Just the process of tuning this guitar told me I was in for a treat. This guitar is LOUD. Tight, thumping bass with crystal highs. Very rich in harmonics. No break-up at all even when strummed hard. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just a finger-style guitar. It will hold its own during a bluegrass session. I have a 1985 Guild D35 and the CV-1 easily beat it in volume and projection. I'm in love. There is not one flaw on this guitar. This guitar is a bargain for 1879.00 I have seen and played Martin's twice the price that can't compare to the sound and beauty of this guitar. Donnie Wade and co. are doing great things at Guild. Nice to know that the Guild name is being treated with the respect it deserves. "The label should say "Made To Be Cherished" because this a fine example of the luthiery art.

When I opened the beefy "TKL" case I was greeted by the most beautiful spruce and rosewood I had ever seen on a new guitar. The Madagascar rosewood Guild uses for the fingerboard, bridge and headstock is just mind-blowing. The figure, richness, and smell is intense. The Indian rosewood on the side and back is unbelievable. Who is buying the timber at Guild? Give that person a raise!! I inspected every square inch of this guitar and it was flawless. The inside was free of sawdust and traces of glue. The binding was executed perfectly. The finish? Forget about it. Nothing compares to nitro lacquer for a deep gloss finish on natural wood. For sound and beauty it's tops. That's why the serious guitar makers still use it and Guild IS A SERIOUS guitar maker. The finish on this guitar was breath-taking. The nitro lacquer was shot by a master. If I had to quibble about anything (and this is very, very minor) The action was just a tad high. A quick truss rod tweak and a little sanding of the saddle and I was in picking, plucking and strumming heaven. Action is a matter of player preference though. The guitar was completely playable out of the case. This is a review though so......

I have owned Guilds for years. I have family members that have played Guilds since before I was born (I'm 38). They have a deserved reputation for being bulletproof. They are not fragile museum pieces to be played gingerly. Look at Hank III!

Never had to call them. I bet they are really nice people though.

I've been a player for 30 years. Mostly electric but I have been playing more acoustic the last 10 years. I always wanted a rosewood bodied OM style guitar. Martin was the only maker I respected that had them until Guild came back. Thankfully, Guild is making some of the best guitars in it's history right now. The quality has never been better. The quirks are gone. Value is still #1. Long Live Guild!

The first thing that drew me to this guitar was how nice it looked. It has a beautiful antique burst.
It features a vintage F-40 body, patented Guild Neck Block System, solid spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, lacquer finish, bone nut and saddle, ivoroid bindings, Madagascar rosewood fingerboard and bridge, pearl logo and new G shield, plus abalone dot inlays.
It has Gotoh 500 open-back tuners and it came with a guild hard-shell case (Its pretty nice).
Everything is made in the US.

When I first picked up this guitar I was amazed by the sound each chord produced. Every individual string sounds just as sharp as the next and you could hear them individually as you strummed through each chord. I feel this guitar is best suited for finger picking or a lead style of play. The only thing I do not like is that it does not resonate the way a Martin or a Taylor would, but that is what gives this guitar a unique sound.
This guitar is LOUD for such a small body, which can be good and bad.
After a bit of play it sounded a bit "tarty" for my taste but the ease and playability of this guitar is amazing.

The first thing I noticed about this guitar was how easy it was to play. You would be amazed at how easily you can fly through a lead with the clarity of each of the string. The action was a little high for my taste but it did not matter with its playability. I believe this is probably the best feature of this guitar.

I have not used this guitar in my regular routines yet.
I believe this is definitely one of those guitars that will only sound and play better with age. The finish is tough enough to withstand my reckless strumming without a pick guard.

The main reason I bought this guitar was because I got an incredibly good deal on it. Under my possession I have had a under-the-saddle pickup installed as well as the action lowered. Being that the guitar sounded a little "tarty" for my taste I did look at some other guitars (Martins, Taylors). Though the other guitars had their own amazing unique qualities, this guitar blows them away with its playability and unique sound.
I really like to dig into my guitars while playing them and I feel that I almost don't want to ruin such a beautiful instrument. This has really made me tone down my playing style and ultimately was the reason I was looking for another guitar. Since I couldn't find another guitar that plays like this one, I have began to really take ownership and play this guitar like its meant to be played.
I have a Takamine and a Martin that I play through a Fender passport system. I have been playing for 8+ years. If this guitar was stolen I probably wouldn't be able to afford it @ its original price, so ultimately would probably settle for something less.

This is a beautiful solid wood, gloss rosewood/spruce guitar with Madagascar Rosewood bridge, rosette and fretboard made in 2006 at the Tacoma Washington facility. The body is the new contemporary series modelled after the F series which an auditorium size no cutaway. What a comfortable size. The tuners are Gotoh open style solid nickle I believe. This is a pure acoustic, no electronics.

Great all around guitar with plenty of sound and projection. I would say rich and full with surprising bass. I play hobby music and I'm not a heavy handed player, this guitar is just what I needed to get my volume up,....no problem being heard. I can actually back off alittle in some situations. Sounds beautiful played hard or soft, strumming or fingerpicking.

I can't find anything to complain about, it's nice and tight. Not overdressed, just enough nice details. No fretboard binding which I like, I like seeing the edge of the rosewood. Comes with a nice TKL/Guild case. I will probably lower the action a bit but that's not unusual to need some tweaking.

I have been playing rather sready for about 5 years now. I have another Guild model G-37 which is a dread, maple/spruce I bought new in 1983 and played once in a while and nevr got serious till more recent years. This is the best looking, loudest guitar I've owned.
I like it alot, no complaints.
