I don't think these are made anymore but I thought it should be put on here as I discovered, in my search for info, that there is,as yet, no mention of Maxwin guitars on this site.
I was given this by my brother in the 70s. He bought it new as a cheap alternative to the Ovation guitars this was obviosly meant to emulate.
The label inside says Maxwin by Pearl of Japan. 100e serial 508583.
It is a 'Black back' but unlike the ovation it has a squarer profile so DOES sit on the knee without slipping off.
The top is laminate faced with Spruce I think. The neck is rosewood faced with 20 frets. Plastic bridge and nut though I made a bone nut for it when the original split.
The neck is a comfortable 'D' profile with a very simple, slightly tapering to the top head. The tuners are Schaller that I put on ,in the 7os because the originals were not too good as I recall.
There is a simple jack connection to an under bridge pick up some sort no eq and it must be passive cos there's nothing else.I think it worked once but it hasn't worked for years and I don't have any spec.

The sound is not huge or fantastically warm but this is a budget guitar with a laminate top. The sound tends towards bright but it holds it's own and is certainly not at all bad.
The action is excellent and I have used both light and heavy gauge strings at times good fo strumming, picking and lead.
I really wanted to put this in as it is an old friend that has stood me good stead over 30+ years and still going strong and I felt it should be recognised. It provided a good cheap alternative to a top class guitar when the market choice was a not anywhere near so broad and budget guitars, generally speaking , sucked.
So big repect to Maxwin and Pearl. I would stongly recommend this guitar as a workhorse deserving a place in the collection of any cash strapped muso, working due or collector.

All good stuff for the price. No major bugbears except perhaps the tuners but I replaced them and now all fine.

This is a brick s**t house and has withstood my ministrations for 30+ years. If the electrics where more sophosticated, and that can be arranged, It would be an excellent gigging gitar and yes I would trust it without a backup.

I've been a drummer for 40 years and always played guitar for fun but recently have taken it more seriously. Got myself a Parker Fly Deluxe, Gretsch Pro Jet, Epiphone Wildkat (heavily customised). Crafter 2B bubinga, Micheal Kelly Hummingbird 4 string fretless acoustic. Trace Elliot Velocete Twin (My baby, the best little amp only 3 knobs Volume, Tone and Reverb) Various effects that I never use. an a 2 year guitar course at British Academy of new Music.
If you come across one of these, buy it. If you don't want it give it to someone you like. You win either way.
