The guitar's all solid... 1 piece rosewood back, and rosewood sides. The spruce top is nicely figured and sometimes the grains will jump out to more of a 3D shine under certain lighting, much like a PRS.

The shape of the guitar is parlor-like. But don't let the size deceive you. This guitar has been very well voiced.

Sound : 9
I was looking for an acoustic that sounds different... made with good quality materials... good fit and finish... and easy to play. I found the right match.

The guitar has a lot of character. The bass is punchy and deep, the mids are warm and defined, and the highs are soft, but pronounced well.

The guitar's volume and tone are not sacrificed by the size. it sustains so well! I was comparing it to other guitars that I was considering, and it really sounded as good to me as guitars that were double the price (and half the quality). Was a no brainer.

I love the sound. But there is a little bit of a natural compression... not much though. It's not perfect, but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Fit and finish is top notch. No extra glue. Top notch materials. The binding and finish are very clean... and the abalone was set with no gaps.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar will be very reliable, if you treat it well. I will not do a lot of gigging with this guitar. This is a parlor/boutique style guitar.

I'll mainly use it for recording and lazy sunday afternoons.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for almost 15 years now. I've owned many guitars (gibson, Yairi, PRS, fender, ESP, BC Rich USA, Brian Moore, Yamaha, Fernandes, etc.) and have never felt a connection to a guitar like I do this one.

This guitar feels like it lives and breathes. It's hard to put into words... but I don't think I will need to buy another steel string acoustic again.

Since I bought this guitar used, the nearest I can tell is that it's a 1997. It was manufactured in Vancouver. I bought this guitar because of it's small size (14" lower bout) - dreadnoughts are just too big for me and give me shoulder problems. The guitar is all solid wood - spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back, mahogany (I think) neck with an ebony fretboard and headstock. THere are 12 frets to the body; 1-3/4" at the nut. THe fretboard has white binding; the body black binding. There are really tiny dot inlays on the fretboard and really nice mother of pearl border and a "Larivee" inlay on the headstock. THere is mother of pearl at the soundhole. THe finish is gloss. They didn't make any attempt to stain the ebony so that it is consistently dark so the lighter streaks in the wood show through - I think it looks really nice like that. This is a really beautiful guitar. The guitar came with a hardshell case, a "Larivee" pick (I can't believe the former owner still had it) and a truss rod tool.

I play blues, folk, rock on this guitar - both finger picking and flat picking. Despite it's small size, the tone is beautiful. It may not project as well as a dreadnought, but the sound this guitar can produce went beyond my expectations (I bought it off a website, so I took a chance without playing it beforehand - I was desperate for a small guitar). I even use it for playing slide and have been very happy with the versatility.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
With the exception of finish that sank into the pores of the rosewood a little bit (gives the guitar a little texture), this thing is flawless. The wood is beautiful, the inlay is perfect, the setup was perfect for my playing style.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have every expectation that this guitar will last my lifetime if I take good care of it. I drag it around with me (the case is very well padded) to lessons and playing with friends and it hasn't been worse for the wear. I have an acoustic electric that I use for live situations - one I don't mind destroying. Larrivees don't come with strap buttons, so I had to get them installed. It has a clear pick guard, so I'm not sure how that will hold up either.

I bought it used through Elderly Instruments who I've dealt with before - they're the best. I don't think the original warranty is transferable, so I doubt I'll be dealing directly with Larrivee.

I've been playing for 30 years and this is about the ninth acoustic guitar I've owned (I currently have four others). This is by far the best acoustic I've ever owned (also the most expensive). Even though the 12 frets to the neck is a little limiting, I wouldn't trade this guitar for anything (I've even recovered from my arm and neck problems caused by playing a larger guitar). I never would have expected to be this happy with such a puny guitar, but I really love it and would be heartbroken if it were stolen.
