I'm the original owner of a '99 Custom Legend, with the Cadillac Green burst finish. It's a cut-away with all the abalone inlay and binding, pearl tuning heads, carved walnut bridge, and Optima preamp (gain, notch, 4 band eq, tuner). The top is AAA Spruce, ebony fingerboard, wood headstock. Being a Custom Legend, it has the deep-bowl, and includes a 1/4 output AND xlr output.

Unmatched sound when plugged in (in my opinion), and the deep-bowl gives it a great "body" when unplugged. The preamp is a gorilla, easily putting out enough beef for any live situation. No tonal dislikes here - it's very balanced and even, and the eq allows for much adjustment to personal tastes.

I customer ordered this from the Ovation factory in CT, via the local Guitar Center. I never had it set up or adjusted - everything was fine. There were no flaws to speak of - it was absolutely immaculate.

I play live a handful of times per month since owning it - and have never needed a backup. It has never once slipped out of tune or given problems. It came with Dunlop Straploks, which have also been perfectly dependable. It's amazing that an instrument can sound so great and be dependable at the same time.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. There isn't a rating high enough for the service provided by Ovation, specifically Kim Keller. I had some severe and unfortunate damage occur to my guitar's top, and thinking it was a goner, sent it to the factory. In about a month they replaced the top, matched the finish - which had been discontinued 4 years prior - gave me a new bowl even though I didn't need one, installed a new bridge, and reset all the frets. The guitar came back as good as new. The best part is the patience displayed by Kim while I was in panic-mode.
It's hard to imagine getting better customer service from any kind of company anywhere.

I've been playing for about 12 years, and also own a Telecaster (American made). One dependable electric and one dependable acoustic are all I need. If either were stolen, I would replace them both with similar models. The Ovation is just a beauty of an instrument in all manners of speaking. I expect to play it for decades to come.

Early 90s model, made in New Hartford Conn. USA, Solid spruce top, deep bowl and Ovation's trademark composite back. Piezo bridge pickups with a 9 volt powered onboard pre-amp and three channel graphic equalizer (this model pre-dates the current offering of an onboard chromatic tuner).

I've been playing for nigh on to 35 years now in all manner of situations on and off stage. I've played this particular model (I've owned over a dozen Ovations and currently have four) is the duck's guts for any application that requires an honest accoustic sound jacked up through amps (not perfect, but as good as it gets). I've put it through practice amps, mid-sized combos, big bass units, PA sytems and once through a Fender Twin Reverb (magic); it has never disappointed.

My early Ovations all came needing a little tweaking here and there to make them just so...maybe that was the dealer, I don't know. This one, however, has never needed anything done to it - it was great when I got it and remains so. The action is low and accurate, the electronics are flawless and the finish is, as with all Ovations, stunning.

Tough as nails - I've never broken an Ovation (not that I've ever tried).

I have had occasion to use Ovation's (Kaman) customer support to acquire parts for some vintage solid bodies I have that are mearly 20 years out of production - they usually come up with the goods.

I also own a couple of Vipers (not the new ones - the old solid bodies), a Preacher, a Breadwinner, a Squier, an Ecko and various other old pieces in various states of repair. I practice at home using a Fender Champion 110 and a Fostex VM04 digital mixer. I'm currently lusting for a Fender Twin Reverb.
If this guitar were stolen - I'd definitely replace it with a new one sporting the chromatic tuner.

ovations deep body cut away, optima preamp with eq and built in chromatic tuner. black gloss finish with abalone purfling and fret inlay. One of the most beautiful guitars i own (including a custom elite, taylor814ce)

played acoustically either through a roland acousitc chorus or fenderpassport. full rich tone. i play a lot of tunings(hwn)so the onboard chromatic tuner is wonderful, wish my taylor had it. i play this more than any other guitar i own because the action is incredible. action is lower than my big apple strat and quicker though string bends are a little more limited. occasionally plug in an old roland blues cube60 and on lead channel it plays easily enough to sub as an electric in a pinch. only way i think ovation could improve its plugged in sound would be to add a mic blender to the piezo, even that would be a big maybe

looks like this was made by my own personal luthier. set up was adjusted by removing a single bridge shim only . no buzz fretwork action and finish are cleaner than anything else i have seen. i live in the tropics and have been playing ovations for more than twenty years. very durable in humid climates. have owned this piece since nov(6mos).

would use without a backup if freshly strung. one great thing about this particular piece is even when strings need to be replaced it sounds pretty good both acoustically and plugged, this is not true of most of my guitars. for an acoustic guitar its bulletproof.
