Clear balanced tones on this guitar. The highs and mids shimmer and the bass is clear but not over the top. Favors a Jazz or Blues style.
Rich/full sound? Yes!
Bright side? Yes, but not 'tinny'.
Compared to a high-end Martin or Taylor? It's all relative, but I prefer Goodall
NO DISLIKES

Outstanding finish
Perfect bookmatched top
FLAWLESS...all around
Have owned 4 Goodalls and all are as close to perfect as one would expect for an EXPENSIVE, HAND MADE instrument.

I pamper Goodall guitars...they RARELY leave the home.

Never had to repair a Goodall
My local luthier can handle any forseeable problems
James Goodall writes back and has an excellent rapport with stores and customers.
James does write back in response to feedback. I imagine he has very little to no negative feedback.

I would not spend this much money on a acoustic without being sure of what I was buying. However tastes do change. The quality of a Goodall is NEVER a reason for selling one.
Wish it had ebony tuners...just a personal preference. Mini Schaller tuners work just fine.
The only reason I would sell is if my music style or tastes change; or my credit card gets out of control...which hs been known to happen!
I currently own 3 Goodall guitars and love them all...enough said
If I had to choose one...probably the Goodall TROM

AAA Koa with a master grade Red Cedar top, flamed maple binding and gold mini-Schaller tuners. The fingerboard, headstock overlay and bridge are ebony. The woods are drop dead gorgeous. There is no cutaway on this guitar, although I wish I would have purchased it with a cutaway as it would be nice to have. A Baggs iBeam pickup was added after the guitar was purchased by the first owner (I am the second owner). The presentation of the guitar is beautiful and always catches the eyes, and comments, of anyone looking.

The cedar gives it a very warm sound while the koa provides great clarity and sustain. There are wonderful overtones, but they are not overdone by any means. The guitar is particularly well-suited for fingerstyle, but also sounds incredible with light to medium strumming - I actually use it for rhythm quite a bit. Chords sing beautifully with a rich, warm and clear sound.

I have had the action adjusted for my personal taste at the Podium in Minneapolis (Marty Reynolds does an outstanding job by the way), and it is now exactly as I prefer it. It did take a couple of trys to get it there, as the guitar had some "sympathetic" string buzz at first. I have noticed it with other Goodalls in the past as well, but this one might also have been due to the way the previous owner set it up. The rest of the fit and finish is flawless. I'll give James the benefit of the doubt on the string buzz since it was a pre-owned instrument when I received it.

I'm not a professional musician that plays in bars a lot. However, everything about the guitar says quality and I have not had a single cause for concern. The finish isn't wearing off, the hardware is great, etc. I'm exceptionally careful with this guitar because I don't want to damage it at all - it's too beautiful to ding it up.

I have spoken with James and Jean Goodall as well emailed with them. They have responded in a timely fashion and have been very helpful all around even though it was a pre-owned guitar I was buying at the time. That level of customer service helped me decide to buy a brand new Goodall (a different model) a couple of years after acquiring this KCJ.

I have been playing guitar for 20 years and have owned Martins, Taylors, Santa Cruz and Collings (I regret selling that one) in addition to two Goodall guitars. I currently own this KCJ, a Honduran Rosewood Grand Concert with Italian Spruce, and a Santa Cruz OM. The Goodalls are my favorite guitars to have owned, but I wish one of them had a cutaway.

AAAA Curly Koa,(there is not anywhere on the back and sides that is not 3D, and I am not exagerating.) Master Grade Bear Claw Sitka Spruce, Purple Heart binding including the fingerboard (very unusual and very beautiful), the blackest Ebony bridge and board w/slotted square diamonds, bone nut and saddle, gold Mini-Schallers, soft cutaway. No electronics. Made in 2002. Sometimes I just put it on the stand and lust at the Bearclaw, then turn it around and stare into the Koa. Ooo---ahhh.

The Sitka top is a different animal than Englemen. Sitka takes a bit more coaxing to get the sound out. However, it is the most stable of the Spruces. I feel it is the best match to my playing style. This instrument lacks nothing in tone. It is sonically responsive to all
areas of the fretboard. The bass is strong and round, the mids are perfect and never nasal, and the highs are crystal clear. The Koa back and sides add an incredible clarity somewhere between Indian RW and Maple.

I am very fortunate to have a luthier here in Boise, Idaho who is an absolute master at setting up guitars. I have every one of my instruments in his shop once a year...just because. (His name is David Boehlke. He has built some wonderful classicals.) It wouldn't matter how "perfect" a guitar came from the builder, I take it to Dave
and he works his magic. I took this guitar to him and he was stunned at the beauty and sound of it, and said, "Just look at this guitar." James Goodall is a master luthier. To me he is simply the best.

I have a Rosewood/Sitka Jumbo that was built in 1993 and it is as solid as the day I received it. This guitar will be around my house
and my kids houses when I am gone.

Of the seven Goodalls I have owned in the past 12 years, I have had only one very minor issue, and that was solved here in Boise. James and Jean were very concerned and made every effort to help including communicating directly with Dave Boehlke. I do not expect any problems. 5 year warrantee.

I have been playing guitar for over 45 years. I have owned Collings, Santa Cruz, Taylors, Martins, and have played most of the "big boys" out there. There are indeed some great ones. Why have I owned so many Goodalls?...because to me, they are the best on the planet. They are expensive, but what a terrific value. Heaven forbid, if I had a fire my Goodalls would be my first priority after my family. Yes I would replace any of them if they were stollen. Every serious player should try a Goodall. It may be the ONE you are looking for.
