Cutaway, semi-thin body, premium quality woods, pne of the best electronic pickup. Came
with Deluxe hard case

Sound : 10
EP9 Steve Vai is an execellent sounding guitar. It has a full, rich loud sound. The sound is very clean, clear and balanced. I think this is due to the thin light sheet of spruce laid in a floating position parallel to the back board, first time to see such design. The EP9 is acoustically and electronically better sounding than the emerald green maple version probably because of the engelman spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The bass is not as deep as a jumbo but the bass is deep enough to qualify it as an excellent guitar. With the Fishman Matrix pickup and Aura acoustic sound imaging system you can dial not one but five studio/stage quality sound which is the best I have heard. Plus it comes with a built-in digital tuner and an anti-feedback switch plus more added features. This guitar can easily outperform guitars costing twice its price. Because of the sound plugged or unplugged, I ordered a second one for keeps.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Made in China. It has a low action which makes the fretboard lightning fast. Comes with light frets. The fretboard and rosette "Tree of Life" pearloid and wood inlays gives this guitar an added beauty. Without it, the guitar looks very basic. The fretboard is the best there is, from lowest to hightest note register is perfect. The top sound board is an engelman spruce with mahogany back and sides coated with a mat satin finish. A Grover
gold satin finish tuner keeps the string in tune. A glueing cosmetic defect is visible in the upper bridge. The built is superb and extremely playable.

Reliability/Durability : 9
No problems encountered as of now. The Fishman pickup and preamp is very reilable.
One thing to be a addressed is the 9 volt battery housing connection does not have a printed connecting direction to ensure that the battery is position in the right position(positive or negative). A loose tiny screw inside the body made a noticable noise
whenever you move it. Anyway the guitar is well and beautifully built. Worth the price.

I don't one as of now.

Overall Rating : 10
This is THE best all rounder guitar.

This is an electroacustic Stevie Vai model with B-Band UST (Under Saddle Transduser) and A5 preamp.

This is not a review but one thing to check if you have bought or are concidering to buy this guitar... I don't know if this is a design/tolerance problem in all of these guitars or just that mine had this problem.

The "Ivorex" made -as they call it - saddle on the bridge is too loose. It is so loose that if there is no strings attached it can even drop by itself if you turn guitar upside down. It's certainly so loose that you can pull it away with your fingers without any force.
This causes a problem that is also referred in B-Band installation manual. Saddle can tilt forward when strings are tightened and thus not pressing UST transducer evenly and firmly enough.
This then causes low ouput from preamp and problems in balance between the strings.

I heavily noticed this problem after changing strings and spend some time figuring out why. So I found this B-Band manual where I got ideas of what can be wrong. I put some stuff in between the slot and saddle and was able to prevent tilting forward. This immediately cured string balance and output problems. The problem had also been there after factory as output and balance got even better than it had been after factory.

I had mine finally fixed so that a new tight enough saddle from bone was made to guitar...

Haven't had enough time to play with it yet so maybe I'll update the review later when I have other comments about sound, playability etc.
