EMD12 12 string see maton website - be wary however the website photo does not demonstrate how tough this little guitar is.Two gripes here in the features - 1) the neck is stuck into the body with an ugly heel.(but atleast its a very small heel i suppose)and 2) the nut looks too much like cheap black plastic.

Sound : 10
Excellent! Sounds like a standard high end 12 string maton crossed with a ukulele. Nice woody sound! Don't worry about projection - I played this little thing in a church with no amplification to about 50 people and everyone heard me no problems. However try this thing amplified and you will know why people adore them so much. Ampified- incredible sound I AM NOT KIDDING - not the deep reasnonance though as with larger guitars - responds to pedals brilliantly though- even distortion!! very low feed back due to small body. great tone!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
very good. high action at the top due to its small size. does not have a truss rod adjustment which is interesting.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this thing is a tank. I put it in a rock case and chuck it on planes, into trucks, down roads on the back of scooters - so portable - LOVE IT!!

Mine's the EMD6 (Diesel Special) model. Standard sunburst paintwork. Basically the standard model. I was a little disappointed that they didn't offer customisation, but it being a 'special edition' and the fact that they were in short supply, I guess I can't be too picky.

I was after a custom southern cross fretboard inlay but got the thumbs down. Only comes in 1 colour too.

Awesome AP5 pickup is amazing!

The acoustic sound leaves a bit to be desired, but if you're after a guitar to play 'unplugged' then this one isn't for you. Fortunately for me, I usually play through big PA systems and it's awesome. It's got a better sound than a lot of it's bigger maton brothers.

I really like the sound that the blackwood guitars from Maton produce. I almost bought the EA80C which is blackwood all over but this one has back and sides and you can tell.

The range is awesome, from well defined bottom end to the sharp highs, there's definition wherever your fingers are on the fretboard.

Definately a performers guitar.

No flaws except for a sticker smudge from the shop. The work experience kid decided to put a 'HOLD' sticker on it for me and the glue stuck to it a bit. Worked it off after a few weeks but it took the edge of my brand new baby.

Action was great but i'm finding that its slightly too high at the moment (12 months on). Tricky thing is that theres no truss rod to be seen - so no self-adjustment. Guess I'll have to take it into a Maton dealer to look at it.

The only case that fits is the standard maton electric case and I'm finding that the case clips and hinges are starting to oxidise and look a little ratty. Nothing wrong with the guitar itself though.

It's definately a 'live playing' guitar. I've knocked it a few times and it seems to be fine. THe finish is great, but because of the small size I've started to notice my scratchplate isn't catching all of my pick flicks and theres a few scratches appearing just under the plate.

I've never had any reason to be worried about any parts, and regularly use it for gigs as my only guitar.

Next weekend will be my first attempt at getting it looked at (for the action), but I bought it from Billy Hydes camperdown and they seem very helpful and fast to help me with any questions.

They were very helpful when I was looking, and gave me a great package deal (around $200 cheaper than the next cheapest), even when the guitars were understocked everywhere.

From memory the warranty is 12 months.

I'm so thankful that I went to see Diesel play live (at the Brass Monkey Cronulla) the day before I went to buy the EA80C. After hearing him use it live I decided instantly that I had to have THAT one. The 12 string is just as good but I've only played it in the store. I almost bought it (only $100 more at the time), but thought it might limit what I could do with it.

I'm a huge diesel fan, and now I also love him for his input (however little it was) in developing this beauty!

The portability is fantastic, and the sound is amazing. Small amp or large PA system its a rockn guitar!

It's a big jump up from the standard model mini maton (EML), so if you've tried the standard, make sure you try the EMD as well.

Mines a six string mini maton with the standard blond matte finish colour scheme. Its pretty damn tiny but I find it really comfortable to play especially in a sitting position. I played it instore alongside a few other larger Maton acoustics some Taylor guitars a Cole Clark & a couple of higher end Yamahas. I kept coming back to the great sound the nmini has, lots of mid range, bit banjoesque almost. Pretty loud too for such a small body. I've ended up using it straight di-ed into a protools Mbox and the clarity and bell like purity of the tone is beautiful. I tried micing it with a Rode condensor which sounded nice as well but the DI sits better in a mix. It uses the AP4 pickup the is the low end one from Maton, but I must say it sound pristine recorded. Doesn't sound as good through an amp though so maybe you get better perfomance at that if you go for the AP5 which is an option with this guitar.
Was made in Victoria, Australia in early 2006 sometime.

I'm mostly doing film and video soundtrack work which mixes acoustic instruments with electronic perscusion textures. The Mini gives an incredibly pure detailed sound very suited to folk styles. It deosn't have the resonance of a larger body guitar, but it doesn't sound as thin as you'd imagine looking at the tiny size of the body either. I tend to think it doesn't have a great variety of sounds, but it is a straight small body acoutic guitar and i wouldn't really expect it to do much in the way of variety.

Came straight from the factory without any setup I think and its been pretty flawless.

Seems like it would handle a live routine fine, though I've never left the studio with it. I'd have no worries about relying on it though, as I said above the build quality is excellent.

I've been playing guitar off & on for 20 years though I'm mostly a keyboard/computer based composer. These days I just use a protools rig with an evolution keyboard controller alongside the Mini & a Yamaha Mike Stern signature tele style electric through a Roland Cube amp.

Although the thing I really love most about the mini is its size and playing comfort, its also what I like least about it as it makes the upper frets hard to play (with a 7th fret capo for instance) and the smaller body does limit the amount of sounds it can produce.

In its category (tiny body decent sounding guitars with pickups) the mini doesn't have much competition, I probably just get another if I lost it somehow. Would consider getting the 12 string version though.
