Fender DG-20S Acoustic

Solid spruce top. Manufactured in Korea, nice looking guitar, decent tuners (I very rarely have to tune it,)25.3 scale, 20 fret, 6 string dreadnaught.

Excellent , rich and full sound, can be nice and loud, and can give some great sounds on the power chords. honestly seems to be getting better the longer I own it (or maybe thats my playing???).
Also feel it is important to note what a great variety of sounds you can get out of it, excellent for rock, folk, regea, funk anything really.

Excellent set up, perfect from the first time I picked it up, not a single flaw, Excellent value for ??110.

I have owned and played it hard for over 3 years and although it has got the odd scratch here and there, it actually feels and plays better than when I bought it! I would not have any problem giggin it, and it is my sole acoustic guitar as I feel I can depend on it 100%. Incredible value for money.

I have not had a single problem with this guitar, and therefore cannot comment on service, but I must add that the fact that I have not had any issues over 3 years speaks volumes about the quality of the guitar!

I have been playing for around 6 years, and heaven forbid if this guitar was ever stolen, I would hunt down the thief, get my guitar back, then use it as a club to teach him a lesson (it really does feel that solid!.

I work as a credit controller, and therefore spend most of my spare time playing this thing and I really do feel this guitar is amazing value for money. I have had several electric guitars since I started playing 6 years ago, and have continually changed them over the years because I am hard to please, yet this is only my second acoustic and I don't ever feel bored with it and honestly feel will be my sole acoustic for many years to come (bar a spanish guitar I have got my eye on!)

My favourite thing about the guitar is the heavy sound you can get when banging on some power chords, or the sweet tones you can get when doing some finger picking.

Have owned this guitar, well over a year now and play it every day. The solid spruce top is starting to open up with deeper richer tone and its going to get even better over the next few years. Still loud and good sustain. Use Martin Bluegrass 80/20 strings. It sits on a guitar stand, handy when I feel like playing. Also use it as my bluegrass jam guitar.

Replaced plastic saddle and bridge pins with compensated bone saddle and ebony bridge pins. Gloss finish is thick, so its taking time to open up. Thining the bracing with sand paper, every time I change strings.

Solid guitar, stays in tune. Very dependable! Not afraid to haul it around and use it.

Warranty won't do me much good since I modified the bracing.

Very tight and straight grain solid spruce top. Bought this guitar as a project to improve and then sell. Sounding too good, I think I'll keep it.

Probably made in 2003 in Korea. Hard to tell, not much information on their acoustics available from Fender. As described, it's a slightly shallow dreadnought body, solid spruce top and mahogany laminate back and sides; nato-mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Fender generic tuners. Dot inlays on fretboard. A nice-looking guitar with good grain in the spruce and a nice booking (if plywood can be called book matched) on the back.

I rarely play this anymore; I got it when I decided to learn acoustic guitar, and this was my "learner." I chose it over a DG-21S (pretty mcuh the same guitar in rosewood) because I preferred the more controllable bass and more defined mid-range of the 20S. No exraneous noises that I can detect, loud or soft, flat-picked or finger-picked, or strummed.

It sounds good for everything I play: folk, country, pop, and rock. I think it sounds muted, as you should expect from a laminate body, but the notes sound clearly and the chords sound the way they should - and on an ocilloscope they are easily recogized as the note and chord you're playing. IMHO, that's the most important result you can ask for from any guitar at any price.

There are no external flaws: the inlays were well-fitted, the bridge is tight to the top, the tuners work just fine. Inside, there's glue showing and a curious bit of material that looked like cheesecloth but appeared to be white glue when I removed it. The braces show some fuzz that should have been sanded better.

The fretwork is fine, no rough edges or tops that I can detect. The nut and saddle are correct. The bridge is correctly aligned and secure. The action is high enough and hard enough to make well-worn fingers sore, and that seems to be a characterisitc of the setup on Fender's acoustics.

It is durable; far more so than more expensive and delicate acoustics. The tuners seem solid but a bit fast (I don't believe they are 18:1, but I never checked. The finish is unmarked even where the pick marks on the pickguard show that I probably hit the finish, too. The strap button can getloose, and it popped-out a couple of times when I was removing the strap - but it stays tight while I am using it. I'm mindful of it when I shift the guitar or taking it off.

I wouldn't try to do a paid performance with this guitar. It sounds fine when amplified, but it plays hard and that wears my left hand out.

Playing for 14 years, added acoutics 2 years ago. I own Fender and Gibson electrics and a Gibson acoustic. If it were lost I wouldn't replace it now, but when I bought it I would have immediately replaced it.

I like that it sounds very accurate, very neutral but capable of strong, clear bass and of brightness in higher registers. When you are learning, it helps when the sound is correct and balanced. Not that this is ONLY a learner's guitar, because if it were my only acoutic guitar, I would have had the action adjusted and fitted to me. But I compared this to many, many other guitars in all price ranges below $2500, and this had the most neutral sound, without bias towards high-, mid- or low-range. It is very accuracy and allowed me to get used to the sound of an acoutic guitar and be able to choose the next guitar based on what sound I wanted to produce.

Someone commented that "If you can play this guitar cleanly, you can play anything." and I agree. You can't be lazy or sloppy on this guitar with the factory setup and get clean sound from it and IMHO that makes it a very good guitar to learn on. Adjust the action, and it would be a very good guitar to keep.

Nice Spruce top! Tuners actually hold tight, body has a warm glow and is finished very nicely.

Sounds like a dream, very warm and rich throughout the tonal spectrum.
Excellent sustain, no fret buzz at all. The only improvment I can think of is to install Ivory pins, Saddle and nut, (coming soon).

I got the Guitar used and the Neck was Cracked at the body. I removed the strings, applied some carpenders glue and "applied traction". 24 hours later the repair was finished, almost invisible and is holding tight after 6 months. The action was a little high, so I shaved the saddle and replaced the strings with a light guage Martin Phosphor Bronze. It plays better than new!

The Original owner commented that he used Heavy guage strings and that his wife over-tightened them as a "Joke" that explained the crack!

Havent had a problem yet!

I felt kinda guilty for getting something this nice (repairs in mind) for such a low price. I figure the work was worth effort and I'm not gonna sell it as originally planned, it's my little treasure.

Loud with good sustain and richer tone, now that I made a bone saddle and installed Martin SP strings. With the plastic saddle and Fender strings, it was too tight and sounded like it was in a barrel.
A tin sound! Also had a shim under the saddle. Before I worked on this guitar, I would give it a 6 for sound. Now I give it an 8 and it will get better with age.

Plastic nut and saddle. Replaced with bone.
Guitar is well made no flaws.

Bought this guitar because of the tight grain solid spruce top and the price.

drednought body style, 20 frets, solid-spuce top, mahogany fretboard, it a good looking guitar I think. The features are good enough for me.

I play all music from hendrix to eric clapton to ac/dc. When you fingerpick on this guitar it gives off a rich, warm sound which i love. Play some power chords and you get a nice bright sound that suits your music perfectly. The guitar is very versatile and has a great sound for the money. 10!

This guitar is set up great. I havn't had to change anything. The action is perfect for me, maybe it could be a little lower but its good for me. The tuners are fine and do what they're supposed to do, nothing amazing. The finish on this guitar is great and nothing peels off.

My guitar has taken a beeting and I havn't found any dents. You could use this guitar at a gig. I only take a gig bag with it and the guitar has remained in perfect condition. You could definately depend on this guitar for many years.

First thing i noticed out of the box was how loud and how long it resonated.

Action setup was great for me, i had been playing a guitar that required a capo on the first fret to lower height(old and cheap)so this was a real welcome change. Barre chords were definatley easier to keep buzz free.

This sucker look solid to me. Wont' be playing live any time soon but based on what i have seen and heard so far i would trust it.

Shipped to me pretty quickly and was packaged really well but haven't had to make a call to the complaint department yet. Will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Been playing for 2 years. The color of this guitar is awesome , i wasn't exactly sure of what the color would look like, man was i happy. The back and sides are like a rich honey color. Haven't played many other guitars, but it sounds just as good as the $700 Taylor i played in the local music joint.Would definately recommend this guitar for anyone interested in the price range. I would buy this guitar again tomorrow if it was stolen or busted.

The guitar just sounds so nice. It has a nice full, rich sound. Sounds exactly what an acoustic should sound like.

The factory setup was suprisingly good. Action is a little high but not bad at all. I won't bother changing it till I change strings. There is absolutely no buzzing. I got the guitar, tuned it and I was ready to play.

I am not sure about the reliability, although the guitar doesn't seem as well constructed as some previous acoustics I have had. It is a new guitar so I can't rate this part as of now.

I don't know, I haven't needed to deal with them and I hope I won't need to.

This is a great guitar for the price. It is certainly better than others you would find in that price range. From the moment I got the guitar, it was ready to play. I didn't need a setup. The guitar just has such a beautiful sound. If you are looking for an acoustic in the $240-300 price range then I recommend going with this guitar.

1998 square-shouldered, solid-top 20-fret drednaught made in Korea. Natural finish only. The neck has a truss rod that can be adjusted from inside the sound hole. The standard chrome (non-locking) tuners that it came with actually work perfectly well, and are among the few of my guitars' I haven't had to change.

I play picky-strummy rock and country-rock originals with this guitar. The sound is well balanced, and though typically a bit boomy as dreds tend to be, records fabulously. Bright but full top end, "clarinet-like" midrange and substantial yet defined lows. I just today tried some Martins, Taylors, and Gibsons at the local Guitar Center and realized that this inexpensive Fender sounds just almost as good if not better than many of the $2000 guitars I auditioned! Having said that, the guitar has a very slight boxiness somewhere in the mids, and the top doesn't have the harmonic sheen that high-end Taylors and Martins have. But this is being very critical, and the boxiness doesn't show up at all in recordings with other instruments. The lack of sheen probably causes it to recede somewhat in a rock mix, however.

Much classier workmanship than the price would suggest, and certainly no glaring flaws. You can see a little of the glue on the inside, but so what? The action was a little high for my tendonitis-wrenched hands, so I lowered it. It still doesn't play quite as effortlessly as some guitars I've tried, perhaps because of the neck shape, but that might just be me.

I've had it five years without any problems. I don't play live, but it seems like a workhorse that would stand up pretty well under constant use as long as it was kept in a hardshell case.

I've been playing since 1998, about when I got this guitar. I own a Gibson Les Paul Classic, Fender Strat, Tele, PRS CE24, Guild Starfire, Esteve classical, and so on. The DG-20S is just about equal to any of my guitars, especially in terms of sound, and particularly for recording. I have never regretted buying it, though if it got smashed (or if I got smashed enough) I'd get a Martin HD-35 or something expensive for a change, and to get the slight improvement in sound (for six times as much money). For a relatively cheap guitar, the DG-20S is an exceptional find and arguably up to professional standards.

I play mostly fingerstyle blues, jazz, and classical, and this guitar handles them all splendidly. I can't believe I paid only $300 for this instrument, and ended up with a guitar that rivals a top of the line Martin or Gibson. Fully balanced tone from low to high, and I especially loved the near flawless intonation it came with from the factory. Depending on how close you play to the bridge or neck, this guitar will produce any acoustic sound you're after. I've played the hell out of it for about a year, and I can't say I've ever enjoyed a guitar more than this one.

Very good action (maybe I just got lucky.) Outstanding craftsmanship throughout the guitar. Beautiful gloss finish over what looks like a pretty exensive selection of spruce and mahagony. Not a flashy looking guitar by any means, but hey, you can't play flash. Again, I can't believe I only paid $300 for this guitar. I actually felt guilty walking out of the store with it.

This guitar is built to take it, and if I were a working musician, I'd make it my main axe with no back-up in a blink. Nice tough finish that certainly hasn't worn off with my lose fingerstyle and picking styles. For what I paid for this guitar, I wouldn't be afraid to take it into a sleaze pit, and if it got broken, I'd buy another one without hesitation.

Fender wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire in their parking lot. I've only tried to deal with them once over a poorly constructed telecaster back in the 70s. Maybe they've changed since then, but all I remember is a lot of stalling, unreturned calls, and a receptionist with the I.Q. of dryer lint.

I chose this guitar because of it's sound. I was prepared to pay top dollar for a high end Martin when I walked into the music store, and almost passed this guitar by. I tried a few Martins, a few Gibsons, and out of curiosity tried the Fender. I couldn't believe me ears. I had to go back to the Martins just to double check, and there was no doubt that this Fender was out-playing them in terms of it's wonderfully balanced sound.

Factory set-up was great, action was perfect.

This isn't a fancy guitar by any means. With dot fretboard inlays, and one choice of colors (natural), it keeps the look of a simple acoustic guitar. But a close look over the smooth grain of the spruce top and the bright gold speckles of the mahogany sides and back, and you can't help but to notice the beauty of the wood. My guitar has no noticable flaws, but for a guitar in this price range, I would assume that I must have been very lucky. I could be wrong.

In the year that i've had it i've had no trouble at all with this guitar, and it has a very solid feel to it. I would feel completely comfortable relying on this guitar for a gig with no back up. The strat button, altough plastic, is solid.

limited lifetime warranty, backing manufaturers defects. I dont think i'm gonna need it.

i would buy this guitar again if it got stepped on or something.
in comparing the guitar to others in the store and with friends' guitars (for sound alone) this thing held its own against some 500+ dollar guitars, and sounded better than any of the other 300 dollar guitars that the store had.

for 300 dollars, this guitar has an awesome sound.

Solid-top, 20 frets, Acoutic no electronics. Spruce top, mahogany back and sides and nato neck with rosewood fret board. Natural Gloss finish, it has a couple of blemishes in the stain one on the neck where it joins the body a dark spot of stain and on the top above the sound hole toward the neck just above the low E string it looks like a water spot. Other wise the guitar is beautiful. It's a dreadnaught, chrome tuners. Nothing included with purchase. I would give it a ten but the two blemishes in the finish prevents me.

It suits me fine. I play Contemp Christain worship, Vineyard and Kingsway stuff. I use with a Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp and Dean Markley Pro-Mag. It sounds beautiful with the amp or by it self. It has a rich full sound and the highs ring and bass booms. I really enjoy this guitar. I like the sound better than my friends Larivee D-1 and my Epiphone Pr-250S and the Mitchell solid top I use to have. I like the sound and feel of the D'addario Phospher Bronze Light strings the best.

The setup was little high for me. I took it in and after they performed a setup for me it is great. In the store I got a little buzzing when paying moderate but after setup no buzzing at all. Everything looks great and sounds great. I checked the fretboard all up and down the neck no buzzing.

I think this guitar can stand up to about any thing. For the price it is a great guitar. Everything is solid.

I've been playing about 14 months I love it. I owe a Epiphone Pr-250S and a Fender Acoustasonic Jr amp and a Dean Markley Pro-Mag pickup. It sounds very nice amplified and not.

20 Frets, Solid Spruce Top, no electronics, Gloss Natural Finish on a Dreadnought body. (Only a 9 because they should make more acoustics in tobbaco sunburst)

I play stuff like Lynard Skynard, Collective Soul, Live, Eric Clapton, and Guns n' Roses. This guitar is perfect for any style of music. Solo's and finger picking sound especially nice. My only complaint about the sound is it has too much bass when you're trying to record with a mic, but that's the problem with all drednaughts I've played. I've played Guild drednaughts that can't beat it.

It had THE WORST factory setup I've ever seen. I didn't play it much for a month untill I changed the strings, raised the bridge on the treble side with little peices of cardboard and lowered the action. I plays perfect now except for buzzing on the 13th fret on the second string which I've been told can't be fixed without leveling the frets. With a little adjustments it's perfect now. No flaws.

Very reliable, and very well made. People say Fender can't make good acoustics, but they're the best made for anywhere neer the price. Anything Fender makes is a really solid insturment, I checked out a handmade Canadian-made acoustic that wasn't neerly as well made as this one.

Never had to deal with them. (one thing I should mention is that it's in perfect condition, but I can only get less than half the price for trade in... Why, I don't know)

Awesome sound. For around $500 you just can't find anything that sounds better. This guitar has such a bright and vibrant sound it's incredible. I play a lot of blues and Dave Matthew's band and this guitar is awesome for whatever sound you're going for.

Everything is great, but the best word I can use to describe the action is tough. But the sound more than makes up for it. If you were to learn on this guitar, anything you go to after would be a piece of cake. The actual finish is beautiful. The solid spruce top and the mahogany sides and back are a beautiful combination. There are also some nice detail work around the back and front.

Had it for around 3 years now and it's still perfect. I've played the hell out of it too! It still looks like it's new. If one were to take proper care of this guitar it would last forever.

I've been playing for about 3 years now but according to those around me I sound like I've been playing all my life. I've played so much in the past few years you can't even comprehend. I've played this guitar the entire time and it's still perfect. It only sounds better with age. I also own a fender strat with 15" TOA amp and a squire champ amp. This acoustic guitar is my baby though. If it were stolen I would buy it again, but I might consider moving up in price to a Martin. This is an awesome guitar though, especially for what it costs. The action is a notch short of greatness, but the sound is just magnificent.

Has an absolute priceless sound for it's price. Very loud, clear, sound like in concert. I have Martin GoldLine Plus electronics installed in it and it sounds absolutely perfect. I couldn't have found a better guitar within the next $500 up.

I was suprised with the action when I got it from the factory, i expected that I had to lower it but it was actually just right. I could have lowered it but that would damage the tone and sound. The guitar contained no flaws from the factory

Everything on the guitar is really solid. I expect to have it for a life time. It sounds better as it ages.

The guitar lists for $450 but I got it discounted at $350. I would like it if this guitar came in black but it only comes in natural, oh well. If it were stolen, I would definitely but it again. I compared it to acoustic guitars from Ibanez, Epiphone, Guild, Seagull, and Ovation and for the price, it came way over the top. I've been playing for about a year now and also own an Epiphone Les Paul and a Marshall amp (VS100R). I love the sound that I get out of it, rich and full, not to mention, LOUD! The Nato neck gives it sort of a "different feel". Less slippage then mahogany, but let's you move freely upon it. It's like, if you press hard on the Nato, it holds, if you press lightly, it let's you slide. Overall, I absolutely LOVE this guitar.
