Actually a Fender F-85, Got it from a pawn shop in AZ for $180, Took it home and dolled it all up including truss rod with extreme mucsle tightening. Gloss finish and solid woods all the way around. Spertzel tuners and ebony fretboard. for being made in the mid seenties and in Japan, this is built like a beautiful mac truck. nothng under a grand nowdays can even come close.....

Sound : 10
Full bodied and musical. details every note with perfection. Strum it, finger pick it it all sounds great and deep.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action was a bit high but after wrestling with the truss rods got it totally playable low with only a tiny bit of e string buzz, I mean tiny! comfortable and meaty in my hands. gloss finsh is beautiful and binding has aged to a golden yellow and looks like a million bucks.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Stys in tune pretty good for an old girl and will probably outlive me.

Customer Support : 10
Fender rules in this department and always will.

I have a Parkwood accoustic that I totally loved until this fell into my lap. I wont gig with it but it is tempting? Have and Alvarez 12 string that I hate. Been playing off and on for 20 years now so my eyes have been around the block. This is a top shelf piece of art and can be a steal for the money if you find one.

Spruce top with gloss finish. Rosewood sides and back also clear coated. Rosewood fret board over mahogany neck. Someone here mentioned something about a Laminate top and sides. Not on MY F-75. It is a solid well built guitar. Like any other model of any other manufacturer, some gitars in the same model line sound better than others. This one shines!

Sound : 9
Big round sound. Sound carries well..almost booming compared to other guitars not of the 12 string variety. Intonation not perfect at higher registers but are very close. Tuners are very acurate.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Solid spruce top with split rose wood back. Rose wood fret board not the highest of quality and has worn more than I would like. However, the combination of the woods produce a nice warm round sound with bronze strings and a great bluesy sound with steel strings. I've settled on Elixer coated strings to preserve the fretboard. The factory bridge set up has high for my liking. I filed it down and now the action is superb. I rate it equal to my Taylor!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've used this guitar both live (miked) and in practice (practice on what you play..right?) for over 20 years now. It has held up magnificently. I'll buy another if Taylor would stop making such great guitars!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never put it in the shop but should. It probably could use a "tune-up"

Overall Rating : 10
I've had this F-75 since 1980. Paid under $500 for it and the case. Both have held up well. I also own an Ibanez Artist 250, a Kreamer Focus, a first year run Ovation classical, and a Taylor 355 12 string. And NO you cannot have the Taylor, Ovation, OR the Fender. All, with the exception of the Fender F-75 are played through a Johnson J150 amp. If the F-75 was lost or stolen, I'd definitely track another down then kill the thief!

Had one little ding on the sound board.I ahve owned it since new and it is still my favorite. The years have darkened to top beautife goldish colour.Plays and sounds better than a $3500.00 Martin..

Sound : 10
Great blues, slide and bluegrass..Medium strings

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
As the others I lowed the bridge with a file not taking too much off the bottom strings...trial a bit at a time.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Passes all tests.Good factory backup when I warped the neck driving from Florida to Canada 1979 in the back of my pickup with topper in March. No stress marks or finish cracks but the cold sprung the neck.Called Fender in Toronto On.They fixed no warranty I paid the shipping both ways...Try and beat that.

Customer Support : 10
Like I said no warranty and the factory fixed no charge??

according to Fender they where made from 1974-80 in asia?I would think Japan.Woods used solid spruce top, Rosewood back and sides.
Don't know how old mine is was a gift had it sence 1987.
Has excellent Fender Machine heads.Mine still looks good

Sound : No Opinion
I have always thought it sounded good. Mine has a nice balance of tone warm bottom end.I play folk, blues, country.Sounds good miked up
for recording.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I have lowerd the action from when i got it. it was hard work to play at first good for slide. After a few goes it is now a lot better to play.Stays in tune. The neck could be wider and as mentioned by others first string is close to the edge of fret board. Mine needs a fret job
but it is still good to play.It still looks good has a few bing marks .I use Martin SP's 11-52 sometimes 12's

Reliability/Durability : 8
I use this guitar live and it sounds ok needs a better pick up.
It has been very durabile.always stays in tune.

Purchased new around 1980.. approx $200..spec. order..from a small shop in Sask Canada. Was told that it was the best value for the money. Not a Martin but a recent try of a few accoustics left me liking this guitar a lot.

Sound : 8
Quite loud...best suited using a pick. I currently usinge med. bronze strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Setup ..bridge way too high...I still need to lower it...a 32 at a time. The neck has held up well and is very adaptable to adjusting the bridge height.
Both back and top well matched. The fret board doesn't appear to be of the highest quality 'rosewood'?...not a tight grain.
Binding at the edge (neck)....not well done and is the only part that reveals this to be a low priced guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Has not been played alot but I believe this guitar will hold up very well. Some fret wear. Seems dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know.

Overall Rating : 8
Playing off and on for 40 years...for pleasure.
Guitar was a step up from a Harmoney Sovereign Jumbo
Also have a Takmine ..Black...accoutic/electic....(high fret wear)
and a Yamaha Pacifica..electric...inexpensive ...for a little rock n'roll. Appears very well made for the money.
The Harmoney Jumbo Soverign is for sale...now a collectors item. In very good shape. Not used a lot.

Fender F-75. Made in 1979 I think, in Japan. Spruce two piece top and rosewood two piece back, but very tight seams (great book matching). Rosewood sides and fretboard. As mentioned in prev. reveiw looks like Martin D-28 drednought w/ D-35 bound neck. Black plastic stock pick guard. Fender stock tuners hold very well and I do alot of bends. Fairly thin and narrow neck (head stock back lacks the charateristic buttress like bump at transistion from neck to head stock like Martins seem to have). Ebony bridge base/foot/holder. Cheap, old card board student case.

Sound : 8
Pretty booming for a dreadnaught. Looks like a Martin copy and sounds like a Martin. I like to play cords and blues bends, good for both. Very warm single notes, hard to switch to electric after playing this one for a while. Elec. seems to be drained of color by comparison.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I didn't like this guitar when I first played it (mid '80's) and didn't pick it up for first ten or so years after inheriting it from my brother (RIP). Began playing it about 5 yrs. ago and it's grown on me. Action is OK, might be a tad high in some areas. Buzzes on 1st string, below the 5th fret and when played open. Probably could be improved by a guitar tech. Nut was loose/off when I got it. Top side by sixth string was chipped off and my brother may have been trying to get it replaced. I glued it back in place and it works fine (strings stay in place). 1st string is little close to edge of neck, limits travel in that direction for bends. Intonation seems pretty good. As noted above nice book match front and back. Very glossy finish.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is in great shape for being over 20 yrs. old. Very durable, I don't care what snobs think, the japanese co. doing these for Fender did a really nice job. Bridge and nut are plastic and nut has noted chip, but rest of hardware has held up really well (broke one bridge peg taking out for sting change and noticible because I used a replacement w/o 'pearl' dot). No fears about dragging around and playing live, if I was into that (assuming I got a HSC for it). Finish is very nice, good gloss, covers the entire guitar, but a little grain texture evident through the finish in places, you really have to look in the rights spots, in the right light, at the right angle to see it. I don't use a stap right now, button appears to be OK (only one at base, would have to install one on neck or go for the old fashioned tie off above the bridge). Binding is a little off/uneven w/ wood in places (appears to be original fault), but is still secure and tight. No back up, no problem.

Very nice guitar. I've played guitar for over 20 yrs., drums alot in late '70's and early-mid 80's and bass as needed. I also have a 2000 Squire Fat tele. and a 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio W/ ebony fret board and LARGE MOP crown style markers =;-). I like this guitar, the actions not perfect and the 1st string may buzz at the wrong moments (seems worse in the dry winter air), but sounds real good both soft and loud, overall a keeper. My brother had an Alverez-Yari hand made, top of the line steel string, for a long time and that's still the best steel string acuostic I have ever played (sound, action, looks and everything else), but this is a nice working guitar and I would hunt down any theiving magpie that thought they might wander off w/ it, due to senitmental value. Probably spend bewteen $1000-$1500 to replace it in todays market (assuming no sentimental attachment in value).

japanese made - great quality. Early 70s I think - cost me $400 S/H which i think is great compared to other guitars around this price range. Tuners still working great to this very day - no problems with anything!

Sound : 10
I use gauge 11 strings - gives off warm tones similar to Martin Guitars. Great for classic acoustic songs - ie. Neil Young stuff. Great when picking individual notes - very dominating! very loud guitar!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I brought it the neck was twisted a little, but that was very easily fixed - now they guy I brought it off wants to buy it back for more than I paid! Great low action - no complaintes there. Frets tend to stick out a little but nothing that can't be easily fixed with a bit of filing

Reliability/Durability : 10
Have been using this guitar live and for recordings for past 10 years - held up great. I have a nice Yamaha acoustic and a Guild acoustic - but the Fender is still my number 1!

Customer Support : 10
no probs

Overall Rating : 10
I have many guitars but i always use the fender - so reliable and increadible sounds and playability. If stolen I would hunt another down for sure. Very under-rated guitars! Everyone who plays it raves about how great it is and asks - where can I get one?? :)

Japanese made -- I got it new in the mid '70s (traded it for $30 and an Ovation Breadwinner electric that I paid $195 for). It listed for $325. Dreadnought style. Solid engleman spruce top, solid rosewood sides, solid bookmatched rosewood back, rosewood fingerboard. Nicely detailed white with black "inlay-style" purfling. Nice inlay stripe down the back. The pickguard has nicely detailed white purfling. Black plastic pickguard.

Sound : 8
I has always impressed me with its bright full sound without a lot of boomy bass. Good clearly defined mids and highs. Tends to be better when using a flat pick (strumming and picking). An impressive sounding guitar for its price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
A well built guitar with no real flaws in construction. The back is really braced well. Over the years the neck has wowed slightly (probably because I never bought a case for it and always stored it leaning on the wall in a corner). I do my own setups so a few chosen turns of the truss rod every few years and the action is back where it needs to be. There is alot of wear on the first three frets but after 25 years what do you expect? Gosh, has it been 25 years?

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar has held up well (unlike me, it doesn't look as old as it is). I never played out with it but it is not without its dings & scratches since it has been kicking around the house for a quarter of a century (without a case leaning up against the wall). The past few years it has been on a guitar stand which does well for the continued straightness of the neck.

Unknown -- Fender is a big company, who knows?

I'been playing guitar for 30 years. I play almost exclusively electric guitar today: Fender Stratocaster with Fralin Vintage Hots (telecaster neck), Godin LGXT, Gibson LP Classic LE with P-90s. At the time, this was all I could afford. All I remember is that I tried dozens of guitars all over the city and this was the one, but that was 1976 and today guitarmaking is in its renaissance. If I were to buy another guitar it would definitely be a Goodall. Today I know more of what I want, I wouldn't skimp, and I would go for the best.

Made in Japan '73 or very early '74
A fairly accurate copy of a Martin D-28 dreadnought with a D-35 style bound neck. Black pickguard. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. All D-28 details are there including ivoroid binding, the inlay strip down the back, dove-tail neck joint and internal bracing layout. Very attractive solid spruce top and highly figured laminated dark rosewood back and sides. Barcus-Berry "hot-dot" bridge pickup with external "hot box" pre-amp.

Sound : 7
Although I have enjoyed this guitar for many years it has always been a little soft in the bass. When compaired to todays guitars it is a little over-built. It has very large back braces considering that the back is laminated and not solid rosewood. I have myself tapered the back braces and improved the bass. There has also been a recurring twang to the top two strings which really shows up in recording. Overall this guitar has a good sound compaired to other inexpensive guitars. It is best at strumming and not fingerpicking.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
In the store the neck wasn't straight. They put some tension on the truss rod(it apparently had none) and then it was fine. I had the action lowered a few years ago, but for the first 20 years I played it like it was when new. I have ocassionally had string buzz and muffled strings but fret work always fixed it. The top and back are bookmatched perfectly. I have never detected any goofs in construction. The strings seem very closely spaced, just like a Martin.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I bought this guitar new in March of 1974. I had just sold a Gibson J-45 and wanted a livelier(Martin) sounding guitar. Today this guitar does not look it's age. The neck is straight(never re-set). The body is straight and finish is near perfect.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used any.

Overall Rating : 7
I'been playing guitar for 36 years and all but 9 with this guitar. I also own a beautiful La Patrie classical and a Kramer Aerostar Electric. At the time I bought this guitar Japanese guitars were a quality alternative to U.S. made guitars. A very good looking guitar an very well made. This guitar holds it own aginst solid top w/laminated back&sides guitars selling today for about $400. I expect to spend $1000 on it's replacement.
