The guitar could not be played right out of the box when I plugged it in to my 1/2 stack. The feedback was uncontrolable at an audible volume. Once I replaced the poorly wound cheapo pickups with a Bill lawrence XL500 at the bridge and a Seymour distortion at the neck, the guitar sounded nice.
I'm a somewhat aggressive guitarist... Kinda like Gary Moore. So, you can say I man handle the neck. In anycase, I pitted the frets really quick and had to refret it within 2-3 months after I purchased it.

The action was decent, which is why I bought it. As I mention before, the pickups were chepo open coil pickups. If you have a small combo amp, they are ok. But, if you play on plugging it into a tube 1/2 stack or better, forget it. The intonation was perfect. It had really cheap fret wire. It had a plastic nut which I replace w/ an ivory one when I had it refretted. This helped w/ the sustain big time.

Right out of the box, I would have never considered using it at a gig... not even as a backup. I replace almost all the hardware, except the machines and locking nut within a few months after I purchased it.

After dumping about $400 into the axe, it's really nice. Actually, it's been my main axe since I finished the modifications back in 1987. To be honest, if I knew I had to spend so much cash to get it playable to my standards, I wouldve gotten something else. For $750 back in 1986, I couldve gotten something much nicer.
A word to the wise... When ever you intend on buying a brand new guitar, be sure to find an amp in the store which best resembles the one you have at home to try it out.
