This is a figured ash body (back, sides and front - not sure if laminated) electro acoustic guitar with a mahogany neck. It is fitted with a B-Band transducer (not a ceramic piezo like most other brands) and an EQ that features a tuner, a phase shift button and a notch filter, to avoid feedback when used with amplification.

The body depth is definitely dreadnought, as it is 130mm at the tail piece, but does slim down at the neck join. This guitar has strap buttons at the tail and neck heel. The amplified output is output via a standard jack plug (to your amp) or a balanced XLR (direct to your PA) from a panel on the lower bout that also houses the battery compartment. This guitar does not use a 9V battery. It uses 2 AA penlight batteries instead.

In theory, Ash as a tonewood is idea for high end electric guitars for it's sustain, but it's not widely used in acoustic manufacturer. You need something rigid for the back and sides that will reflect the sound and a resonant piece for the top or soundtable. On paper, Ash should soak up the sound. In reality it gives a bright sound approaching a 12 string. The full range of tone is there, but it is a markedly different sound to my Tanglewood which is smaller bodied and made of Ovankol and Spruce.

The size of the body makes sure this is an acoustic guitar that can be amplified, as oppose to a guitar that has to be amplified. It is a sound that isn't too specific and would work in any style of music.

This is a mass produced Chinese acoustic guitar from a well respected Japanese manufacturer, known for their high quality electric rock guitars. Ibanez offer far more than solid rock guitars and this is definitely a product that is designed to impress. This guitar is from the EW or Exotic Woods range and the body is a high gloss figured Ash finish. Other finishes are available, but this seems to be the most popular and also is the only version in the EW range available to the left handed player like myself. The bookmatching is exquisite almost to the point of wondering if the top is actually a photo, but the variation is slight, so I'm inclined towards it being real. The fretboard does look a little on the dry side and the only inlay is a fancy swirl that spans from fret 11 to 13. Side markers are present on the cream edge binding. The only real flaw to mention is the binding on the body. Due to the shape of the cutaway ending on a sharp looking edge, the top or shelf of the cutaway is a separate piece of wood and the binding separates this from the rest of the side. The top binding employs a mitre join to try and keep the cream/black/cream line constant. The join is almost seamless, but at close inspection, you can see it, but hey! what do you want at this price point, marquetry?

This is a solid piece and the only trepedation I'd have with using it live is that it is a beautiful piece and not the type of instrument that you would like to see relic'd or battle scarred. I think the gloss finish is durable enough to live up to the type of road work that would be expected of an acoustic guitar. By that I mean, acoustic players are a bit different to heavy metal musicians, so generally tour in a slightly different manner. I would use this to gig without a back up and I anticipate that the only things that might cause the need for a back up would be string or battery failure.

I do have one slight concern about the instrument and that is the position of the tuner button. It is easily accidentally engaged when putting it in a hard case, as a dreadnought case is a snug fit on the width and the button is recessed, but not quite enough. I'm being picky though and that shows that I can't fault anything else.

I've not had to go down this road yet. I anticipate that the UK distributor would be very good at support, but I hope I never have to find out.

Ibanez make great guitars. I like many associate them with superstrat shaped rock machines, but their range is very diverse and deserve a look before dismissing the brand. They became known in the west for making high quality copies of American brand instruments. The quality was so good, that it was far superior to those American brands at the time. Now Ibanez have long since made original designs are are copied by other brands, including some of the big American names!

This instrument is a classy piece. It is almost a piece of furniture, but maintains it's true function as a very playable guitar. I'm not too sure on whether it is solid wood, or laminated, but the true test is this guitar desires to be played and gives a stunning performance. When you consider that the list price is around the ??300 mark which puts it against Yamaha APX, Tanglewoods, Takamines and Crafters in the a very competitive arena, it is no surprise that Ibanez have put so much thought into it. I think they have presented a different enough instrument into a crowded arena and it certainly stands on it's quality as oppose to gimmicks.

Gorgeous wood- quilted ash with a beautiful flawless finish, nice MOP 12th fret inlay kinda clashes with abalonette purfling, but I can get past that. Built-int "B-BAND" pickups with 3-band eq, presence, & volume knobs, and phase adj/tuner. The tuner doesn't work- it identifies every note as either E, A, or a 5th above the note you're actually playing, which leads me to believe there's a void somewhere between the piezo and the saddle, causing the pickup to pick up more harmonic than played note. I have a pedal tuner, so I can live with that too. Neck feels comfortable and familiar. Tuners are cheap & cheesy; one had a split teflon ring when it arrived, ALL tuners are loose & inconsistent.

Sound.... Hmmmm..... Well, with the factory strings, it sounded like a chimpanzee raping a chicken: scratchy and shrill. Change the strings, and it has a very nice voice, but the replacement strings only lasted a few days before going dead and dull. Not the guitar's fault- I'll put on some DRs and likely take care of that problem.Tone with good strings is full and infinitely variable with the EQ. I use the guitar for classic rock: the Who, Styx, etc., and it's okay for that.

Set up??? What's that??? My ass could set up a guitar better than Ibanez did this one. The wood and the finish are the only really good features this guitar has to offer. EVERYTHING else is obviously cut-rate crap. Strings buzz above the 11th fret, and neither humidity nor truss rod adjustment fixed that. BUT... I don't play acoustic that far up the neck, so I can live with it. Intonation is fair. THE THING THAT REALLY CHAPS MY ASS IS THAT THE PIUCKUP DIDN'T WORK WHEN I RECEIVED THE GUITAR, AND WHEN I REMOVED THE SADDLE TO CHECK THE PIEZO ALIGNMENT, THE FACTORY HAD CUT A FOUR-INCH PIECE OF PLASTIC ZIP TIE AND STUCK IT UNDER THE SADDLE TO RAISE THE ACTION ENOUGH TO ELIMINATE THE BUZZING AND FRETTING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Naturally the piezo couldn't work with a piece of soft plastic insulating it from the saddle, but when that was removed, the setup problems became apparent. THE BUILD QUALITY ON THIS GUITAR IS SHIT! I can't imagine why Ibanez would put such gorgeous wood into a guitar that utilized the very WORST of everything else.

Reliability/Durability : 4
Reliability seems okay, but I'm obsessive about caring for and maintaining my instruments. for the average Gigging Joe, I would count on replacing this guitar about every two years. No, I don't think it would take much abuse. Finish seems pretty thin and soft, but it's pretty!

I contacted Ibanez as soon as I received the guitar. That's been a week now, and they've not responded. 'nuff said.

I've played for 32 years now. My previous acoustic was also an Ibanez I bought USED in the late '70s, and it's in better shape now than this new guitar. I play Parker electrics exclusively.... eight of them ranging from a bone-stock factory second P-42 to a custom shop Fly Artist. I play Hughes & Kettner, Ashdown, & Trace Elliot amps, Dunbar Bagpipes, Rickenbacker basses, and King trumpets. To be fair and completely truthful, I bought this guitar at a steal of a price because it LOOKS good, and I assumed it would have some challenges. I wasn't disappointed on either count. I won't sell it soon, but I wouldn't have another one.

I have always wanted a true bright acoustic sound not loud like Seagull, etc. but loud enough.
It sounded GREAT through my small Roland micro cube ! REALLY
It sounded better through the Fender Acoustic amps better than some of the more expensive guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The strings came high at 12th fret for my liking I checked another out of the box new it was the same.
the 6th string sits about 5/32" at 12th fret a little high for me.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I see NO defects, no excess glue, no screw ups, etc.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no problems yet
The guitar except for electronics is LIFETIME warranted !

Overall Rating : 10
