I really should put this under "D-64", but clearly Dave "doe" and I have very simoiar guitars. This guitar was made in 1984 in Westerly, Rhode Island. AS Dave's D-66, it is a special production model codesigned by famous luthier George Gruhn. It has an all maple body - blonde front, sides, and back. It also has the mother of pearl diamond shaped inlays - I have never seen them except on my guitar either! Very nice looking, and draws a lot of compliments. Very nice aged look to it now. i got it new in 1984.

Great sound - I had a Martin D-35 before this, which I paid twice as much for - this sounded better from the start. Crisp, clear, just what you want in an acoustic.

Very nicely set up when I bought it. I hate to admit this, but I have never had it adjusted or set up in any way in over 20 years. I just play it - no buzzes, nice low action.

Well, over twnety years later, it is clear this guitar was well built. No cracks, no problems. Some fret wear (of course!), pick scratches, etc. all put on it by me, but still looks fine.

If you see one used, get it. Guilds (US made) are solid as a rock, and sound beautiful. I also have a Guild Bluesbird AAA - I love both these guitars. I recently had George Gruhn appraise the guitar (he does this through his web site), and he valued it at $1,500 - scratches and all. One reason I'm sure is that only 193 of this model were made (I have #6). I had no knowledge of this when I bought it, I just loved its sound and look. Just lucky I guess.
Any Guild guitar is highly recommended by me!

This guitar was made in 1985 in Nashville Tennessee as a special production model as codesigned by famous luthier George Gruhn. It has a sitka spruce top and a solid east indian roswood back and sides. It has mother of pearl diamond shaped inlays in a pattern i've seen on no other guitar Guild or otherwise...Has a headstock inlay as well similiar to the old guild archtops. Also features ivory(?) bound neck and body. Very classic/vintage look as it ages.. almost pumpkin colored... Has the traditional tortoise guild pickguard. Rosette is modest considering the other adornments.

Wide, thin neck, very playable and a real cannon. Excellent bass response and very cutting treble.... excellent for flatpicking/bluegrass style.

Rosewood is beautiful and widegraind. Obviously handpicked. There are no manufacturing flaws that I am aware of. As I stated earlier, this guitar only gets better sounding and better looking with age. The neck is very smooth and the fretboard seems roomy, extremely playable, may be biased towards my own feel, but it is ergonomically perfect for my hands.

Heavy duty.... Is the sturdiest dreadnought I have owned. My Larrivee d-09 is anemic in comparison, very close in overall build as a D-28 martin...

Havent dealt with them aside from inquiring about the specs. They responded promptly and provided me with the year of manufacture and construction specs.

I have owned this guitar since 1992 and I will propably die with it. I have been playing for 20 years and currently own a Martin d28, Larrivee d-09, a Yamaha fg375sII. The guild was the one I paid the least for and have never tired of. I have nothing bad to say about this guitar. I would not only keep this guitar, but based on the rarity and quality of it I would buy another if I was to come across it....
