The quality here is terrible. Not just Bad. No pride.
This a Custom Shop with Ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge, rosewood.
The neck is bent back (not forward), the truss rod is already so loose it could fall off. No way to repair without starting over.
The 16" radius fingerboard is actually concave from treble side to bass side from the 10th fret to the 15th fret, not arched. It actually dips down. The frets follow the dip as well. You could replane, refret, and start over.
The frets were real real rough. The strings sounded like scrapping when you try to bend a note over them. I had every one of the frets polished and now that is at least resolved.
The finish has bubbled. A hundred or so small holes all the way to the wood have appeared the size of a pencil point on the side (lower bout)
I emailed Martin several times and got no response. I phoned Martin support and they said "golly that doesn't sound good. Too bad it's not covered under warranty." Since it wasn't a warranty, they didn't care, and they didn't want to know: they might have to admit problems with an entire line or a period of production.
Anybody who buys a Martin and in particular a Custom Shop after reading this deserves what you get from C F Martin.
Bob Taylor just repaired an out of warranty guitar because he wanted to know what happened and he had pride in his products. Big guys like "CF the IVth" don't listen until they feel the financial pinch. The family pride has left the building.
