Laminated construction with spider bridge cone. Grover tuners, I think. Specs available elsewhere. No electronics.

Sound is very good. Fingerpicking blues and ragtime in standard tuning, not a slide player. Sound is warmer and fuller than I have found in other budget resonator guitars.

Fit and finish is just fine for the money. Frets are good, neck angle is fine.

I'm a middle aged picker, fist picked up a guitar over 30 years ago. Several vintage Gibson and Martin guitars in the house. Primarily fingerpicking blues and ragtime.
Have to rate this a "fantastic value". This is one of the newest, 2007 Gibson Hound Dog guitars. Made in China with a retail price of $349. I did an A-B comparison with a new $1000 Hound Dog made in USA and the sound is nearly identical. The setup on the China box was better.
What I love about this guitar is that it is a ridiculous value. I have been tempted by the Regal metal body resonators in the past, but was never convinced by the sound to pull the trigger. And I don't play resonator enough to justify an expensive instrument. The Hound Dog sounds really good to my ears. I was considering buying the $1000 version and, happily came across the new imports.

Action, fit is absolute crap.
This is the second one of these. The first one went back to the factory or where ever they go. As the neck angle was pure shit. The truss rod was buried in the wood so was totally unadjustable but the neck was so far tipped up it didn't matter. Sent it back and they sent a new guitar back. The second one came with a Tusq nut but high enough to play lap style. The cone rattled and wasn't seated. The coverplate had discoloration through the chrome finish. Overall the guitar was as unplayable as the first one but at least solvable. Does anyone even strum these pieces of crap before they leave the factory???

Better than nothing. At least they sent another guitar. Both were for shit out of the box.

Unless you know how to repair or tweak dobros buy something else. Id say Gibson has a lot of nerve putting the Dobro name of this guitar.
They put a regular radiused guitar narrow neck on this thing. Does anyone left at Gibson know what a resonator or dobro guitar is. So if you knock the nut down to play the 1st and 6th string SOMEWHAT comfortably the middle strings hit the frets. The guitar has potential but limited to the playing style. Doubt I'll ever buy a Gibson product again.
