The Kona K2 Thinbody acoustic/electric guitar has a spruce top, nato back and sides plus full binding on body neck and headstock. An active pickup with bass, middle, and treble is included. The bridge and fretboard are rosewood and the finish is a high gloss. This guitar is made in China and was bought in March 2007. Considering the price there are more features than you would expect.

The sound is surprisingly loud for a thinline in this price range. I compared it side by side with a Washburn Flint Hill model which is about 8 times the price. The Washburn was only slightly louder, and had considerately more bass, but remember it was 6" deep as opposed to the Kona which is only 3" deep. The Kona had decent sustain, but the bass drops off quick and the majority of the sustain is in the middle and the highs. The Washburns sustain carried the full frequency response and had a blooming effect. Overall the Kona sounding very good for it's price. Amplified it sounded good.

The guitar has numerous small cosmetic flaws, totally expected for it's price range. The frets are not smooth at the edges, but are all seated properly. The pre-amp was affixed securely, and inside the soundhole the bracing appeared properly aligned with no smearing of glue. The guitar's setup was very good. After tuning it up the action was reasonably low, with no fret buzz, and very good intonation. I was surprised as some indicated the action was high when tuned properly. Overall It was setup better than some expensive guitars, although I may I have just been lucky.

The guitar seem solid and the hardware is attached properly, although it is certainly cheap. I would use it at a gig with a backup, until enough time passes and it proves itself worthy.

Been playing for 20 years, bass mostly. I would certainly buy another if it were lost. It is more comfortable to play than a dreadnought and the price is right. It is a fantastic value.

This is a 2004 thin body K2. It is probably a foreign manufacture but whoever did it knew what they were doing, it's great. It's a cutaway dreadnaught body that's only 3" deep. The gloss finish is transparent and perfectly flawless. The top appears at the sound hole to be solid spruce, the back and sides are mahogony/nato. It is beautifully bound body, neck and around the custom shaped head stock. The bridge is custom shaped rosewood (which matches the head stock) as is the fretboard. There are nickel-silver frets and faux-pearl dot position marker inlays. The enclosed die cast gold tone tuners give it that princely look for a paupers price. The Kona logo is a pearl inlay too for an added touch of fancy. It comes with 2 pick guards, traditional black and custom tortoise shell that matches the bridge, head and wood(really a no brainer choice). They even throw in a cleaning cloth. There is an active pick-up with 3 band EQ/volume. Adjustable truss rod with wrench included. Both strap pins in place from the factory solid and well positioned.

I play mostly bluegrass, contemporary Christian and folk music so I was a little concerned about the loss of lows in the purchase of a thin body...DON'T BE. This has full bodied lows and nice bright highs and great volume. You don't have to beat on it to make sound. It's just there. But wait 'til you plug it in...WOW! It's a really nice acoustic is a GREAT electic! I've had friends put down their Martins for a shot at my $100 Kona. No Kidding! It lends itself well to picking as well as strumming. Just a good all around choice.

This is where I personally wanted something a little different. The factory setup was good but a little high for my taste and fingers. It came with d'Adarrio strings (not a personal favorite) so that was one of the first things I set out to do. When I went to pull the pegs 3 of the 6 broke off in the guitar! No big deal, but I didn't want to have to pop them from the back so I took the guitar to the shop and had the action lowered and Elixers Lights put on. Now this is a whole new animal! I Love It! The electronics work very well. I like the fact that the pick-up is not the strap hole so there is no extra stress there. It does seem to need tuning adjustments every couple days but what guitar doesn't? It has a narrow neck much more typical of an electric so "fat fingers" could be a nusance for some people but I love it.

Everything seems solid enough. Right now it's the only guitar I own and it's getting a lot of use. It's going places, even took a minor fall off it's stand last week without a scratch. I'm depending on it.

The Texas company that makes these offers a 5 year warranty. I called them about the broken pegs they immediately sent me a dozen free of charge. I can't imagine needing 12 pegs for the rest of the life of this guitar. They were great.

If my Kona were lost or stolen I would buy another one. It is an excellent value. It is not the last guitar I will ever own but it most certainly is one I will keep. It has a place in the home of every player if as nothing more than an excellent inexpensive backup.

Spruce body, decent pickup (for a $150 guitar), fretwires look a bit cheapy (we'll see how they hold up), Thinline resonator, came with Kona strings, peg wrench, two different pickguards that don't fit exactly, but look good enough.

I got it as a first guitar to learn off of. I've played guitars before, this does not sound like $150 guitar, sounds like it should cost twice as much. I use it through a Boss VF1's acoustic patches, it sounds great, very 60's rock. The sound is rich and full. My only dislike is the cheap pickup, but this can obviously be replaced. Seems too noisy and picks up every kind of fret noise imaginable.

For a mass produced Chinese gulag job, it's made very nicely. I've only had it a month or so, so we'll see how it holds up. Tuning pegs aren't the best, but it's good for your ears to tune your guitar every time you pick it up to play.

I'm not good enough to play live, so I can't comment on that. I would probably go for something more rugged if I was playing live alot.

Never talked to them, never had to yet. I hear Kona is a division of Dean guitars.

The Kona K2 is a basic thinbody acoustic/electric guitar with a laminated spruce top. Probably made in China. Nice binding all around. Neck is thin and easy to play. Neatly shaped bridge (kind of like a Dean). Gold colored tuning pegs. Easy to adjust electronics. Just a basic guitar in appearance.....but what an incredible bang for the buck!!!

Incredible sound especially when plugged in, even when plugged into a small 10-watt Crate practice amp. Not bad unplugged either but it's a thinbody so projection isn't terrific. Everyone who has heard this guitar and has played it can't believe the perfect intonation and rich sound of this "cheap' guitar. Just an INCREDIBLE sound .. regardless of price.

Very good finish, several small flaws but you have to look closely to find them. Glossy, very pretty in my opinion. Comes with 2 pick guards (one is black and traditional in shape, the other is tortise shell and kind of funky in shape). You choose the one to install. I installed the tortise shell because the color matches the sides and back better.
The action and fit couldn't be better. No adjustments required. Low action, almost like an electric without any fret buzz anywhere. I even changed the strings to extra light to work on barre chords without any problems at all. I can play chords on this guitar that I had given up on forming on my Fender DG20 because of the low action the Kona has. I couldn't be happier with the fit, finish and action. I bought this guitar through an online auction sight unseen and was a little worried about the claims being made by other players until I opened the box and tuned the guitar for the first time. Believe the rave reviews on the Kona guitars!

I play in a praise band weekly on Sunday evenings. I've only owned this guitar for about 2 months. No problems at all in that short amount of time. It seems to be well built, the strap buttons seem solid. I think the K2 will last as well as most other guitars given proper handling. I did buy the hardshell case for the K2 after I bought the guitar. I planned on using an existing SKB case but just didn't like the way it fit. I'm glad I spend the extra $60 for the Kona case. It's a great fit and is really impressive.

I bought the guitar online from P-Hill (Great ebayer by the way) and haven't had to work with Kona yet. The warranty is for 5-years. I feel certain that Kona will be support their customers. They've got a great product at a fantastic price....why mess up a good thing by not working with their customers?

I have played guitar for over 10 years but am really still a beginner. I really, really, really like this guitar. It is perfect for what I use a guitar for....personal enjoyment and playing at church but has more potential than just that!! I would definitely replace the K2 with another Kona without second thoughts if it were lost or stolen. It is a better sounding and playing guitar than my Fender DG20S ($300). I've played Sigma, Ovation, Washburn, Harmony, Conn and Kent (all $100 to $400 models) over the years. I honestly feel the Kona K2 is as good as or better than any of these in that price range. Can you tell I am happy with my purchase?

Made 2003 in China, this thin body guitar is the BEST value I have ever come across.Solid spruce top with nato neck, sides and back.Comes with two different pick gaurds to choose from, traditional and modern.
Very comfortable to play.I had to set it up the way I wanted, the action was a little high.A nice hard shell case is available at a very reasonable price.

These guitars have a decent warranty but I have not had to contact customer service. The company is in Texas and I have no doubt that they would be above average in their service.Again the factory setup could be better but with a little tweak here and there you can not beat this guitar!

I love this guitar so much I may buy a quantity of them just to sell to the people who have played mine and want one. These guitars are a outstanding value.Again the factory setup could be much better but overall I want more of these guitars. You can find them for $100 sometimes. And the case that's available is very nice and very affordable.

made 2002 ,japan with parts made in u.s. a texas based company has a cut away body with a laminated top,3 band e.q.w/volume control. Mahogany sides and back , rosewood bridge and fingerboard , has pearl dot inlays and gold machines and a highly glossed finish.the neck is a little shorter than other guitars but this may be an advantage for some. For me it's perfect. While this guitar comes in natural color I lucked up on a sunburst which I found out from the seller that this color was accidently made and shipped out to him .If you see another sunburst it is a rare item. I spoke to the factory rep. about this he said he would love to see it.A fitted hard shell case is currently being made for this particular style.

The band I am with plays prgressive christian rock with a little southern rock mixed in and this guitar goes great with this sound It's currently being played through a fender stage 160, although this is not an acoustic amp it does well for now. With the bass up and the mid and treble halfway it gives a very warm and rich sound.Everyone who has played it has been very impressed with the sound. This guitar sounds just as good plugged in as it does unplugged. It's perfect for any setting but does better when playing soft ballad or praise type music.

The factory done an exellent job setting this guitar up! strings are perfectly placed and is easy to chord. It comes from the factory with d'addario strings which tend to ring a little but is not a factor, this could be fixed with a different set of strings. I also have found some chip-out around the area where the soundboard and binding meet, but it does not affect playing or sound.this flaw is barley noticeable. One flaw on mine is a very small smudge near the soundhole. In a sence it just adds to it's character.

This guitar has been played live every night for one entire week and has so far held up great, although i have only had this guitar about a month it has been played very much. The strap buttons are solid but the top one could have been placed differently,it tends to lean outwardly when it's not being played. I would not use any guitar without a back-up, this one would probaly be o.k.

I would recommend this guitar for a beginner or for the most experienced player.I myself have not been playing but about 6 months but I feel i have gotten a terrific deal. Our guitar player in our band has been playing for 9 years and he was throughly impressed with this guitar when he played it on stage. With no feedback and no tuning problems occuring you can't go wrong with this deal. As hard as it is to believe it's an awesome guitar for an afforadable price. If I lost it or was stolen i would buy another one, definitly.

2002 model. made in china from US parts. a fort worth, texas company. I bought this guitar brand new at a pawn shop, and was really surprised at the sound and quality of this guitar. It is a thinline single cutaway acoustic/electric with a three band eq and volume control. The spruce top is laminated as well as the mahogany back and sides. the bridge is real wood(rosewood?) and it has real binding and a backstripe. the neck is mahogany and the fingerboard is rosewood, and is also bound, as well as the headstock. has dot inlays, and actual gold die cast machines. finished in high gloss.

the reason i bought this guitar is because of the way it sounded. it has a surprisingly good tone despite its thin body. it sounds better than any other guitar in its price range. i play this guitar plugged through a direct box into a house PA, and it sounds good. a little light on the bass side, but expected, however, you can play really hard without it sounding muddy.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action on this guitar is low, almost like an electric, which is the way i like it. i have not had to adjust the action. the only problem is that you might get some buzzing if you don't fret behind the fret, but i have found this not to be an issue. all of the joints are tight and the inside is very clean, with no glue drips, and all of the braces are carved and fit nicely. the finish is flawless and rubbed to a high gloss. the only thing wrong is there is some chip-out of the soundboard where it meets the binding. it's not that noticeable, but that's what you get in this price range.

I have been playing for 14 years, primarily electrics. this is my first acoustic/electric. I played just about every guitar in its price range only to be disappointed. I specifically went shopping for a thinline and the only other one i found in this price range was an Applause--it sucked. for the money, this is the best guitar you can buy. you will be surprised at the tone of this guitar. i intend to upgrade to something with solid wood tops and back/sides, but until then this one get plenty of use. when i showed it to a couple of fellow pickers, they were absolutely amazed at not only the quality of this guitar, but that you can get one at a pawn shop.
