I traded a collapsing Dobro for what turned out to be a 1957 Guild Capri CD-100. This is an amazing instrument. P-90 pickup can sing or growl or do whatever you need. Mine's been refinished to black, reducing its value some, but still prices out at over $800 USD. The neck on this guitar surpasses ANY OTHER I have ever put my hands on. The touch is astounding. I have had folks who play custom axes worth ten times the value of this one beg me to sell it to them. If you can lay your hands on one, buy it! Paying up to $1,000 is not unreasonable for one in good condition.

Sound : 9
I play blues, swing, rock and roll, a little jazz, the damned thing is suited for anything from Count Basie to Junior Walker to Jimmy Page. The biggest problem involves feedback on the D, a common sort of thing that is easily remedied by taping or otherwise block the f-holes. It really doesnt' affect the sound that much. A little reverb or delay and the thing is a monster.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is astounding.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's almost as old as I am and in much better shape, all things considered! The fret markers are acetate, so they've shrunk over the years and look a little funky. The finish is checked, but intact, there's a little delamination apt to occur around the f-holes, but otherwise the thing is built like a tank.

I've been playing for 30 years (you'd think I would be a whole lot better than I am!), I would not part with this guitar for any amount of money. No other guitar I've played is comparable (and I own an ES-335, among other great guitars), it is amazing. Put me on a desert island and this is the guitar I want with me!

A single cutaway hollow body electric. Built in 1960 in USA. Has two single coil P-90 style pickups. Similar but slightly thiner than a Gibson ES-175.

Sound : 9
I play jumpin swingin blues, infected with nostalgic jazz and rock n roll. I use old Fender amps of varying size depending on the venue. I don't use effects other than a bit of echo and the occasional clean boost from a TS-9. Is it noisy? Duh... It sounds ten feet thick. Bright, fat, woody, growly, smooth, twangy. You'd think it was a strat, a tele, a 335. I've been told to "name my price" many times, during shows, by other guitarists. I love this guitar and would never part with it. I have read that the pickups that come in these guitars are all unique and vary a lot. So good luck...

I can't be critical of this guitar. It's magic.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitars still tough after 40 years. I play it all the time and respect it. I never gig without a back up guitar so thats moot.

It's 40 years old...............

I've played for twenty-six years and have owned all sorts of Gibsons and Fenders. I am a full time musician and own a guitar shop. I still own a 64 strat, which I use for spare. My amps include a Vibroluxe, 60 Vibrasonic, 65 twin, 66 AC-30, among others. I find the Gibsons too dark sounding and the Guild arch tops of this period seem nice and bright. The price's of these guitars are so resonable I'd buy another in a second if I could find a player like mine. If your into roots music I think it's the best. Have a look you'll see I'm not alone choosing Guild.
