Features are indian rosewood a quality spruce top and a mahagony neck. The open geared tuners work very well dispite my predisposition.

I work at a larrivee dealer music store and this guitar was ordered for my father. I've very please with the features, this one even came with a bone nut dispite the website saying that it doesn't come with one.

Sound : 9
I've played many larrivees I must say that this is one of the better but not the most impressive. Howevere, it does pull off the bluegrass guitar (martin) sound very well.

Note: I find most martin guitars to be very pingy and although they have fantastic bass the mids get completely drowned out. This larrivee isn't as bad its much more balanced. I would say its like crossing a lv-09 with a martin d-28...

Personally I would just rather have the lv-09 but if you want a bluegrass guitar this is far better than the martin d-28

I want to say this from the start. Larrivee guitars are HAND MADE. Watch the tour on youtube then watch the taylor tour. taylor uses cncs to do everything from shape the neck the buff the guitar. The first human that touches a taylor is the guy stringing it.

That being said every larrivee that I've seen has some EXTREMELY MINOR flaws straight out of the box. This one for example has a area about 1/2 inch long on the very edge of the sound hold that is sanded slightly deeper than the rest of the sound hole bgut the high gloss finish over the top makes it impossible to see.

book matching and structural aspects are always perfect.

As far as the setup job goes its a matter of opinion. I think most people would agree that the action is slightly high on most larrivees. That because its far easier to lower the action than raise it, and since everybody has different preferences larrivee gets it close and lets a professional (or you) set it up to your specs for you.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will last forever if taken care of. You can play it in extreme climate conditions humidity 20%-80%. But you may experience fret buzz or high action and you will want to immediately restore the guitar to proper humidity when done.

That being said you CANNOT treat this guitar like a cheap washburn d10 or an old gibson. Thats because those guitars have much thicker bracing. Larrivee uses thin bracing and thin tops to create the beautiful sounds that you hear, its much more fragile than a tank like and old gibson... also much more beautiful sounding.

While dealing with larrivee it is best to inform them that you have kept very good care of your guitar and that you have a humidistat for your house and the guitar case (which you ALWAYS leave the guitar in). Then inform them that you have both humidifiers and dehumidifiers for your case and house and keep both at the suggested humidity. Furthermore, inform them that you only have the guitar inside of your car while in the case and with the car temperature already at 70degrees when you put the guitar in the car and that you took the guitar out as soon as you arived at your destination...

you always wear a belt buckle cover ect...

You need to make it VERY CLEAR that you did everything humanly possible to protect your guitar. Please be aware although nobody is this perfect when it comes to guitar care they will know very easily if you damaged the guitar by abuse such as leaving it in the car or humidity damage or just droping it.

If they think that you are to blame but aren't 100% sure they will more than likely fix the guitar free and charge you return shipping charge.

Also, if you lie to them about how an instrument was damaged they will become unhelpful very fast, they know if you are lying. (EX) "I just left the guitar in the case over night and the neck broke off"

Thats impossible, tell the truth they will charge you a very fair price to repair it, as its not in their best intrest to have broken larrivees floating around.

Larrivee guitar from my experience are the absolute best guitars in the $1000-$3000 range.

Your basic gorgeous roswood/sitka dreadnought. Maple body binding, ivoroid fretboard binding, stained ebony board and bridge, 20:1 vintage open tuning machines, no electronics, excellent arched-lid HSC.

Sound : 8
This is a beautiful-sounding instrument. Its tone is the lovely rich, broody, overtone-laden awesomeness you expect from an expertly crafted rosewood dread. Wonderful clarity, gorgeous but not overwhelming bass. Volume is good, but I would expect to be drowned out by, say, an HD-28. That is not an issue for me, however - I do not put a premium on volume alone, and if it were an issue I'd simply install electronics. IMHO, Larrivee's guitars are somewhat overbuilt in the bracing area, but this is a quality I happen to like. The solidity and integrity of construction is obvious, and while I think there is a bit of a trade-off in volume - at least initially - for me it is an excellent bargain. It's important to me to have a guitar that sounds great, but I also don't ever want to have to worry about its ability to survive being played the way I want to play it. After nearly five months, the guitar is already beginning to open up. It sounded fantastic on day one, sounds better not, and I can only imagine how great it's going to sound with a few years of break-in. I play in a schizophrenic hodge-podge of styles, and there is nothing that doesn't sound terrific on this instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Not sure about the factory setup, because the guitar underwent a dealer setup before shipping to me. It was received in excellent playing condition, with low, butter-smooth action and intonation as near-perfect as I've ever seen on an acoustic guitar. It is an absolutely beautiful instrument to look at, and I would have to say that in general, I do not think there is a major manufacturer on this planet that comes remotely close to Larrivee in the attention-to-detail department. Utterly flawless. Every time I open the case, I am floored by how gorgeous this thing is. Clearly every detail was given a lot of care. Qualitatively, this guitar goes to 11.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I may be stretching it a bit giving the guitar a 10 in this category considering that I am not a performer and have only had the instrument a few months; however, it is clear that this guitar has been constructed with exemplary attention to detail. It is very solidly built and cleanly executed, and I have no doubts whatsoever about its ability to outlive me so long as I treat it with the care it deserves.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience in this area. Hopefully I will never need customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
If you compare this guitar, spec for spec, against everything else being made on this continent, it simply smokes the crap out of the competition in terms of bang for buck. There are better guitars on the planet, certainly - but not a one that can remotely compete in terms of value. Not even close. This is unequivocally the best guitar I have ever owned.

If it were lost or stolen, I'm pretty sure I would lose my mind.

Brand spankin new from the factory in California. Solid Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood with mahogany neck, ebony board, maple binding and rosewood on the headstock face. The spruce top has nice bearclaw. Maple binding looks much better than Martins plastic. Herringbone around body, abalone around enlarged soundhole. Butterbean engraved tuners. Total prewar look all the way with the headstock volute and pleasing simple lines.

Huge tone. Can get picking hard and this thing delivers with sharp loud tone. It also plays well with a light touch. Very active guitar. It seems to work with me and dynamics come accross well well with this instrument. Bass is big but not overpowering, highs cut thru and nice growling mids. I was going for the tone of Johnny Cash's recent recordings. This guitar does that well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Setup isnt the greatest. The nut and saddle are both high. The nut could have been filed better all around. Not horrible but this guitar needs a setup. Slightly dead at 13th fret. This is very slight.

Good finish. Nice laquer on body and satin finish on neck. Looks fantastic. Some glue residue inside on bracing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I hope this will last as its a great guitar. Its built very well and I doubt I'll have any problems with it. At this level of guitar I expect good work and that is the case here.

Did not respond to my emails at all when inquiring about the D-60 and did not respond to a question sent via email after I purchased the D-60. Hope their phone support is better.

Great guitar. if you are looking for a pre war Martin like guitar this is a serious contender. I was looking for a good martin D-35 when I found Larrivee's new D-60 and it beat out all the D-35s I had tried out. I love the guitar. I am disappointed that Larrivee company does not answer my email. THey didnt answer a friend of mine either. Hey Larrivee - he wants to buy one too but you guys wouldnt answer his email. Lost points for that as a company only.
