bought this new 1996. it has typical traditional martin detales, including scalloped solid spruce top c/w fine herring bone rosette.the back and sides are solid book matched mahogany c/w tortoise binding, heelcap, end piece and pickguard.it has a solid mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, inlaid with diamond and squares.it came with the thermal plastic hardshell case (super tough). The finish is satin and to me is not classic and wears smooth in spots that get more body or clothing contact.it is a ooo size being smaller and thinner than a dreadnaught. The 25.4" long scale neck is set into an A frame bracing.

Sound : 10
this guitar is as loud as my 1988 d28p martin but with the comfort of a smaller size. It has a loud responsive, but balenced sound when picked for solos or stumming. I play anything from rock, country to folk and this guitar will play perfect to them all. The one thing that truly stands out about this instrument is when finger picked it has an amazing respose and feel that resonates through the whole guitar and allows you to really get into the sound of the song

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I lowered the action but it was fine the way it came, I just like it a little lower. The craftsmaship is legedary for martin so i don't need to elaborate.I do not like the satin finish and would have paid extra for the gloss finish.I happend to be present when the Martin rep brought it to the store and to my surprise, with the guitar in the case was vacume sealed in plastic from the factory and had to be removed.Talk about protected from the elements.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I dont't gig with my instuments, used only at home but my martins are so well constucted that i would not be afraid to use them other than the fear of damage or these days theft. It has been said the satin finish will hide scratches and is tougher than a gloss finish,I don't know i take every precaution to avoid this.My d 28 had one issue that was fixed. The 00016T none.

Customer Support : 9
I have delt with martin and they are tops to deal with.Lifetime warranty. The repair was done by a factory autherized personel.I did have to drive 80 miles to drop it off, but picked it up a week later

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing guitar 30 yrs. and find it my refuge.I learned on the cheapies and have owned several highbreeds but now I own a fender telecaster custom, 1988 D28,1996 0016T and a 1994 gibson gospel. For a great acoustic sound I use a fender acoustasonic amp and it is awsome. My ooo has a special place in my collection and could not be replaced. If you like the large sound of a dreadnaught but not the size, this is the guitar for you

This guitar is really nice and quite mellow compared to other steel string instruments, and it has alot of punch. Not as loud maybe has some dreadnoughts, but more balance.I find its tone very addictive, and its bodyshape extremely comfortable.
