Maple body, spun resonator cone, built in pick up and eq.Comes with fitted hardcase (which is important). Nicely finished!

Sound : 9
I didn't want an all metal sound. Sure, they look pretty and may suit a solo artist but I am the vocalist and 2nd guitarist in a band, and wanted something a little less flash so I opted for a wooden one.
Its extremely well made, and the sound is...well pure resonator!
Other budget resonators I have had in the past always seemed a bit dull but this has a spun cone and does the business...another point, but important for me, is that plugged in it still has the 'resonator' sound. Other guitars I have had just sounded like normal electrics when amplified.
Also, as yet, no rattles or buzzes!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very nice set up which is good for both normal fingering and slide, and it came with a nice set of strings (reddish colour...Optima?).No flaws I could find.I understand these guitars are individually set up before despatch and I think it shows.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems well built, nice finish!

Has a 14 day return policy if you don't like it so really can't grumble, but this won't be going back!

Overall Rating : 10
I've tried 'cheap' wooden bodied resonators in the past eg Hohner, J Turser, Fender, Ozark etc and have always been disappointed.I was reluctant to get another cheapie, prefering to save up a bit and get something a bit better (after all I play in a blues band for a living, although slide guitar isn't my main instrument). I found this company by accident on the web though, and after watching the promo video, thought I'd give it a try. After all they do a 14 day return policy if you don't like it, so nothing to lose.
I was a bit suspicious about the price (ie under ??200 with a fitted case) but after a few hours playing I've come to the conclusion its a bit of a bargain.
It may be the current glut of cheap resonators that is keeping its price down, but a few years ago I would have been happy to pay 5 or six hundred GBP for an instrument like this. Its certainly a big step up from the other 'budget' makes.
As I said, a lot of people only play a guitar like this for three or four numbers in a set. If you're gonna play resonator professionally you'll probably want the 'real thing'(for kudos as much as anything...I know what you guitar players are like). However its well made, sounds good and if it were stolen, then I'd just buy another (and you can't just do that with a 1930's National!)
Yep, it does its job well, should cost a lot more and is a bargain buy...a much much better guitar than the others it is trying to compete with...so for value for money alone I'll give it full marks!

As I said, this one won't be going back!Bargain! Get one before they realise they could be pricing it higher:o)

I was looking for traditional "National-sounding" resonator for a reasonable price. When I hit and watch the Howlin??demo from Moondog web site I was interested in this guitar immediately. The sound is rich, clear and crisp resonator sound, not too "metallic" for my taste.Works great with fingerpicking.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
As informed by Moondog Tim, the Howlin is available with three kind of setup:standard guitar setup, compromise setup for "more-bottleneck-player" and pure slide setup.Mine has standard setup, and action & intonation are fairly good, no reason to complain.Finish is good guality, no flaws.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The guitar seem to be very solid and will withstand live playing.
About tuners, I wish there were Grovers instead.
One strap button on tail, seems very solid.
After one month playing, no reason to complain about hardware.
Good quality choice for home player, reliable enough for gigging too, thought.
The case is too flimsy for touring use, but it is OK to store your instrument at home. For this price I didn`t expect to got a flight case :-)

Howlin has lifetime warranty and 14 day trial to try it at your home before puchasing it.If you don??t like it, you can return it.

Pleased to deal with.

I??ve been playing 32 years, got a Gibson Les Paul Std -89 and a Fender American Std Strat 1991, couple of acoustics too.I play mainly blues and R&B.I have been awhile keen to try dobro playing and I was looking for a good "quality-price balance" for my first purchase. As there was a 14-day free trial, this was a good choice for trying someting new. With comparison for Johnson,Harley-Benton and Fender I came to this.It has good playability and I can recommend the Howlin` for you if you want a nice instrument for the price of the "second guitar".
