This is a mid 80s model- made in USA which is Mahogany as described in the other reviews. Sold to me as "having a Mahogany top" which I believe to be true. Features curved back that is not found on many guitars of this style and price point.
The neck is great especially when you compare it to China and Japan guitars of the common flavor. Frets and satin finish make it feel more like a well worn pair of jeans than plastic coating! Who needs more in the way of features?

I compared this to a high end Yamaha (FG735S) with sold spruce top and the Yamaha is a much brighter guitar.
The sound of the Guild is rich and deep, as if it were a well aged bottle of wine- makes strumming sound very good. I feel little is lost in tone and mahogany wood seems to act as a natural compression unit. I think I will pick this guitar over the Yamaha most of the time.

This feels to be a very solid work horse. Action feels great and the neck reminds me of some Gibson products.
I like the very plain Jane look - some might not.

The guitar came without a case but looks great for its age - no cracks or issues. I like how the satin finish is wearing. It feels as though it will last many years of playing for me and continue to weather and relic like a pro.

Don't care about this - looks like nothing will go wrong and could increase in value over time.

My primary instrument is bass and I enjoy playing a 65 fender jazz. Don't really want to spend a lot of money on an acoustic and feel this was a great value and really fits in with my other instruments to stand the test of time. If this were lost or stolen I would definitely look to replace it!

It has working tuners...umm thats a feature in a way. It is an acoustic guitar. It plays well but its not loaded with feature. Simple and effective. Higher fret access isnt good at all bt its a dred. thats the way it is. I also love the color, earthy,i think its pretty neat.

This thing sounds great for strumming, open tuning, a little slide here and there. The sound is big, really big. Its warm full and soft, without losing volume or tone deffinition. I love this things sound

Fret work is flawless, neck feals great. It takes abuse with grace, i knock it around a bit but it barely shows. The pick guard is peeling a little bit but otherwise this thing hold up well, looks nice and is well put together.

It has literaly been through a few huricanes and a blizzard. The weather her flucuates constantly and this thing still doesnt go out of tune or warp (beyond a certain level of reason. The neck's a little bowed)

I love this guitar. It was my fathers 2nd acoustic guitar and a beauty at that and we still fight over it. But I love this thing, sound, finish and all. I give it a ten, because in spite of minor flaws (pick guard peelage) this thing is a work of art.(and it only caost about 600 with the nice hardshell case, which is in REALLY bad shape nowadays.

Bought it new in 1983 at a music shop. Dreadnought with a solid spruce top, rosewood fretboard. Solid wood guitar w/ dot inlays. Dark brown color some may not like. The back is slightly raised/carved. Made in the USA Rhode Island. No features but it is not supposed to. A Plain Jane. The neck is awsome easy to play chords on.

Full deep rich sound. Never heard anything like it. One of a kind. Got better with age.

Had this guitar for 20+ years and still plays great. Can't think of anything bad to say about it other than not a cutaway body but that would subtract from the tone. Action is A1. Stays in tune forever. If a player comes to my house that is the first guitar they play.

I have been playing for over 20 years. I also own a Casino w/Bigsby, Epi Les Paul Classic Plus, Highway 1 Strat and MiM Tele. If I could find another I would buy it. Good for Folk, Bluegrass and classic soft Rock. I've played new Guilds, made overseas, nice but not the same. I think I paid around $300. in 1983.

Here is a New England built Guild acoustic D-15 , no electronics ; a large , dark thin necked dread with ( as far as I can tell ) all original parts .

It has a fine sound , fairly full and resonant depending upon the strings .

Great action ; I picked this unit (used) from dozens of various acoustics at the dealer's ... including other Guilds , Gibsons , etc . for its ease of play . Used guitars always carry along a few flaws from their previous lives .

This guitar has suffered every indignity imaginable . It has been dropped , kicked , sat on , stepped on , fallen , cracked , soaked ,
squeezed , spat , sweat upon , burned and had a crack in the top to side seam filled with .... CAULK ... and yet it jams on ....

I would be embarrassed to send it back to them due to the abuse factor .

Have played for 35 years , own(ed) tons of equipment . I love the indestructability of this guitar while hating the putrid brown finish color :-P Wish it was prettier ! Also adore the easy neck and have yet to find another anything set up quite so delicately , maybe my Gibon RD Artist but not many others

Sound is deep, mellow, and loud. The tones are full and even. Guitar can take a beating - does not bottom out. Excellent for open tuning and strumming. Not as good for fingerpicking. Yet, better than most $1000 guitars on the market today.

I am the original owner of the guitar and still play it nearly every day, even twenty+ years later. No recollection of factory condition. As my style of play and skill have evolved, the guitar has stood the test of time. Would I rather have a Martin HD-28VR? Yes, but if I never had another guitar, I would still be happily playing.
The guitar could use a grind and polish now but that goes without saying (said it anyway).

When I bought the guitar, the guy who sold it to me said that "Guilds are like Buicks, they will get you where you need to go every time but you have to settle for a little less style." Still fits.

I have been playing for 25 years. I have owned Ovations, Takamine, Guild, unbeleivable no-names, etc. I also play a 1971 Gibson Les Paul Custom and have BC Rich Eagle electic guitar that gathers dust. When I use amps, I play through a either a Peavy Bandit 65, or 18 Watt tube amp Marshall knock-off made by a buddy of mine - Adam Amps (totally killer).
I love how reliable the Guild is. I prefer a wider nut. My favorite feature is the unmistakable warmth of the guitar. If it were stolen, I would probably buy a Martin OM-28v. But, I have more money than I did when I was a kid, play better than before, and wouldn't even know where to begin looking for another one of these babys.

THIS IS A 1992 GUILD D15 THAT I OWNED FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS BEFORE
TRADING IT IN ON A DEAL FOR A GIBSON SONGBIRD DELUXE TWO YEARS AGO
IT WAS A FULL DREADNOUGHT NO ELECTRONICS, SOLID MAHOGANY TOP,
LAMINATED MAHOGANT SIDES (I THINK) AND A ARCHED LAMINATED MAHOGANY
BACK, WHINE RED FINISH WITH NO BINDING ON BODY, ROSEWOOD FINGERBOARD
AND BRIDGE, SILVER GROVER TUNERS, GUILD NAME ON HEADSTOCK, NO
CHESTERFIELD LOGO, VERY PLAIN GUITAR. I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD ABOUT ANOTHER ONE ANYWHERE.

THE SOUND WAS DARK AND MELLOW AS EXPECTED, KIND OF A RESTRAINED TONE
HARDLY ANY BRIGHTNESS AT ALL WHICH IS OK FOR CERTAIN TUNES, BUT NOT
SUITED WELL FOR OTHERS WERE A LITTLE BRIGHTNESS IS NEEDED, VERY LITTLE
SUSTAIN, BUT IF YOU BUY AN ALL MAHOGANY GUITAR THATS THE TONE YOUR
PROBALY GOING TO GET, USING A THINNER PICK HELPED A LITTLE AND I GOT
USED TO THE SOUND AND REALLY LIKED IT FOR STRUMING. THATS ONE THING ABOUT THIS D15 YOU COULD STRUM AWAY AS HARD AS YOU LIKED THE TONE WOULD NOT VARY OR BUZZ OR BREAKUP AT ALL.
