This is a full dradnaught cutaway acoustic electric guitar. The body, neck and fretboard really are beautiful. The top and body are laminated woods that appear to be very good quality. Looking inside the body, the bracing and reinforcements are beautifully constructed. This is a Chinese made guitar at the top of the Kay range. The electronics work well and while used infrequently, sound great. The tuners are enclosed and adjust smoothly and hold perfectly.

Sound : 8
Full rich and particularily clean sound. A little towards the bright side but not unplesantly so. The stock strings sounded fine and held tune but the were a but heavy so I changed to a lighter set to allow easier note bending. I play mostly acoustic and use the electronics only occassionally and the pickups and adjustments sound fantastic. After four months of comparisons with other guitars, even the Seagull S6 I have purchased since, I am really pleased at how this Kay dreadnaught sounds compared to even significantly more expensive guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Straight out of the box this guitar's action was excellent. I get clear notes and tones all the way up and down the fretboard with only occassional buzzing, which disappears when I finger closer to the fret. The Seagull is even a tad closer action but I get more buzz on it and the B string sings sometimes.

Reliability/Durability : 9
So far I see no reason to believe this guitar will not last a long time. I have no problems with anything on it. The gloss laquer top coat protects the guitar well and looks great. It has survived bumps aginst furniture and the music stand remarkably well. The ivory plastic binding atount the top and bottom of the body and up and down the neck seems beautifully done. The electronics, while used infrequently, are still rock solid and trouble free as well.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not tried.

Overall Rating : 9
This guitar sounds very good and looks very good. It is more attractive, in my opinion, than most of the more expensive sunburst models availabl at guitar shops. I've now bought and sold six acoustics now and still own three. I do not see myself selling this one as it feels, plays and looks so good even compared to much more expensive guitars.
