally. The hardware and finish are all great, and for the price it seems like I was cheating Epiphone! This one is gonna last for a while.

Purchased it new in January 2000...could be a 99" model. Made in Korea, set up and inspected in USA.
Hardware Chrome Scale 25.5" Nut Width 1.68" Neck Joint Set Neck Material Mahogany Fingerboard Rosewood/Dot Binding Body Body Material Mahogany Top Select Spruce Also Available Piezo/Para EQ; Left-handed; 12-string Finishes Ebony, Natural, Vintage Sunburst
There's the specs right from Epiphone. This one happens to be natural finish without the optional pickups.

Sound : 10
Sounds nice and rich. The AJ series is designed to have a richer sound than a normal dreadnaught, and also for more volume and projection. I like the "Advanced Jumbo" sound better than traditional acoustics.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Came to me in tune with a good set of strings. Played nice straight out of the box. This one was a "2nd" for some cosmetic reason, and despite looking far and wide for it, It looks perfect to me. I have no clue why they called it a second, but I will take the discount!

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar wasn't made for brutal abuse, but under normal use, it should last a lifetime. I think this guitar is well made and built to last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Epi has the lifetime warranty... It doesn't get much better. Gibson/Epiphone support their products well according to the sellers. All my Gibson/Epi playing friends havn't needed to use the warranty.

Overall Rating : 9
I bought this as a first guitar. I am truly a drummer at heart, but I wanted to get a guitar to write with. I really like the tonality of the AJ series. If I were to replace it, I may go for one of the "big brother" A/E Advanced Jumbos. I'm very satisfied with this guitar.
