This guitar has a beautiful bright sound with an incredibly low action. I added some medium light D'Addario strings and this thing sings like a bird.
Whether strumming chords, finger picking or playing lead riffs I've never held a better guitar in my hands.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Low action needing no adjustment.
Has beautiful Mother of Pearl inlays around the sound hole and the outer edges and the whole build oozes quality. The action is so smooth it is a joy to play and I find it difficult to put down once I start strumming.

The guitar is 10 years old and still looks in showroom condition. It's as solid as it is beautiful. Mine has 2 strap buttons but I only ever play it seated over one knee. I used to keep it in a hard case but it's so easy on the eye I now have it perched on a wooden guitar stand in the corner of my living room.

I've been playing 30 years and have owned various acoustic guitars. I've also recently played a Taylor 314CE and I would not swap this guitar with anything else.
If this were lost or stolen I'd be devastated because they are impossible to come by nowadays. You never see them on sale because once you own one you'll never want to sell it.
When Gretsch first put these on sale back in the late nineties they retailed at $520.00. I'd pay double that for a guitar this perfect.

-Well this is my first acoustic and one of the things that attracted me to it was its beautiful design, i loved its body style and the almost goldish finish on it, however looks only get you so far and it is whats inside that counts and here is where the guitar shines, the woods used are an amazing find in a guitar in this price range, these materials form a truly unique and beautiful sound

-despite its small body the guitar casts a pretty good sound which is fine for playing with friends in a decent sized room, however in large rooms a microphone system would be required, and since i don't play gigs i can't tell you how it sounds in a concert setting
-the guitar has a beautiful almost wavy sound that sounds great wether you are strumming or finger picking

-well here is where i have some minor problems, since purchasing the guitar about 3 months ago it has developed a very difinitive mark down the front of the body where the two pieces of wood meet, however this has no effect on the sound, this was simply caused by the extreme humidity my town has experienced lately which caused the joint between the wood to become more vissible, this however was easily stopped with a quick run to the guitar shop where i bought a hummidifier which has stoped the mark from becomming more defined
- other than that minor concern the guitar has held up great so far and i hope i can enjoy many years of playing it

-well as i said earlier i have had this guitar for 3 months and have had no real problems with it, i love its sound and i love playing it as much as i possibly can, if it were stolen i would buy the exact same guitar except with electrics because i would enjoy being able to play bigger rooms than my living room

I imagine that it would stand up well live, but it would need to be mic'ed up or used with an after-market pickup. It is very light, as most acoustics are. The hardware is of excellent construction - tuners offered very little slip, the frets are all even and the finish is beautiful. The guitar is a joy to look at and to hold.

This is my first Gretsch, so I do not know what to expect. I do not plan on having to contact Customer Support, but you never know.

I have wanted to pick up an acoustic for some time. I am probably one of the worst acoustic players in the world - over 15 years of electric playing can do that to you. I wanted something of good construction and quality, but I did not want to break the bank, as I am no Steven Stills.
Last night my wife proposed that we stop by the local music store on the way home from work to see if they have any decent acoustics. We were in there about a week earlier, and they had a few Fenders, Martins and Guilds. The latter were way out of my price range, but the Fenders weren't too off the mark. I hadn't heard stellar things about Fender's acoustics however, and I wanted to give 'em a whirl.
As soon as we entered the store something new caught my eye. The store just received 2 Gretsch "Historic Series" acoustic guitars the day before - one natural maple and one cherry finish. Beautiful guitars. Abalone markers and inlay around the sound hole. Warm, figured finish. Even with the stock lightweight strings, the notes just jump out of the guitar. There is a lower cutaway, allowing access to the upper frets, and the intonation is dead-on. Perfect neck - not too thin, not too thick. Flawless. I was sold - all that in a guitar for under $400!
Just to be sure I tried out one of the Fenders (it was a dreadnought acoustic/electric). Not even close. It sounded too "boxy", plus the neck felt like the slapped an old Strat neck on an acoustic body. Not for me.
I've tried other acoustics (Ibanez, Charvel, Ovation)in the mid to low price range, and the Gretsch was by far the best sounding and constructed one in the bunch. It even sounds better than the majority of high-end acoustics that I have used over the years for studio work. If you get the chance - definately check one out. It is worth it!
