Manufactured in Indonesia for Fender between 1995 and 1998.
20 Frets (14 away from the neck)with Nato top, Mahogany back and sides.. Rosewood fingerboard & chrome plated tuners.
Strictly on the class of guitar and money paid, I'm giving it an 8 relative to other similarly priced models. For $200 and under - this is an attractive guitar with functional features and little fanfare.

While my music taste is all over the place, I'm inclined to play subdued James Taylor, Dead, Phish, with some country/blues mixed in... The guitar holds-up well enought that a decent tech can rub-out all the vibes that creep-up from time to time. Tuners are surprisingly effective and the guitar does have good bass response. Good for my style of playing.

Finish was surprisingly good.. The guitar has a satin finish and a rich cherry/mahogony tone that will require a little more care than a guitar with a heavy gloss finish... But it is really unique and subdued... The frets could have used a little more attention before leaving the shop.. But a light buffing pulled-out all of the snags and made for a smoother play.

Probably wouldn't gig with this guitar simply because the finish is so unique.. With respect to overall durability.. I've had this guitar for 3 years and it is a sound as day 1.. granted, I store it well and clean it as required... But mechanically it holds-up well.

Playing for about 4 years now.. I have a Yamaha DG and can honestly say that this guitar is a lessor instrument - but I still favor it for its subtle looks... It is a good backup... and/or beggining guitar... Too bad Fender stopped producing it.

With new strings, it sounds like an angel singing. It does stay in tune pretty well though!

The frets are really rough on the ends. The little E used to actually get snagged if you hit it hard enough, but I took a file to it and solved that problem. The neck is pulling away from the body, and the plastic bridge is ready to break any day now. The wooden thing on the actual body of the guitar is pulling away from it, and a brace inside of it is loose. Because of this loose brace, the top squeaks a lot. There is no reason for this. I always keep it away from extreme heat/cold and it stays in its case.

I've had this guitar for 6-7 years, and although it isnt perfect, it has been good to me. I dont gig, but if I did, I wouldnt take it out of the case.

This was my first guitar just to get my feet wet. I played it everyday for a long time, started to take lessons, and then got pissed. Lessons forced me to learn at a faster rate than I can handle, so I put it down for a couple years. I finally picked it back up 2 years ago and have been playing strong ever since. Im ready to upgrade, and this guitar is getting traded in. It has 2 more weeks under my care, then I don't care what happens to it.

Was made about 6 years ago in Indonesia...20 frets with a solid top. No pickups on this guitar. Body style is dreadnought....neck is rosewood.

Music style...it has a nice bright sound. I wouldn't necessarily say full..but with a new set of strings it brings out what a guitar should really sound like. I love the sound. But its kind of hard to play the dificult cords.

It has a poor job of glueing the neck onto the body. Yes, the guitar had some flaws straight from the factory. The wood was not top grain.

It is a great guitar for basic use and the hardware seems to withstand everyday use. The finish is very stable and does not wear. I can depend on it too. I would use it on a gig without a pickup.

It makes a really good and bright voice. I changed strings soon after I bought it. With good strings this guitar sounds bright and clear.

The string adjusting screws (I don`t know if there is some other names) were untight and badly off from the neck. I fixed it.

Very Excellent Begginers Guitar! The sound can be kind of dull. After three years of abuse (not to bad) it has some buzzing problems on the high E and on other select frets. I really like the crod progression sounds on this guitar. Finger picking is all right, but rather stiff. Overall fairly decent.

Excellent straight out of the box. The frets wern't harsh except after 14 were it fades. Finish is lacking, gets dirty real quick, and the more you clean the more those irritating imperfections show.

Straight Up: I have beat the hell out of this guitar, though not on purpose. (it's my first one what do you expect!)It still stays in tune, with minamal neck problems.

This is the first guitar I've ever owned. Teaching myself to play, though I can read music due to mandatory piano lessons as a child. I looked at other guitars on the internet and didn't know any of the brands. I love the fact that I own a Fender. Now, hopefully I'll love playing it.

it's a mid 90's made in Indonesia drednought. 14 frets clear of the body, all satin finished nato (close relative of mahogany) laminated top, sides, and back. Rosewood fingerboard. Plastic, chrome plated tuners.
Sound

It's very quiet. Poor sustain. Decent bass response, but lacking brightness. Comapred to others in this price range, it's not too bad.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Action was checked by a shop before I ever played it, so the action was fine. The tuners are uneven, but hold tune well. The fingerboard is blotchy. The frets are poorly finished at the ends, and snag my hand. The satin finish looks great when it's real clean, but it gets ugly real fast (picks up oils from your skin, etc) and needs to be cleaned constantly.

the nut fell of the first time I changed strings. One tuner now wiggles in it's hole in the headstock (from string tension??) and this is after having it about two years. I don't gig, so I don't know how it would stand up to that.

This was the guitar I bought when I decided to learn for the first time, and knew nothing about guitars. When I first started, I liked the quieter, mellow sound (others didn't hear my mistakes as much). I've always really liked this guitar, but also realized that it's not very quality. It's now starting to have serious problems (the holes for the tuners are enlarging under the string tension) so I just bought a new Fender DG21S (solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides) that I'm much happier with.

Fender scale (maybe a bit shorter), 14 frets clear of body. Drednought style body. Nato (i have no idea what this wood is or where it comes from, but i think its main use is making ply wood) top, neck, sides, and back. rose wood (not a paticularly good cut, the grain is warped side to side and a bit discolored in a patch or two) fret board and bridge. Plastic/imitation ivory (?) nut and bridge piece, platic (crome plates) tuners 3 to a side. no electronics.

well, there is fret and body binding, spare soundhole decoration and balck head stock veneer. the finish is darkened natural, decently applied. the lower side is paticularly spotty. the tuners are uneven and sticky, but hold tune well, once you get there. frets are moderately well done. frets 12 to 1 are only lacking in end work, but after fret 12, things get kinda bad. the bridge piece is falling apart from the string tension.

This is a standard six-string dreadnought made in Indonesia for Fender. The neck, top, back and sides are satin finished nato (I've never heard of it either) with a standard rosewood fretboard (14 frets clear of the body). The top is laminated. There are no built-in electronics. The guitar has no special features, but that's what you would expect from an instrument in this price range.

To my ears his guitar sounds very good. It has a nice bass response, and a good balance when playing rythym parts. I don't fingerpick, and I'm trying to learn solo flatpicking; this instrument is adequate for the task.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
5
The action is very good; it's pretty much what sold me on this guitar. Compared to other guitars in this price range, it's a very playable instrument. The finish is a different story. The satin finish looked good in the store, but a closer inspection revealed many annoying little imperfections (rough spots, small discolored areas, etc.). The finish pulls the rating down here; action 8, finish 3.
Reliability/Durability

I haven't owned the guitar that long, and I only use it at home. It seems sturdy enough, and stays in tune pretty well. I wonder about the long-term durability of the satin finish; time will tell.

I wanted an inexpensive beginner's guitar that wasn't a piece of junk and that's what I got. I've returned to playing again after more than 20 years, and overall I'm quite satisfied with my DG-5. I did look at other instruments in this price range, and this guitar was the winner.

I've beat it around a bit, and gave it a few dents but it still works. The wood could be a little stronger though. I still have one bad thing to say, the bridge split within the first week but that didn't effect it at all.
