I've had this guitar for a little less than a year, but it was made in 1983. I finger pick acoustics and think it sounds better picked than strummed. When I bought the guitar, it had a fishman pickup installed in it.

This guitar sounds great. I loved the tone and I love the volume it produces. I use Dean Markley Blue Steel strings, so it sounds a little on the bright side. But since I don't use a pick, it sounds great.

This is the easiest guitar that I have ever played that wasn't a Les Paul. It's set up perfectly. I never played an acoustic guitar where it was so easy to play minor barre chords. It's just terrific. The back of the neck is a little banged up from wear and tear, but oh well. I think it just adds character to the guitar.

I've played live a few times with it and I've had no problems at all with it. It's already 22 years old and just has some wear on the back of the neck, that's it. I do gig without a back up.

There's no warrenty left on it, but I've never had to call Guild's customer support. Their website is really nice when it comes to dating the guitar with the serial number, though.

I like this guitar better than a lot of Martins and Taylors and Gibsons that I've played. I was actually looking to buy a vintage Gibson, but decided against it because I knew I'd play my Guild way too much and the Gibson way too little.

I've had this D46 for 18 years now. My brother had it for about 5 years before he passed away. It had all the nice trim and the ash finish is still perfect. The hard shell factory case is the best fit of any of my other instruments.

The sound is powerful. If played in a group with other acustics, I have to tone down so the others can be heard. Who wants to hear the others anyway? This machine is great with a pick-up. No overtones or ringing. It isn't the best for jazz but it is great for country pickin'. Without a pick it is really mellow. The bass end is almost as good as my Martin D45. The top end is better.

The action is still great even after 25 years. I had Zapf's music in Philadelphia set it up 15 years ago. They lowered a couple of frets to get rid of some ringing. It has been perfect ever since. The neck has never been adjusted and probably never will be. It is still perfect.

This guitar is one that I can't part with. I've used it live for many years and have stored it for a few more. Every time I think of upgrading, I take it out of the case and fall in love again. It rarely needs major tuning as long as I use the right strings. Light gage strings do not do well on this guitar. I keep a Martin and an Epiphone 12 string but this one is definately my favorite.

The finish cracked because I moved from Michigan to Texas and didn't store it properly. At the time it was only 20 years out of warranty. I told that to the factory and sent them a deposit check to refinish it. They refinished it and sent my check back, no charge. It doesn't get much better than that.

I cant rate it any better. If I lost my Martin, I would probably use the insurance money to buy another Guild.

Newly acquired 1982 Guild D46, with swamp ash back/sides, made in Rhode Island. Spruce top, lovely color. Gloss finish. This is the heaviest dreadnought I've ever seen, solid as a cement block. I am the second owner (original receipt was in the original case). Fancy headstock with the Guild crest in mother-of-pearl. I'll give it a "10" because the swamp ash is so striking.

Very loud guitar, responds better to strumming with a pick than fingerpicking. Deep, rich sound, very balanced, clear highs and powerful lows without booming.

Neck is excellent; I had always heard that Guilds were not easy to play, but this one plays great (not as great as my Taylor, but pretty close). This guitar is so solid and well put together that I don't expect any neck problems.

This is a 22 year-old guitar with no issues. Solid as a rock.

Outstanding instrument, I'm lucky to have found it. I love the sound, the looks, the playability. This goes into the collection with the 1999 Taylor 710, the 1999 Strat Deluxe, and the old worn out Alvarez.

A rather unusual piece, the D-46 was manufactured briefly by Guild in the early eighties. My dreadnaught dates from 1985 and has a solid spruce top with ash back and sides. The bookmatched back is quite pretty, showcasing the signature grain of ash. The addition of an unbound ebony fingerboard and bridge, multiple bindings, and a mahogany center strip on the back of the neck, give this model the dressing normally associated with Guild's top of line dreadnaughts. Also notable are the tuning machines labeled "Guild", which you do not see anymore. The ebony contrasts nicely with the blond ash body and pumpkin colored spruce top. Overall, an understated, yet elegant package.

I play various styles, and this guitar adapts quite well. The bracing looks to be scalloped, or at least shaved, lending the instrument a wonderful, rich sound. Its strength, however, is clearly its balance - nearly perfect across the spectrum, and it is hands down the clearest sounding acoustic (when amplified) that I have played, with similiar characteristics to maple. It is predictably bright, but also surprisingly warm.

I bought this guitar used, and, having been neglected by its original owner for quite sometime, developed a slight hump in the area where the neck joins the body, causing some string buzz in that vicinity. I had this problem alleviated by an expert repairman, who adjusted the truss rod and re-radiused the frets. Now it has a smooth, low, and fast action, lending itself well to lead playing.

Guilds are known for their toughness, and this one is no exception. I believe that the neck would have never needed adjustment if it was stored properly

I sent a Guild jumbo back once to the factory (the sunburst finish was streaked), and promptly received a beautiful replacement.

Overall, for the dough I had to shell out, this Guild was a terrific find. I play it daily, and I find it to be one of those instruments that you can take around with you and use in a variety of settings - a real workhorse.
