I just purchased a beautiful spruce topped, rosewood bodied, 1997 Gibson J 60 Plus that I spotted in the local classifieds. I purchased this guitar from the original owner and he told me that he had bought this guitar new in late 1999 from a local retail store. Upon bringing the guitar home, he discovered 2 small cracks in the top between the neck and the sound hole. He shipped the guitar back to the factory (in early 2000) where it was repaired very nicely(had he not pointed the repair work out to me, I would probably have missed it). Other than the repairs, the guitar is perfect! It looks brand new. In purchasing this guitar, I also recieved all the original hang tags, all the letters from the repair shop, the case(great condition as well) and even the factory supplied sound hole humidifier.

Sound : 10
I was looking for a guitar that would sound like an acoustic when played thru an amp/pa. I have played alot of different styles of music over the last 25 years(from pop covers to bluegrass) so I needed something that would be pretty versatile. This guitar has a bright, full tone while still managing to sound like a Gibson.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Having purchased the guitar used, all I can say is the action on this guitar is fantastic. The ebony fingerboard is smooth and fast, and the guitar chords easily all the way down the neck. There aren't any buzzes or bad frets. The gold butterbean tuners hold tune for hours! Other than the afore mentioned cracks, I cannot find anything bad to say about this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have been using this guitar exclusively for about 2 weeks(or 5 shows) without a backup! To be 11 years old, and still be in the shape it is in, I have to give it good marks for durability.

Customer Support : 5
From what the original purchaser told me, all experiences with Gibson were positive, and timely. However, I have owned many Gibson guitars over the years, both acoustic and electric, and have never had a need to use the lifetime warranty for anything, so to be fair, I'll rate this one in the middle.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I guess my favorite feature about this guitar is probably the 'shock' value. I never expected to get a Gibson acoustic guitar that would cut thru the mix the way this one does while still maintaining that Gibson sound(without having to use a mic and all the headaches that go with that live). I would have to say that my least favorite thing about this guitar is the lack of an onboard volume control.
