I believe my D02E is a 1999 model.....
I just got it off an online guitar store.....I believe they discontinued this model a year ago and the D02 is now replaced by the D03.

The D02E...if you can still get a hold of one is a wonderful guitar. The guitar comes with a fishman prefix deluxe pickup system, which is very nice, cause you don't have to turn it on?it is self activating when it is plugged in.

This guitar is a pretty good entry level nice guitar and features is not the main issue for this guitar. The tone and sound that comes from this guitar is like a Taylor. Also, the guitar comes with Elixir strings, which is an added bonus.

For the price you pay....you get mahogany sides and back...and a spruce top....you can't beat that.....plus i got a case thrown in also

Sound : 10
sounds like a taylor....what can i say....

The guitar doesn't buzz....sounds great..looks great

The guitar is bright..but has good balance

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything seems like its fine.
The guitar is sturdy.

Customer Support : 9
Yes.....the customer support is great.
I've emailed them...prior to buying this guitar about questions I had...they always responed in a timely manner, also very polite

Lifetime warranty baby!!

Overall Rating : 10
I was considering a Martin DM also and a Guild DV-4.
However, the DM was much too bright in sounds and the construction seemed very thin and poor quality (hence the affordable price for a Martin). The Guild on the other hand was much too bassy and was too heavy both in tone and literally in weight.

Larrivee are good value guitar and very proud of it

This is my fifth guitar since I started playing about 4 years back. From laminated top Epiphone , to a ovation ,to a Norman, Morris ( 82 solid spruce top ) finally a good guitar. If you can afford to pay about $900 canadian for a full solid body guitar go for it. I know guitars can cost as much which offer a pickup, a plywood body with a solid top. For the money you pay .. the best value you can get in terms of sound and quality. A definite buy .. btw prices is going up for this guitar, and it is in back order. So if you are in the market for a guitar and contemplating for a larrive .... buy it ! You will not regret this purchase.

2000 model made in Vancouver, B.C., 20 frets, solid spruce top, solid mahoganey back and sides, Fishman Deluxe SC pickup, satin finish, ebony fretboard, dreadnought body style, Ping chrome tuners, with black hard shell case. Nothing fancy to look at but the Fishman is a nice extra.

Sound : 9
This guitar has a sweet and clear sound. The sound is really excellent for a guitar in this price range; crisp, tight and loud. I play easy rock and basic fingerpicking style. I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet as I don't have an amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This thing plays very well and feels great. The action was a bit high so a twist on the truss rod helped. Now its great. I can't see any thing wrong with the materials. I read that the 02 series uses lower quality materials but I can't tell. Book matching is excellent. The neck feels and plays smooth. No glue spots anywhere inside. Satin finish and clear pick guard look classy. Tuners feel smooth and solid.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
This guitar comes with instructions on keeping it humidified. All solid wood guitars need special care to prevent damage from too much or too little moisture. The finish is only one coat so it may wear if abused. It hasn't yet but I treat her right. She's very solid but light.

Customer Support : 9
They have a great website - lifetime warranty.

Iv'e been playing about 25 years on and off. I decided recently to get a new guitar as I've been without one for 1 year and missed it. I shopped arouind alot and played many guitars. I saw too many guitars in this price range that were just fancy versions of basically cheap ones. This thing reminds me of a Taylor 310. But I'm not willing to spend $900. The guy I bought this from has many on eBay and his prices are great. WHere else can you get a quality name solid wood guitar with Fishman pickup and a hard shell case under $600? (includes express shipping) Go play one, then buy one.

I lead worship at my church and this baby cuts through the mix sooo well. I like it a lot better than most of my friends Taylors and Martin's. Full Sound, Sometimes i think I left if plugged in the P.A. Suite's me perfectly well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great factory set up, Kept everything the same, nothing wrong. I installed my own upper strap button.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I don't really have lot of money, so I use this without a backup. I play it at least 4-5 times a week and people always want to borrow it.

Never had any, but I hope it's good.

I've been playing for 4 years now. I would buy a D05 if this got stolen, but lets not talk about that, i don't want to cry. Great Guitar, God Bless

Sound : 10
Best sounding acousic I have played in a long time, everything is balanced perfectly, electrically it sounds great thanks to the Fishman. Acoustically it sounds very, very good. Neck is very comfortable. I like it better than my friends Taylor 710, no kidding.
For the money, nothing comes close...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up at factory excellent, Came with Elixer strings, which makes a diff. I have Daddarios EJ16 on now but might go back to Elixers...I want the action a little lower though...

Reliability/Durability : 10
So far so good, I play gigs 4 nights a week and it is doing fine.

Looks like I may have paid too much, but there was a waiting period for 6 months and I had to have this guitar so, it was worth it. I think the case would be worth well over $100, so without case it would have been $640, oh well, this guitar is great!

This 2000 model is made in Vancouver, B.C. It has a spruce top with mahogony sides and back. The satin finish is nice. The SB electronics work well and the pull-out, tip-out accessability for the battery change on the electronics is easy access. The Larivee tuning pegs hold well.

Sound : 10
I play both stand alone acoustic as well as amplified acoustic and this guitar sounds great in both situations. For the price it sounds every bit as good as a Martin Dreadnought or the Taylor!! There isn't anything about the sound I don't like.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is one tight guitar with an awesome fit. I really enjoy the natural finish look. The action on the fret board from the factory is the smoothest I've ever played on an acoustic and I own four other acoustic guitars plus an electric Gibson Custom SG double cut away. I'll play my Larivee before any of others!

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've palyed it on stage and around young kids who always want to try it out and it holds up well! So far the finish has held up well.

Customer Support : 10
This guitar has a limited lifetime warranty and as long as you take of it, they'll take care of you.

Overall Rating : 10
I really love the sound with and without amplification. I tried six other guitars including a Martin Dreadnought and a Taylor, but this one felt and sounded great. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quality sound for a reasonable price.

I got it in early 2000, It was bought from a guitar center in NJ. It is a vey natural guitar. It has a fishman Deluxe Pickup that sounds great.

Sound : 10
Sound on this guitar is unreal for the price. Compare to 2000+ Martins.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Finish is very beautiful, It is a great sized guitar. Action id quite perfect. Everything is in very perect state.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this guitar is mostlikely going to last longer than i will. It is great. Sounds great. The finish is natural so this guitar will sound better and better as it ages.

This dreadnought guitar is handmade in Canada and has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany (probably Sepele) back and sides all with a satin finish. It comes with factory installed Fishman active electronics ( 3band EQ with adjustable notch filter, brilliance control and phase switch). The battery is easily accessable by tipping out the EQ control panel. The tuners are Larrivee. They operate very smoothly and stay where you tell them to. String spacing seems to be slightly wider which makes playing this instrument a joy.

Sound : 9
Excellent sound for the money. I would like to hear a bit more on the bottom end but overall very even throughout with nice clean, crisp highs. I was originaly going to purchase a Martin DM, but for the price and the electronics (the Martin doesn't have electronics) I could deal with the minor defficiency in the low end. The other (minor) thing I didn't like straight of the rack was the slight fret buzz from the action being a bit low.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory action was a bit low, but with minor adjustments to the truss rod and bridge, it feels very nice now. The top was properly matched and had some figure which gave this otherwise plain in appearance instrument a bit of personality. The joints were tight and all fit well although there was a noticeable glueline left on the heal to body joint (cosmetic only). One cosmetic flaw on the back (in the grain) but nothing structuraly detrimental.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Although I would like to have seen a bit more finish on the top, the instrument is very well built and would stand up under reasonable wear and tear.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
After examining and playing a dozen or so guitars in this price range (including Martin, Takamine, Sigma, Yamaha)I settled on the Larrivee. I was most sold on the Martin DM sound, but the Larrivee is so close and with the added features of totaly solid wood construction and the factory installed Fishman electronics, The choice for me was obvious.
Good, solid wood construction, excellent sound and with just a little tweeking by my neighborhood luthier - excellent playability.

All solid wood construction with mahogany back and sides with spruce top. Fishman deluxe SC electronics. Satin finish with ebony fretboard and bridge.

Sound : 10
The sound is better than any other that I have seen in this price range. It really rivals that of guitars that are twice the price.
It is very full, rich and loud. I also own a Taylor 710. It does not sound as good as that but it is pretty close and they Taylor is more than twice the price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was wonderfull on this guitar. The top was matched very well. I could not find any finish flaws at all. It did find some minor cosmetic imperfections in the wood of the neck and body (one on each). They are cosmetic only and they are not bad by any means. I am just being a little picky!

Reliability/Durability : 8
It seems that this guitar has been well constructed. I would may like to see at least a gloss finish on the top for durability reasons. I am a bit worried that the satin finish may not last as well over time.

I bought a 99 Larrivee D02E. It has a satin finished solid spruce top, Fishman active pickup w/ bass, treble, and volume control, solid sapele back and sides, and ebony fretboard.

Sound : 8
I love the sound of this guitar. It booms with balance like a good dreadnought should. Acoustically the sound is almost perfect. Through the pickup it also sounds great but I could stand to have a little more balance with the lower frequencies. However, I'm comparing the sound to much more expensive guitars so it isn't really fair. For the price this is by far the best sounding guitar I have come across.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
How well it plays was one of the biggest reasons I bought this guitar. I also have a Taylor 810 and I like playing my Larrivee more. It doesn't sound as good, but with the lighter strings it plays effortless. Fit and finish are excellent. Almost no errors.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar will certainly withstand live playing. I have gigged with it alot and I have had no problems.

Customer Support : 10
I have dealt with the company and they were extremely prompt and right on.

Overall Rating : 10
I have alot of fine equipment in my day. This is an incdedible value for a nice acoustic electric. I would by another one in a heartbeat.
