Ok, this is a cutaway with a solid spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck. It's a sharp looking guitar for it's price point, very shiny from the glossy overcoat. It has a Fishman classic 4t pickup system with a built in tuner, your controls are Bass, Mid, Treble, Brilliance and Volume. This is the same system that you find on Martins from a much higher price bracket. For my 300 dollars, this is friggin sweet!

Sound : 9
I am in 2 bands, one plays jam band stuff like Phish and the other is a cover band that does all the pop stuff like Jack Johnson. It suits both styles to a T. Unplugged, it has a very full sound for a cutaway and a really sweet high end shimmer that you would find on something like a Taylor. Plugged in, you can get any sound you want with the built in EQ. The only thing I was it had was a little more bass response, but number 1, it's a cutaway, and number 2...it's only 300 bucks! Great sound!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This may be my only qualm. The strings were a tad bit too high for my liking, but that was easily taken care of with a minor truss rod adjustment. I also changed the strings from 12's to 11's which made it alot easier to play. Apart from that, everything seems to have been put together well. There is a little blemish where the neck joins the body, but it is very insignificant and no cause for concern.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I just purchased the guitar about two weeks ago so I have not had a chance to take it out on a gig yet. But I have played it pretty much non stop since I got it and once again, everything seems to be put together very well with quality parts.

Haven't had o go there yet...

I am mainly an electric player (PRS CST 22, Fender Strat) and I needed an acoustic that sounded great plugged in and unplugged, and that wouldn't break the bank. This guitar is all of those things. I am very satisfied with it and it may be a long while before I look for another acoustic. Kudos to Fender for making a great instrument that anyone can afford.

2007 Fender CD-140-SCE - updating my previous review. I've had the guitar now for about 10 months and I'm still loving it. I give it a 10 in every category here.
It's a made in china single cutaway flattop with a Fishman preamp/pickup/tuner/EQ. It's got a solid, bookmatched spruce top, mahogany ply back and sides. The neck is mahogany with a beautiful rosewood fretboard, 21 medium-ish fretsfrets. It's a breeze to play, keeps its tune and has an awesome sound. The finish is incredible, the guitar is nicely finished off inside and out.

Sound : 10
This axe has a Martin-ish sound, but it's also got a real Fender sound. It's crisp, clear, bright, full-bodied with great low end. The Fishman pickup is awesome - the controls are all very effective and it's a breeze to dial in a great sound no matter what the P/A is set on.
I gigged this guitar about three months after I bought it - and I got some great comments on the sound and the look of it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action had to be adjusted a bit before I took it home, but it's stayed perfect ever since - I check it with feeler guages once in a while. The overall finish of the guitar is amazing at this price level and considering it was made in China. The bridge, nut, saddle, neck, tuners, Pickup/preamp are all excellent and rock solid. It stays in tune without a worry - and holds its tune overnight without breaking a sweat.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've played this axe on stage and it didn't let me down. I changed the 9 volt battery in the preamp and changed the strings before I took it on stage, "just in case." It did very well. I got a lot of positive comments on the guitar. The hardware is all pretty bulletproof, the finish is rock hard and shiny like a cadet's boots. I put a set of Dunlop strap lock buttons on it and my Levy's suede strap (I had to put the tail strap button next to the old one because the old one is also the output jack - I put the neck end strap button in the heel of the neck itself, works well there.)
I'd now bet quite a bit on this guitar after playing it for almost a year.

Customer Support : 10
Fender customer support is awesome, I dealt with them concerning my Fender Mexican Strat and they were very helpful. It came with a 1 year manufacturers warranty and Musicstip offers their own warranty that covers everything, including setups for $10 a year for as many years as you'd like. (Musicstop is an Atlantic Canadian chain - now owned by Long & McQuade).

I can't rave enough about this guitar. I love it every time I pick it up. I bought this after a full-physical exam for my application to the RCMP. I had travelled 500 km the day before, had to fast for 12 hours prior to the physical and blood work. There was also a psychological exam that day that took almost four hours. I went all day without eating due to the schedule of the testing. So I saw the Musicstop sign in Bedford, Nova Scotia on the way home and stopped in. I had been shopping for guitars for almost a year and this one caught my eye, I picked it up and hit a couple open chords and decided to rape my bank card to cheer myself up. It's kept on working! I love the guitar every time I pick it up and if it were lost or stolen, I'd go out and replace it as soon as I could. I'd never "need" a better guitar.

IT'S a 2007 - bought new - made in China. Natural colour with a mile-deep gloss finish on the body and headstock plate - satin finish on the neck. Solid bookmatched spruce top, mahogany ply back and sides, rosewood fretboard. It's a 20-fret dreadnought with a cutaway and a Fishman "piezo" pickup, equalizer and tuner. The neck scale seems shorter than average, but has a nice profile and is a breeze to play. The keys are smooth and secure.

Sound : No Opinion
This guitar has a bright, crisp, clean, accurate, smooth, balanced sound. I mainly play country, folk and acoustic rock - thus far this axe can do them all very well. I intend to gig this guitar at a small venue in the next month or so. The Fishman pickup has a pre-amp and the controls are very effective. Controls include a three-band equalizer, "brilliance" control and master volume.
So far, I'm completely satisfied with the sound for the price I paid.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The neck needed a small adjustment (too much relief) before I took it home. Other than that, string changes and tuning are smooth. The intonation stays right on and it holds its tune for days on its stand.
All the details are there... The finish is bright and shiny! The colours all match nicely. The only detail I'm not crazy about is the pickguard - I might replace it with a solid black one as opposed to the tortoise pickguard it came with.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I haven't gigged it yet, but I intend to and I believe it'll do just fine. The tuners, strap buttons, bridge, bridge pegs, nut, saddle, pickup and pre-amp are all solid, well-located and seem to be of higher-than-average quality for this price range. My only complaint here is that the tail strap button is also the jack and there's no front strap button... this is a common issue, though.
I don't know it well enough to bet my life on it, but I'm going to gig it with only my Strat as a backup...

Customer Support : 8
I'm always impressed with the service and support at Musicstop (Atlantic Canadian chain recently bought by Long & McQuade). I've never had to deal directly with Fender, but I haven't heard any bad reviews on thier customer service.
The guitar comes with a one-year warranty on manufacturing defects from Fender. For about $15 CAD, Musicstop/Long & McQuade offers an unlimited warranty to include setups for as long as you own the guitar.

I've been playing 8 years. I have an 8-year-old Yamaha F-310 which has proven itself to be an incredible workhorse (beach guitar) for the money. I also have a Fender Std. Strat.
I shopped for about a year before I bought this. I made the decision very quickly when I saw the finish, heard it and then saw the price tag. At $400, this is a great guitar for the money. To be frank, I prefer the sound and materials to the Martin DX series... There's real wood in this one!
I like the look, the sound, the feel and the price. I don't like the fact that it's not a D-35, but I'm getting there!
The only thing this axe lacks is a set of quick-release strap buttons and the hardshell case came at an extra $70. (Total price with tax was %550 CAD).
Fender wins again!
