Sound

I play blues, folk, fingerpicking, sometimes even jazz, and it follows me everywhere! Rich sound in any direction... bass, middle, treble, plenty of tones; any kind of sound you want... just call it and it comes! Very important sustain
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Perfectly set-up, even if the action is slightly lower than I'm used to; the neck is amazingly comfortable, despite of its low wideness!
The finish is absolutely great; just one very small (.2 mm) discontinuity on the gloss.
Reliability/Durability

It looks and sounds like it will last forever, the sound getting better every time you play it. It's a great pleasure to have it in my hands, every day more!

1996 made in Vancouver, cedar top / rosewood back and sides. Supposedly the last left handed cedar top Larrivee made. Had fairly crappy sounding Fishman prefix pickup in it, but I put in a new B-band A8 and it sounds great. Beautiful abolone soundhole rosette. Clear pickguard.
Sound
:10
Wow - beautiful, warm, balanced, both fingerstyle and picked. Amazing sustain and resonance. Layers of overtones. Lots of head room, bright highs, but warm middle and bass. Elixer lights = righteous. Bell tones that just ring and ring. The B-band sounds great plugged in, good enough to not mike it, often even without eq or effects.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Good action, no flaws, incredible woods. Inlay is beautiful. Real wood binding, real bone saddle and nut.

Finish has protected the cedar top wonderfully. Everything is solid. Easy to gig with. Excellent, tight case. Tuners are reliable and accurate.

Playing for 20 years or so, almost bought a Taylor 714 because I like the cedar/rosewood thing, but I like the Larrivee better, even though its a dread. Also looks very classy, subtle, I like the real wood binding. I think the sound is about halfway between Taylor and Martin, with a richness I haven't heard in any other guitar I've played; and with playability like a Taylor. I have played several of each since buying this one, and I wouldn't trade it for anything I've played yet. If it was stolen, I guess I would have to special order another cedar / rosewood guitar from Larrivee, because I've grown quite attached.

My Larrivee was made in 2001 and was given to me as a gift from God in memory of a friend of mine who died last year. This is the Ferrari of guitars to me and has been my dream guitar for years. I've had it for over a year now and I feel extremely blessed to own it. For the money and sound, this guitar is where it's at. I wasn't interested in tons of expensive and non-sound producing inlays. This guitar only has one inlay around the sound hole. The Sitka spruce top,Indian rosewood back and sides, and Fishman Prefix Blender Pro were what I was after. These woods offer about the best sound you can get without selling your children.
Sound
:10
The sound that comes out of this axe is perfectly balanced for my folk rock style. Other high end guitars are too bassy and lack highs, or vicea-versa. The D-09E, however, is just right. The highs ring and the bass complements them perfectly. The Fishman Prefix Blender Pro pickup adds a mic to this guitar making it sound incredible when plugged in. Every slap or harmonic is clearly processed and brings this guitar to life. The only strings I play with this guitar are Elixir Nanoweb lights. My Crate CA125 amp complements this guitar perfectly. Trust me, I've played MANY high end guitars from just about every manufacturer you can name. The D-09E definately stands up with the "best" of them. The volume level unplugged on this guitar is loud. I have a strong voice and the volume of this guitar can easily match me when I'm singing my loudest. Even when playing with percussion, another guitar, and a volin (all unplugged), this guitar leads the way for my band in volume, even with 90 other people singing with us! Forgive me for writing so much here, but the amazing sound quality of this guitar cannot be adequately explained.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I'm about as picky as it gets when it comes to quality things. The construction on my guitar was flawless. The action right from the factory was just about on the money. I adjusted it a little with the provided truss rod tool. Now it is money! One very nice thing is that the pickup jack is secured with a locking washer. If you've ever had that guitar where the jack keeps coming loose, you know this is a very necessary washer.
Reliability/Durability

I have regularly logged about 15 hours of play time on this guitar per week. I took it on tour with me this summer and it beautifully withstood HEAVY use and travel for 2.5 months and 14,000 miles on the road. The pick guard goes all the way up to the sound hole...thank you Larrivee!! I completely wore away the wood from the pick guard to the sound hole on my other guitar because the guard stops short. NO wood wear at all on my Larrivee. Since the pick guard is clear, it shows off the sound hole inlay without letting you destroy it with your pick.

I take extremely good care of all my gear...proper humidity and storage ALWAYS. Unfortunately, my Larrivee's top cracked from the bottom of the guitar up to the saddle after a year of use. Guitar Center treated me like a king. They sent the guitar to an authorized Larrivee repair guy, free of charge. After receiving the repaired guitar, I wasn't satisfied with the repair job. The repairer attempted to patch my finish. This is like painting one panel of a car...it doesn't look good at all. The store manager saw this flaw and Guitar Center ordered me a new guitar! Despite the crack in my guitar, the D-09's sound quality didn't suffer at all! I have one of the pickiest ears I know...trust me. Perhaps it's Guitar Center who deserves the 10 rating, but in the end, it is Larrivee standing behind their product.

I have played in many many venues across the country. Often, someone will come up to me and ask, "How do you get your guitar to sound like that?!" I put a touch of chorus and reverb on it through my amp, but other than that, that's it. This guitar simply has an amazing sound. When recording in the studio, the engineers don't have to do a thing to tweak the sound on this guitar. They say it sounds perfect the way it is. For it's price, this guitar is a deal. For guitars between $2,500 and $4,000, most of what you're paying for is inlays or some exotic wood. If you're after pure, clean, loud, balanced sound, the D-09E is with the best of the best in any price range. Please email me with any questions or comments you may have. Feel free to visit my band's web site at www.broken-string.com God bless!

2001 Larrivee D-09 made in Canada--ehh. Solid Sitka Spruce top with a lovely bear-claw design that has a bit of a cherry, rosey complexion. Indian rosewood sides and back. Mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard. Dreadnought style. I bought this guitar about 5 months ago at a privately owned acoustic instrument store that had a wonderful selection of fine acoustic guitars that ranged from 1 grand to 5 grand, as well as other instruments. I by no means bought this guitar because of its looks, but I'd have to say it was probably one of the nicest or the nicest looking guitar in the store. One more little feature that larrivee is know for is it's transparent pickgaurds
Sound

For the price, larrivee probably puts out the best sounding guitars. The store that I bought it at had a $5000 1990 special edition Martin HD-28 with brazilian rosewood sides and back that I used as my "reference guitar". Of course that guitar is out of my price range, but it gave me a baseline to compare other guitars, as well as other high end acoustics such as Santa Cruz, John Goodall (spelling?), Taylor, and some others that for some reason I can't think of now. The Martin had the traditional booming bass that you get with Martin's cream of the crop guitars, but otherwise it was just marginally better than the Larrivee. In an ideal world I would've taking the Martin but for price reasons, the Larrivee was the winner. I just wish the Larrivee's bottom E string had a little more body when hit with the pick...sounds great using the thumb though. Otherwise, everything is darn near perfectly balanced and tight sounding. Once again, I think it's about as good as it gets for the price
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Action was setup superbly at the factory. The only real beef I have with this guitar is it's relatively thin neck. It doesn't pose much of a problem, and plently of people might prefer it, but I would personally like to see it just a little bit thicker. The finish is excellent except for one little part. The inlay around the soundhole has a little crack or something right next to where it meets the neck. I didn't even notice it for probably 2 months, but in running my finger over it, I felt a little separation. No big deal though...at least I don't think

I don't have much experience beating up on this guitar, but it seems like it would take some abuse. I baby it too much though.

I've been playing for a couple of years now. Its my first "not a hunk of junk" acoustic, but I do feel as though I thourghly compared it to others and have a good idea of attributes of a fine acoustic guitar. If it got stolen and I had the money to buy another, I would. Larrivee has a great price point on their guitars.

When purchasing I compared it against a 60's martin D-35, 60's martin hd-28, brand new 7 series taylor, and a gibson cl-35. the Larrivee was by far the least expensive and by far the best sounding.

The Larrivee D09E is a standard size dreadnaught with solid sitka spruce top and indian rosewood sides and back. This particular guitar was ordered with a Fishman Matrix under saddle pickup (no external on board controls). It has a mahogany neck and enclosed tuners(Schaller I think?) Deluxe hardshell case included (with a nice polishing cloth and a few picks thrown in for good measure)
Sound

This guitar sings! Has a beautiful somewhat creamy sound; what you'd expect from a guitar constructed of solid woods. Bass notes sound unbelievable on this guitar. Definetely not as boomy as some Martins, but plenty loud enough with a very balanced tone. I can only suspect will sound better and better as time goes by.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action was set up just a little higher than some other D09's I had played previously (this guitar was a special order and was shipped to me). String height at the twelfth fret on the low-E string is a hefty 8/64" (i know, that's 1/8, but looks a little better). While a little higher than I'm accustomed to, not bad, and can definetely be adjusted at the bridge. Overall, quality is good; no glue marks, poor fits, etc.

This guitar seems to be built like a tank. As some others I've seen that posted about Larrivee's, I am a little bit nervous about the overkill Larrivee puts on warning about heat/humidity, etc., but maybe they're just wanting the owner to take good care of the instrument. By the way, this guitar is made in British Columbia, Canada, and I live down here in hot, muggy Mississippi. I guess I'll see how well it holds up to hot humid summers (I'll get back to you on that one.)

Seems to be pretty good customer support. I did actually get a response from Matthew Larrivee when shopping for a guitar. Definetely had a positive impact on me, and was one of the deciding factors on buying this guitar.

I have been playing for approximately 20 years, and am mainly a flat picker. I've only had this guitar about a week, so I'm doing a little bonding. I've got an approximately 18 year old Ibanez I've had since new, so this is the new boy in town. I decided on this guitar mainly because I was looking at purchasing a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model D, but as you can imagine, saved about 1400.00. I'll get the TR when I make my first million (ha-ha).

The equal quality in a Gibson or Martin figured out to be about 2 times as expensive. This model has better everything by far than a Martin D-35 as well as a Gibson Hummingbird. You can still buy these other brands but do yourself a big favor and at least give the Larrivees a try. For the same money, Larrivee will quite simply walk on anything you can find. In my opinion, they are simply the finest guitars on Earth... Just play one, you'll see for yourself...

This is a 2000 model, complete with a fishman pro-blender! The back and sides are made of rosewood, which both looks and sounds beautiful. Neck is mahogany and the top is spruce.

I can't say enough about the sound of this guitar. I spent hours playing martins, taylors, gibsons, and guilds...and none of them were quite like this larivee. The tones seem to come fairly equally from the entire frequency spectrum. Amazingly clear and full bass sound, a nice midrange, and beautifully articulate treble. I tend to play folksy singer/songwriter music...and this guitar is perfect for my needs. My only complaint is that I'm not a big fan of the elixir strings that come on it from the factory.

This guitar is a 2000 model and absolutely unbelievable. It has a solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, one piece mahogoney neck. It has abalone rossette around the sound hole. I purchased this guitar with a Fishman Transducer pickup. It is great!

I play mostly an aggressive flat picking style with some solo stuff. I like to consider my playing style simmiliar to Dave Matthews. For what I do, this guitar is just perfect. Its got a great tone to it. Its bright, but not to bright and those base notes shure to standout. There is anything more to say about it, except the sound in un-real.

I have been playing guitar for a while and have played most high end brands. I compared it to a Martin D-35, Martin D-28 and Martin HD-28 and I found that I was really liking the sound of the Larrivee, not to mention the attractive price. I also compared it to a Taylor 814CE, and I realized I cant get rid of a drednought size and Taylor drednoughts are SH/T!. Anyhow, I give this guitar a perfect 10 and the pickup is excellent too. I hope this helped any you all out who are lookin at Larrivee, because Martin aint what they used to be and I need a drednought, so HERE IS YOUR ANSWER!
